So, I know nothing about instruments, but I do know weapons, so here goes. The technical term for the group of weapons that a halberd belongs to is polearm and halberds are one of the more prolific type of polearms. The halberd developed from the voulge - in fact, early halberds were called a Swiss voulge. As the name suggests, the halberd was first made famous in Switzerland, though its use spread all over Europe. It was most popular north of the Alps, but could be found everywhere, although in Britain, the bill was by far the most popular polearm. The halberd rose to prominence in the mid to late 15th century and was used well into the 16th century, but with firearms becoming more and more prevalent on the battlefield, it as eventually eclipsed by the pike. However, halberds were used all the way up the 18th century and still used for ceremonial purposes, most famously by the Swiss Guard of the Vatican. As for the specific one used by the Hauptmann, I will use the suggested new halberd typology suggested by Casper J. Van Dijk in a March 2020 article. Using that typology, this halberd has a either a Type sIIa or sIIb point and socket - it’s kinda hard to get a good look at the socket. This type of socket has a rectangular profile and often, the point is not located directly in line with the socket, as appears to be the case here. In addition, the point can consist of a spike with a diamond-shaped profile or can consist of a flat top spike with no thickening, like a spear. Here, it is the spike. The blade and hook profile and quite interesting and does not seem to match any specific subtype. The closest would be Type I.A, subtype I.A-1, but this normally has a slightly concave edge, where Hauptmann’s looks to be convex. All of this means that this type of halberd is from around the beginning of the 16th century. In fact, it look similar to a halberd depicted in a 1517 painting called “Hellebaardier in liefde onstoken voor een naakte vrouw” in the Dutch Rijksmuseum. Anyway, any other questions about weapons and armor in these videos, feel free to ask. :p

One of my favorite things about Feuerschwanz is the energy they show, even in their Videos. But especially Johanna. Whenever you see her playing, she looks she's having the fun of her life, like *this* is exactly where she wants to be. And honestly, that's something I aspire to do more - just live in the moment, enjoy some activity or music, without thinking about all the shit that's happening in the world.

Memento Mori is a very fun album. I think for those that do not speak german, it might be said there is a cover B-Side which is almost exculsively in English, with Warriors of the World cover, Twilight of the Thundergod, the Bad Touch all of which are outstindingly good metal covers. There most recent video is dragostea din tei, which came out a few days ago and is also funny as hell.

(Hu! Ha! For life and limb.) And on that we'll raise our horns. (Hu! Ha! Raise the horns.) Do you hear the horns there on the edge of the sky? Do you hear the horns and the war song? The armies are marching over dark lands. Ultima Ultima Nocte. The last night before the battle. Call all women and men to arms. (Hu! Ha! To arms.) Because from the north come the fire dragons. (Hu! Ha! Fire dragons.) Not too long is our time on earth. (Hu! Ha! Time on earth.) Because someday we all must die. (Hu! Ha! All must die.) Do you hear the horns there on the edge of the sky? Do you hear the horns and the war song? The armies are marching over dark lands. Ultima Ultima Nocte. Do you hear the horns there on the edge of the sky? Do you hear the horns and the war song? The armies are marching over dark lands. Ultima Ultima Nocte. The last night before the battle. Ultima Ultima Nocte. Do you hear the horns there on the edge of the sky? You can see the construction of the "Thunder Harp" in the making of video for Ultima Nocte. In it, they asked the fans what to call it, so this might be the name that was settled upon. Also, he plays it in the Warriors video as well. And regarding the emotionality of their songs - if you haven't, you should watch and listen to Auf Wiedersehen on the Auf's Leben album. Ben wrote it when his mother died and I played it at my wife's funeral. It hits so damn hard. Even if you don't do a reaction because it's an older song, well worth the time.

Great reaction, as always, man! This is quite possibly my favorite song of the album (and that's saying a lot given how awesome the rest of the album is). Musically, it definitely feels like a sequel to _Unter dem Drachenbanner,_ which was my favorite song on the previous album. Although this song doesn't hit on the same personal level with the lyrics as its predecessor (as something of a 'misfit' myself, _Under dem Drachenbanner's_ story of misfits/outcasts fighting side-by-side together resonated with me a lot), _Ultima Nocte_ is still an absolute banger, and gets me fired up for 'battle' (or really, just to do whatever I need to do) every time I hear it. Like you said, Feuerschwanz can evoke much stronger emotions than one might expect from a somewhat goofy folk-metal band. I'll never ceased to be amazed by this band's ability to make me feel energized, optimistic, and just _enthusiastic about being alive._

Typically I am more into the Japanese music than the largely European tunes on your channel, but I have to credit your channel for getting me into this band and subsequently Melissa Bonny through her collabs with this band and then Ad Infinitum. This one is one of my favorites from the album. But to be honest: most songs if not all of them are at least good. If not even better than good. I love "Am Galgen" since it goes a bit more in the fun/older stuff the band did. It just sounds super fun melody wise, and has fun text. I also adore "Herz eines Drachen" - so much emotion in that. Krampus and Ultima Nocte are just head bangers. The solo parts here I think are just perfect. You have Fiddle supported by the guitar - and I love that they give the fiddle some space to shine, but then switch to put the guitar more in the foreground while getting supported by the other instruments, going back into the chorus... its just... so great

Always love your reactions with Feuerschwanz. Have you seen their latest video for Dragostea Din Tei, it's great fun. I really want them to do the video for Bad Touch now but keep the monkey outfits that the Bloodhound Gang use. Seeing Hauptmann as a monkey with his armour on xD

My girlfriend's family in Germany make Seifert violin (and maybe cello?) bows, the shop is in Bubenreuth/Erglangen...the street is called Mozartstrabe. Every 2nd street seems to have a music store of some kind. Definitely a very musical area.

What ?? No comments on Johanna's violin ijn the first gear breakdown section? Make/Model? Is that Engelmann spruce on the top? Rock Maple, or European Red? Pickup style? (piezo, or is she using a room mic for recording??) j/k But, one thing I really noticed in this song : Johanna/Stephanie's violin seems to have a lot of live-mic (I mean a LOT) in the verses. Maybe it's more of a 'room mic', which really helps widen the tonality and almost adds a bit of Chorus (it has a bit of delay based on the SpeedOfSound and the distance of mic-to-violin.... iirc about 15 feet should give you the right delay length for classic Chorus). For me, it adds a bit of a feel of multiple instruments, like a mini violin-section. Since they are not time-modulating either the dry of the room-mic, it gives it that Abbey-Road bathroom-mic 30 msec delay-feel. Anyway.. this is such a fun song. And you are right... we need a similar musical scene in the US... there's a ready-made audience in the SCA... they'd break out swords-n-shield in the mosh pit, which would make a very cool video. ... a Roman phalanx for a Wall of Death... the possibilities are endless. Thanks for the video... damn cool stuff. Now, we gotta get Ben to play through a splattery fuzz on that low whistle of his...DjentWhistle !! OOOH, stage name is claimed : John DjentWhistle

Not sure if you saw, but Bloodywood dropped another music video this morning. If you thought it was impressive that they self produced the last one, wait until you see this one!
