I like this Siloti version which takes out the excesses of the Busoni version, which can be rather exhausting to listen to.

A good transcription, too. (I prefer it to Busoni's.)

I totally agree. The other interpretations of this transcription sounds very mechanical. This one has character and beatiful pontuactions even when it's not in the sheet music.

Beautiful arrangement that has a complete life of its own separate from its origin story. Absolutely fantastic performance! (Love the super clear voicing of your between-the-hands octaves.)

I love this interpretation, no cheap showiness or pointless virtuosity. But solidity and control, you make everything hang together well. I especially like the phrasing at 13:10 which everyone else rushes through...

Incredible and immersive performance. I admit that I am only familiar with the many recordings of this work on guitar and violin (usually gravitating towards the former). Yet hearing this version on the piano is like reading a favourite poem skilfully translated into a new language - the place is the same, but the colours and the passage of time are different. Thank you for sharing this with us all.

It's a excellent performance. I'm just confused isn't this the Busoni transcription ?
@phred235 жыл бұрын
No, but it's an easy mistake to make. Aleksandr Siloti wrote an arrangement of the Bach/Busoni Chaconne, reworking and typically simplifying passages to require merely exceptional technique instead of the superhuman virtuosities Busoni assumed of his players. (the other big difference is in the ending, where I believe Siloti hews closer to Bach's score and only plays the D in octaves, where Busoni fleshes it out into a D-major chord.
@ASiloti5 жыл бұрын
This is the Siloti version which is based on the Busoni transcription. It should be labeled "Bach-Busoni-Siloti"
@danlds1711 ай бұрын
@@phred23 Not everyone plays the final chord as a D major, or as just octaves as Siloti does. Checkout Maria Tipo's performance of this (final chord in D minor, I think it's optional). (Although Maria is playing the Busoni version.) But to your question, Siloti (a student of Listz) came along after Busoni and modified his version again. In most people's opinion, it is slightly simpler to play.

monster piece.
@enriquesanchez20014 жыл бұрын
I SINCERELY believe that of all the piano versions of the Chaconne, SILOTI'S is the purest and most faithful to the original. It is a shame that Busoni's is played more because this version does not have all the virtuoso and I believe unnecessary embellishments that Busoni's version brings forth that detracts from the spirit of the original.
@j.waardenburg81782 жыл бұрын
I agree! I love both versions very much and I adore the original (for violin). One of the things that amazes me about the violin piece is the unique amount of musical debt that's found in this solo violin piece. Siloti's arrangement offers more than enough opportunities for a musician to express this debt on a piano. A great addition --> I actually have a chance of being able to play this version one day!
