We have 2 of the 250cc I changed the front sprocket and it made all the difference they top out at about 55mph we have had them for 4 years and absolutely no problems and the one I ride gets run hard and have yet to blow it up. Best upgrades 2 inch spacers on rear wheels, pz30 carburetor, and smaller sprocket in the front. When they are shipped, they are restricted for emissions they have a lot more power than I thought they would after the carb and sprocket alot more low end.

Where do I get these 2 inch spacers ?

Amazon has them or just Google them

What size sprocket did you go to on the front? I think mine has a 13t. Im aiming for more low end over top speed

Sometimes they are geared too high but a quick sprocket change will help with that.

Yeah, the carburetor wasn't right and it was having a lot of issues! Since then he's changed out the carb, plug, wires, ignition and the gears so NOW it has a lot more power. You still have to keep messing with it to keep it running. Rear slips a lot even with lots of Loctite on there so the chain gets loose - it's not a buy and ride toy, you definitely need to work on it especially if you plan to ride anywhere but a yard or road...

@tfox12626 жыл бұрын
He ended up chaning alot of things to keep it moving on the trails - gears, flipped the rear rims out and reset the tires for a wider arse end, most wiring and ignition switch - especially the 2 bolts that hold the rear axle straight! Hard riding and they move on you = loose chain.
@SurviventheOnslaught6 жыл бұрын
the dumbest thing about a tao tao is the narrow width of the rear end, needs 2 inch spacers on each side, its dangerous the way it is
@tfox12626 жыл бұрын
Funny you say that!! He ended up flipping the rims and reset the tires on them which gave it a little more width in the rear, that thing was scary easy to roll otherwise!

I put a clone PZ30 carb on mine and an 11 tooth front sprocket. I weigh 250 and it did fine on the mild hills in 1st and 2nd. Now it pops the front end up on a hard start!

so what does your brother in law think of the machine after having it for a while. and i understand it is a 200cc quad im not excepting Yamaha grizzle quad for $1300 I can buy myself a newer honda or my daughter, wife, and i could all get a TaoTao for the price. I live in Wi so the terrain is not that crazy.
@tfox12627 жыл бұрын
It's alright if you know you will need to mess with it some. He has a couple hundred miles on it now and had to constantly play with the rear to keep the chain tight, it kept moving on him. The clutch can be pretty hard and it's not geared for power so its slow to start and can be a struggle on big slopes but over all it's not bad for the money! For running around small trails and yards it would be fun and most likely work fine! He did have to replace the carburetor since it was running bad from the start but runs good now. And parts are cheap which is another good thing! Looking back he says he should have bought on old honda 200 or something for around 1500-2000 but is sticking with his Tao for now!
