Fun fact, Amy Lee didn't even want the other guy on her track, but the studio forced her to do it.

I read the story somewhere that originally, the label had asked Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park to do it, and then they went and found someone to sound exactly like him (Paul from 12 Stones). He sounded so much like Mike that people thought it was him when the track came out.

I absolutely love contrasting vocals, so I was actually kind of disappointed when this didn't continue with their other songs. Sucks to know they were forced to do it.

I mean, a multitude of the original stuff, that got released to the radio, whether it was pushed to be done by the label, or them themselves was nu metal..... I'd agree, the majority of their stuff wasn't though. Then, their look, and choice of instruments, while not exclusive to nu metal, didn't help, as they had the fashion and great style of a cliche by metal band.

I think you are perfect for this as you keep it respectful but would not shy away from speaking your mind. If Amy is up for it. AND. It would be a different flavor because as you said: Its just the music that gets under your skin. Most of the times you like the music of your guests. But hey its up to you. Depends what Era nu metal. Their early material I'd go out and say was great, and far better than most evanescence material, and honestly, their latest material, while I wouldn't say great, was a step back in the right direction. They get shit from me, some, because they're an exceptionally talented band who could really put some top level material out, but around the time the 2000s hit, they instead went the generic radio hit route. Don't blame them, and I'm sure they look at their bank accounts and don't care themselves, but I prefer bands that keep their musical integrity, and make it to the top that way. At the same time, if it was that, or fail, I'd do the same thing they did. 😂

Evanescence is actually a very strong group of musicians and great people. I don't know if you're aware of this, but in 2019 Evanescence came to Russia with a tour and the truck with all their equipment was stopped and held up at the border. Rather than cancel their first gig, they raided a local shop with rentable equipment, spent the entire day of the show RELEARNING THEIR SET in acoustic form (from seven-string electric guitars in drop A to a regular acoustic guitar, from a large custom drum kit to a cocktail kit), played the whole thing as an acoustic show and nailed it. I think that any song that is overplayed does make some folks feel the same regardless of who the artist is and that to some, classical, cinematic and I dare say "gothic" elements coupled with elements of nu-metal and occasional synthetic sounds and rap beats are just a little unusual. Amy is just a person who really, really loves many different dimensions of music and aims to juxtapose them in an organic way. That's what some love about them and what others had a harder time relating to as it was just that unusual. Anyway, not trying to convince you otherwise, just sharing. Love your channel! Thanks for helping keep all things metal relevant \\m// - Michael

Millennial here! I just went to see Static X last month with Sevendust. I have to say, the "new" Static X put some massive honor on Wayne's name/legacy. I love that the new singer is just operating under a mask & the pseudonym as "Xero" and wants no real credit for his performances even though people figured out his identity. He somehow manages to flawlessly imitate Wayne's vocal affectation, but in a totally respectful way that doesn't diminish or mock what a genius he was. Nobody can ever replace Wayne, but for someone like me, who got into Static soon after Wayne died and never thought I'd see them live, they did a hella good job in making their set one massive celebration of his life. Even their brand new songs fit seamlessly into their old sound, and you wouldn't even know it was a different singer upon first listen without pointing it out. If Linkin Park ever make a comeback, one can only hope they do it in such a great way like Static X has. also funny enough: I also just went to see Powerman 5000 at a local venue literally last week. They only managed to draw a crowd of maybe 200 people at a small club, but it was probably the most fun I've had at such a small venue in a longgg time. Spider One is definitely getting older lol but he's still got energy enough to interact a lot with the crowd and you can tell he loves his job. It's awesome these bands are still around, bc it's easy to forget just how amazingly they translate to a fun live experience.

I remember getting a cassette single and death trip when it came from the record shop, and I've been obsessed ever since. The one time I saw drowning pool was an "all ages" show when I was 17 in 02 at the house of blues chicago. Hosted by a small person who was smoking a joint and chugging jaeger (one of the sponsors) on stage. Great show also had ill Nino and coal chamber.

I subscribed when you said Blood Brothers was a better song than Broken Home and Last Resort! I 100% agree. I even named my paintball team that name… had to change it for safety reasons lol.

There was a radio show on Top Albania Radio every Tuesday from 22.00-23.00, kinda like a hit parade, where I remember 2nd place Nookie and 1st place Somebody, someone. Memories 🫠

I’ll be 33 in a few weeks and I remember singing Linkin Park’s Crawling in the car when I was like 11 and challenging myself to hold the long note on “so insecure”. LP got me through a rough childhood and I’ll always be super grateful to them for that. I cried when Chester Bennington died 😢

My Dad introduced me to Linkin Park actually right when they first came out. He heard them on the radio, went out and bought Hybrid Theory and listened to whole thing when he got home from work. He just wanted me to to feel a little better and spend some time with me. Buried the CD with him when he passed a couple years ago.

I really wish I would've been able to see Wayne live. But I did see Static X Live with Mushroomhead, Fear Factory, and Dope (sorry opener... I showed up late and couldn't share the love...) They were fucking killer and I would ABSOLUTELY see them live again. It was the first show I ever went pit.

If I remember correctly, and I'm 38 now, so I was around 14 at the time, Break Stuff was the break-out single here in Germany. I was an avid MTV and VIVA watcher (the latter being the biggest domestic music TV channel back then), and Break Stuff was the first time I noticed Limp Bizkit receiving significant airplay. Then, a few months later, Take a Look Around was everywhere.

Nu Metal is definitely my thing. Recently been to Download festival and Limp Biz smashed it. The crowd was insane, he done all his classics, was hilarious and even stopped the show briefly to get the medics to help an injured person.

Hey Tank, a quick opinion. Orgy should've also been on the list. They were and still are ahead of their time. Jay (singer) is the still keeping the band going. They were at SNW in Vegas last year debuting like 2 or 3 new songs. They brought attention to how awesome an 80s song can sound with 20 years of technological advancement in music/recording gear. Amir (former guitarist) always had awesome custom Jackson guitars and all his tones were based from Roland guitar synths and other Guitar-to-midi devices.

@TanktheTech What's your take on Orgy, if you have one? Also, have you ever used or considered trying out the guitar/bass synthesizers from Roland and Boss? I have a feeling it may become a rabbit hole for you of new music toys.
