As nations go, Tanzania is in its infancy. It was born in April 1964 of a union of Tanganyika, a former British colony, and Zanzibar, tiny islands off the East Coast of Africa which were formerly Arab dominated. This program explores many of the problems facing this struggling nation - poverty, sickness, education, and lack of trained manpower. Beyond this, the program focuses on Tanzania's policy of non-alignment in the Cold War and its willing acceptance of foreign aid from both Free World and Communist Bloc countries.

I think that this was pretty common in many newly independent nations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Similar things happened in Cuba, Mozambique, and other places. From a revolutionary standpoint it didn't matter so much if the teachers were white as long as the the curriculum was African

Nyerere was the best president ever in AFRICA AND THE WORLD IN GENERAL... because till today Tanzanians has never had issues in , keeping peace with one another that's all its needed in this world PEACE amongst.. economy can grow slowly we dont care about that , Tanzanians we are so humble and loving because of mwalimu Nyerere, Tanzanians can live outside their own countries and be loved any place they set their foot because we are so humble and friendly at heart..thank you so much Mwalimu Nyerere i appreciate what you have done for my country you are well respected. Socialism makes people humble, communist countries people becomes very aggressive, yiu have a good example of qhats happening in KENYA , kenya is very divided in terms of Tribalism and Religious issues, The economy of kenya is doing so well but there's no live between Kenyans, every kenyan i met they have to ask each other what is your tribe? Unlike us Tanzanians. I live and enjoy the peace we have maintained in Tanzania and now the economy is growing.

This video provides details on events that are not necessarily well informed. Thank you for your time, work and share 👍 Can I put it in a link in a voluntary work on the history of the revolutions in France and in the world since 1789? Cordialement

Hi, I'm Polish, spent first 14 years of my life in communist country and there's one thing I can say for sure: it doesn't work. It's no coinsidence there's so few comunist countries left on this planet. Most of them went bankrupt, including Nyeyere's utopia.

I think it will not work in poland.it is too good for you. It will work for Tanzania. We have to build a structure that will give our workers to break the chains of dominance by the bosses.we have nothing else to lose.

@@joedias7946 the entire notion of "breaking the chains of dominance" is a fallacy, it doesn't work like that, Marxism is pure nonsense, it failed everywhere it's been tried. It's been tried in countless different contexts in a myriad of ways and it always failed in a very similar way with tyranny and poverty. Just look at India, China, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Malaysia..., the moment they stopped with socialist policies their prosperity started to go up rapidly, state ownership of companies doesn't work, central planning doesn't work, what works is economic freedom, for that's all "capitalism" is, economic freedom.

Nyerere was a good leader but unfortunately the choice of socialism set the country back tremendously. The government can never be efficient at creating wealth and socialism has been proven to be a failure everywhere in the world. Nyerere realized that much later but it had set the country back by about 50 years. The revolution in Zanzibar was a total failure. Karu,me was neither an intellectual nor had the foresight to lead the island to prosperity. Him and his cronies simply wanted to enjoy the fruits of their positions and this resulted in the draining of wealth, entrepreneurship and the educated class. They chopped down the clove plantations (which brought very good foreign revenue) and planted rice (because the Chinese told them so). Today, Zanzibar is a basket case of an island with people hankering after the tourist dollar. Think about it, Singapore was much poorer than Zanzibar in 1964. Today, you cannot even think of comparing the two. It is a great shame and a travesty to the people of Zanzibar and Tanzania.

Nyerere had to do something for Tanzania, especially when he had all these vultures looking at this beautiful country (and still are). He did his best and now its our turn to do the rest. Yes we may be 50 years back and poor but i believe that we are morally rich because of socialism. Its absurd to compare Tanzania to Singapore or any other country in this planet earth. We are where we were supposed to be and we will take our time to improve our basic needs. I repeat "basic needs" cause this is what we need and not luxurious life that defines your countries. I am a proud Tanzanian and i see a bright future for my country. ✌️

You have to understand that some dictators are not bad and not all democractic leaders are good. Some times dictatorship is best, especially that of nyerere. If you look around and you see that other potential leaders are not just good for the country, when u come to this conclusion by examining they policy, intellect, principles and ideals of these potential leaders. You have no other option than to keep power because this is best for the nation at large. As incompetent men can easily undone all the good work you have laboured to achieve.

@@minyarothomas8167 What happened to Bibi Titi and Oscar Kambona? Why don't you elaborate? The best comparison should be drawn between Nyerere and Mobutu. What I mean is that there should be no comparison at all between the two for the differences were like day and night! Nyerere was the exact opposite of Mobutu Sese Seko in DR Congo in almost all aspects of his governance. Both neighboring countries (Tanzania and Mobutu's DR Congo) were single party dictatorships and their similarities ended there. Mobutu was a capitalist but he was no saint either. Mobutu invited western "democracies" to plunder Congo's vast resources allowing for pressure leading to instability in his country. Mobutu ruthlessly butchered his proven or perceived opponents. This is the man who participated in the lynching of his Congolese brother, Prime Minister Patrice Emery Lumumba! Mobutu was allies with the apartheid regime in South Africa; an institutionalized white minority, white supremacist, multiparty "capitalist" state!
