I am inspired to sing in Sanskrit along with tanpura. I am a male, but have found that the key of A# (middle, 6.5 kattai, not the very low A#) is perfect for my voice. This is the range of the female tanpura. My question is this: do males ever play female tanpuras? Is it based solely on musical compatibility or is there more to it? Please let me know. It is very easy to play. You just have to pluck the strings one after the other in succession. Unfortunately, I don't know about music therapy, you will have to ask an expert in that field.

the bridge is made in a specific way to buzz like this and have lots of overtones - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jivari

@@maxinehardy9411 In Indian terminology, the overtones are known as Svayambhoo svara-s = self born notes. The electronic Tanpura-s cannot produce them.

These pumpkins are quite strong. They are also used for making boats. However, the Tanpura as such has to delicately handled.

You will have to first decide what you want to learn. For vocal music, get a ladies Tanpura.

You will need a male Tanpra for C pitch.

Tune the Tanpura. Listen carefully and try to hear Sa. Then sing Sa - hold as long as you can. Repeat a few times. Then sing other notes one-by-one. That can be followed by sargams and paltas.
