I’m still riding them on two bikes. I have the medium density and the harder version. They both are in good shape however the mediums are pretty soft with a lot of road resistance. I use them on my commuter. If you’re doing more serious riding definitely go with the harder tire.
@ohrodrigs79705 жыл бұрын
I have been riding Tannus on my roadbike for a couple of months. On the plus side, I love not worrrying about fllats and not having to carry a repair kit. But in my experience, I would say they are okay if you're riding alone and don't care too much about speed. But I caoudn't keep up in group rides and quickly got dropped. They just don't compare to traditional pneumatics. They aren't as responsive and don't accelerate nearly as fast and they tire you out. When I received my Tannus tires, the package literature even stated to expect a 4-5% decrease in speed compareed to traditional tires but not to worry, you will make up the time when you pass by riders fixing flats. Well, cycling etiquette dictates you stop and help fellow riders, so there's that. It comes down to what you expect from Tannus. Maybe after the sicence improves I will try another set. Also, perhaps I should've tried 700x25 soft instead of 23 medium as these tires run hard.. Just sharing my experience and that they didn't work for me. But they are okay for solo riding as long as you don't expect to do speed work. Again, my opinion. By the way, good video as getting flats sucks.
@jonesmachineco5 жыл бұрын
I’ve found similar results as you although I find the new slicks ride much more like a traditional tire and I won’t trade the security of no flats as I commute. New slicks are harder with less drag

What would be even better for tyre protection is clean Dutch cycleways everywhere in the world. Until then it's Marathon or Marathons Pluses for me. Cycling isn't gonna go main stream until we don't have to buy expensive tires and ride along-side 2-20t machines. Also needing to buy more expensive grippy tires to not slip and get run over by a bus, would make cycling more accessible no doubt.

@@结实反流 I had Tannus Armour inside my Marathon Plus. The Armour starts off at 15mm thick but it compresses over time. By the time I had done about 300 miles on them, that thickness became only 4mm. With Marathon Plus that gave me about 9mm of protection but, it wasn't enough and a 50 miles ride I had planned was cut short in less than 10 miles. I just had to replace a broken spoke & find the rim is worn. I had been using the solid tyres. The tyres work fine - but they do not have the shock absorbency of air filled tyres. Not criticising Tannus or the tyres in any way. I'm a heavy rider on rough roads (using 700x28) so maybe not the ideal rider type? Racers on smoother roads will love them. They roll fine & it was great not having to think about punctures. I'm on air again.

I’m a heavier rider, I haven’t had that issue but I’d definitely agree that they don’t absorb the same shock as an air tire.

Hi Derek - I weigh 115 kg so on the upper limit. My wheels are on the cheap side so the steel of the rim maybe isn't as good quality/tempered. Tyre came off with no damage & could easily be used again.... just in case it happens to one of your 'readers'. Happy riding.

How does the tannus fair in terms of rolling resistance?
@jonesmachineco4 жыл бұрын
I’d say 8-10% for me on normal, 3-5% on the hard version. Definitely noticeable.

These tires were a nightmare. Felt like riding through peanut butter. Purchased and installed the 700 x 28 size on my road bike. The warmer the temperature, the more sluggish the tires felt as the compound became softer. It actually felt like the tires were sticking to the pavement. Put a total of 30 miles on them and, because of a terrible return policy, basically cut them off and tossed them. $150 down the drain.

hi Derek, one question - can you compare the Tannus tire with reg. to the pressure on a normal tire? I normally ride with 8 bar. how hard are the tannus? Rgds Martin
@jonesmachineco4 жыл бұрын
I find on the regular tannus about 8-10% resistance. The hard 3-5% depend on weight and temperature. Rides harder It’s definitely noticeable.

How much do you weigh? What models have you tried? I noticed on their website they have different "pressures". I normally keep my tires at 100psi. Is it good to go with whatever you ride normally or is there a better pressure?

If you're an amateur racer or serious roadie that's involved in weekly group rides, these tires are a big NO-GO. Most of the people making positive reviews here are casual riders or commuters who are not concerned about staying on someone's wheel at 160+ bpm going 26+ mph.

I wouldn’t choose these for racing.

A different perspective: got tannuses a few weeks ago for my commuter bike - a heavy, bag equipped bicycle, weighing about 17-19kgs with the goods:) The tyre I got is 700cX40, weighs about 700g and, paired with the belt drive and internal hub, was supposed to be the ultimate trouble free add. Well, it isn't. It rides terribly. It is supposed to be 4-4,5 bar simulation but it feels as if the tyre was constantly flat. You can't go in a straight line, the bike wobbles all over. Feels dangerous actually. Especially while turning. Another thing - the rolling resistance. I'm seriously down on speed and the ride itself is just unpleasant. Before tannuses, the bike had shwalbe big apple which aren't exactly light (900g) but they rolled like a boss compared to tannuses. The tyreshave been installed correctly - the right way round, all the pins clicked, they sit firmly in the rim. Wouldn't recommend this solution. Didn't work for me at all.
@jonesmachineco4 жыл бұрын
How heavy are you did you go with the hard tire or the medium tire. I’m sorry you had that experience I’d be better with the hard tires definitely there’s some rolling resistance in the roads harder than an actual tube tire but for me it outweighs the penalty of thorns
@MartiniOCP4 жыл бұрын
i went medium. But it was supposed to be within the range of pressures I would use on my bike -4-4,5 bars. Seemed hard enough. The tyre was also rated to take 150kg of weight. Hitting 60-80km a day, work commutes, I absolutely can't use this product. At first I thought it would be good training to drag along with all this additional friction but after just a few days I got some serious knee pain. Never had I had such a sensation:) and I do occasionally cover 300km/day without any problems concerning my joints and such. Pitty, was hoping to free myself from the risk of handling a flat at -15 in the rain and at night:) Guess, not yet. Keeping my fingers crossed they'll nail it one day.

It is not a tubeless tire. Tubeless tires are air tires, where you use tubeless rims and put puncture glue and air in. Just like on cars.

Hola.
