Tanner's case is so easy to look at that anyone who pays any attention to racing would understand. Not everybody who gets in a ride is Kyle Larson. I don't know why everyone keeps expecting every new driver to win instantly. It is actually insane and is leading to self-fulfilling prophecy of driver rotations around the country. Tanner's been racing 410's for 2 years, and most of that racing is on the same tracks. Sure, he did Ohio Speedweek and the occasional midwest stuff, but most of it is out west on the same few tracks. Most of the non 1/2 mile tracks he's been just fine at, which was expected because of how the west coast tracks would compare. I have no idea how anyone would expect him to go Eldora, Williams Grove, and Port Royal, 3 places hes NEVER been to, and just start racking off wins or podiums or even top 5's. Not only are those 3 tracks some of the hardest to win or even do well at in the country, the competition at all 3 is some of the highest as well. You quickly saw that Chase Randall's Tusky 50 appearance was almost a fluke because the next 2 nights he was nowhere near that fast. He doesn't race on half miles, ever. Outside of knoxville a few times. By the end of the half mile trip he racked up a top 10 at Port of all places. People need to chill and really let drivers learn some dam tracks and get time with a new crew. As stated here, his numbers are actually pretty crazy taking everything into account.

Been following Tanner on KZbin for about five years I think. If you remember, Justin, he was one of the young shoes I recommended back when you asked in a show "If You Were A Team Owner, Who Would You Hire To Drive Your Car?" And that was before Bobby Allen hired him to finish out the season in Jacob's car. He's doing great. Give him time. Your comparison to Zeb Wise's record at approximately the same point in their careers is valid and telling. I hope Bobby keeps him in the 1T next season, but if he doesn't, Tanner will find another quality ride, I am certain.

I am a 76 year old Sprintcar fan for over 50 years and started watching Tanner quite awhile ago when he was racing his family owned car. I love seeing the young guys coming up and doing so well in the Sprints. It is my FIRM belief that dirt is for racing and pavement is for getting to the track. I saw one of my very first ever dirt races in 1953 when I was a whole 6 years old, been watching ever since.

I’ve seen Tanner race at a couple tracks in CA and at Skagit in WA, there’s a huge crowd of kids around his car after the races and he takes a pic and signs stuff for all of them. Super nice guy and seems really appreciative to have the following, I think that goes a long way too. His mom and whoever else runs his merch table is really nice too

Tanner is a very talented young man. Fans who have never driven a sprint car don't have a clue of how hard it is to go fast on a slick track. Tanner is very fast when there is some grip and he can still control the car and go forward on a slick track. Running with the Outlaws will only make him better and better.

Finally someone who pulls up the real stats! Some have put unrealistic expectations on Tanner. I think he's done a phenomenal job in the 1T. He's really only had a handful of 410 starts before getting into that ride. PA was tough on him, but it was for his whole team as well. No matter what happens for next year, he's going to be a lot better for everything he is learning.

Corey Day. First time out in WoO, he finishes 2nd. He's finished in the Top-5 in over half of his WoO starts, including one win. And he's 17. He's from my hometown, so I tend to favor him. But he's super aggressive and that generates hostility. If a spectator wants to boo him, fine! Not everyone has to like to him.

Sprint car racing is very lucky to have two young drivers the caliber of Tanner Holmes and Zeb Wise. Both are mature well past their years and both know what that pedal on the right is for. If I remember right when Zeb attained the Rudeen ride. The nay sayers we’re talking then too. I always thought/knew Zeb was a solid pick.

I figured if Tanner could keep it in the mains and not tear stuff up, it would be considered a successful partnership to finish out the year. Bobby gets eyes on his car, they sell some merch together, and Tanner gets a ton of valuable experience. I think he has been doing a pretty fine job so far given all the factors. Here in Oregon, there is another young guy that raced with Tanner in both limiteds and 360s, Tyler Thompson, who is also a great young guy that is good with fans and friendly. The Thompson operation is lower budget than the Holmes operation and he doesn't get to travel as much, but they were the two "young guns" in the area battling it out and had some exciting races. I'm happy for Tanner but would also like to see what Tyler could do with a big opportunity as well, but of course there aren't enough big opportunities like that to go around.
@brianeast9081 Жыл бұрын
I can truthfully say Tanner has himself an international fan base. I stumbled across his channel and took a liking to a kid who has his head screwed on. Its clear his parents do support him and his sister Carly to go racing but its also clear that they themselves put a lot of time and effort into working on their own racecars. JMO but I do think Tanner has done quite well in the 1T, learning a new car, a new team and new tracks against the best in the business and scoring top 5 and top 10 finishes is no mean feat. He's also not tearing heaps of equipment up on the regular either. Every success that'll come his way in the future is thoroughly deserved. Its just sad that people will hate on the bloke because he has the ability to promote himself and promote sprintcar racing to new audiences.

Justin, i'd be curious as to where Allen/Holmes combined points would put them in the WOO points standing for drivers. Maybe a quick update on that in your show. If any of the haters show up where Tanner races, from his Mom, she can't believe people are driving 200 miles to watch him race in the Midwest and East coast. I know because she told me at Knoxville. And this was before he joined the WOO. Tracks get more attendance when Tanner races. A number of those are kids, kid racers, etc. Just look at the lines for merch and to get a photo with Tanner after the race.

Thanks for putting Tanner’s record in context. His learning curve has to be nearly vertical with new tracks, a new (ish) car and crew, and a schedule that is easily triple what he’s used to. Kudos to Shark racng for giving him the opportunity to grow and for recognizing the amazing talent that Carly is as a full crew member instead of just a tire chaser. Racing is a harsh mistress so he needs some more A Main appearances. That 9th at Port will help

Good video. I have been in a few comment section arguments with dudes that just can’t seem to find anything good to say about this kid and I truly don’t get it. Of course if you do you’re a “ fanboy”; I don’t even know what the hell that means and don’t care honestly. What I do believe is this kid jumped into one of the top tiers of competition in his sport and earned a podium, fast times, several top ten finishes and has gone bar to bar ( sorry old motorcycle racer talking , wheel to wheel ?) with some of the very best without tearing up a bunch of his teams gear. He hasn’t done super bone head moves one might expect from a young dude proving himself and tear up bunch of other teams cars either. He gets a lot of criticism about being a KZbinr … mad because this kid has a huge fan base that follows him. That’s good for the health and future of the sport. Maybe other drivers can learn something here if you want to see outside money finding it’s way into the sport.

I am one of the older racers, and I have followed Tanner Holmes for many years now, so I truly believe he has earned the opportunity to be in the 1T WoO car. Because I can recall watching Bobby Allen racing at Tulsa Speedway with the WoO in the 80's so I have been around a while myself, and I am genuinely happy for Tanner. Not to mention if those people watched Tanner's KZbin videos, they would see that he is realistic about this opportunity. Which should lead to a full time ride with the WoO, due to the fact he has built up the social media following, and he can drive a race car, which there is no downside from my view point with what Tanner Holmes brings to the table!

In Tanner's defense, these tracks are new to Tanner! The more experience he has at each track, the better he'll be at, at those tracks in the future. Like, he's never seen Port Royal, or WilliamsGrove, or soon Charlotte, or other tracks. In fact, until this opportunity, he's never been to those states. 85-90% of people would struggle at new tracks, states, and regions. That's as a fans, driver, team, team owner, etc. Let's be real there! I've said this once on his channel about this topic, "without a start, how can you get better?"

Haters....really crawl back under your rock!!! A couple of things not mentioned: Most of the PA Posse has the talent to run every night with the outlaws, just not the checkbook. 58 cars in the pits, let's see anyone with 19 WoO starts get in a car and compete. It seems that the nights he struggled, the 1s car has also. Shark racing, although a good team is not one of the most well funded. The team, I heard, still has to sleep in the hauler on occasion . In 19 starts, Tanner has brought the car home in one piece every time so far. Bobby Allen ain't no fool, he saw the Attention that Tanner got and knew that would help his teams also.

I like Tanner and his positive outlook towards everything. He’s a talented young man with a very bright future ahead imo. I think shark racing will hold onto him for next season and let that team gel and see what they can do. That seems to be a logical thing to do being he has ran very well and being fans from his KZbin channel to buy merchandise already so he’s earning his keep or contributing anyways. If they do decide to let him go it will be a mistake because somebody will pick him up and invest and watch him grow.

I was at Port Royal this past weekend for all three nights. Fifty four cars for the Tuscarora 50 and forty nine for the Outlaw shows. That's a lot of competition to compete with. There are a lot of West Coast guys that could probably perform better in that car right now but the reasoning they went with Holmes makes sense and its not like the other Shark Racing car has been any good lately either

Kids got some tough luck on the chip draw in qualifying. Luck will come his way moving forward into the future I can feel it

If Tanner does stay with Shark Racing in 2024. I see the team getting off the Outlaw tour and running locally in Pennsylvania and mixing in some High Limit/All Star races. Ohio Speedweek, Eldora big $$$, Attica, and some Sharon.

The reason why Tanner gets more criticism than Zeb Wise is because Zeb doesn't have a fan base fainting in admiration when he finishes in the middle of the pack. That, and the fact that he earned a top WoO ride and for the life of me I can't recall him ever winning a single race. I've never seen more idolatry over a sprint car driver in my life, and I've been watching them for 40 years. It's not personal. Fans have their favorite drivers and those drivers they want to lose. That's part of the fun of being a racing spectator. But when it comes to Holmes, his fans act as if you've bullied their favorite nephew. And none of this is Tanner's fault. It's his fan base. They just rub me the wrong way, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

You can say whatever you want but…It’s Bobby Allen’s car!! He says who drives it or does not, whether it’s Tanner or your grandma…Not KZbin goobers who thinks so-n-so should be in it. So unless Tanner pisses off Scruffy or the sponsors aren’t happy he’s gonna be in it till the end.
