There is a big difference between head knowledge and heart knowledge my friend best advice I can add is have an experience then comment (Baba Muktanandas words of wisdom) to pass judgment on others is not a non dualistic approach. It appears you and your co host lacks experience with that what you have learned from your meticulous study and debates of the scriptures. My cousin who as a Catholic priest does the same thing he will beat you over the head with the Bible or his interpretation. He doesn't get it and my personal belief is most of what you offer is head knowledge with little experience. Put it to use and have an experience, that's wisdom my friend not parrot talk.

It seems like the de facto cultural programing is fear. If not fear now, be fearful of the future. As an older person raised in the fear culture I've finally learned to recognize the narrative and stand aside and let it pass.

"Men are like pillow-cases. The colour of one may be red, that of another blue, and that of the third black; but all contain the same cotton within. So it is with man; one is beautiful, another is ugly, a third holy , and a fourth wicked; but the Divine Being dwells in them all." -Sri Ramakrishna When we recognize the Tao or Brahman as appearing as other people or things, who is there to hate? In reality there are no others. When we recognize the Tao or Brahman behind the appearance, only love for the Divine, which is the truest love, prevails. Thanks for another great podcast. Be blessed.

A memory I have from my student days of evaporating or vaporising has stayed with me and at the time, it was overwhelming but over time I have come to see that it has taken me to ultimate calm in that I have no axes to grind, am comfortable within my own skin and at base line, you've already been saved. Primordial fear is overcome for good. Then you see the truest merits of Taoism as you've tapped into such wisdom. Stay on the right path :)

Gaiyoung (I apologize if that's misspelled, I don't know how to spell her name) was spot on accurate with her comments. Being peaceful in America (the country I know) is VERY difficult!! And she is again accurate that all the evil, or folly, arises from the ego and greedy, egocentric pursuits. The corporate captured government of this country is waging economic warfare against the poor and workers, especially blue collar workers. That keeps people desperate, and when people are desperate, they're much easier to corrupt and propagandize to kick down at each other instead of punching UP at those in power. It's what makes young men and women join the military just so they can afford an education. Then, the establishment powers sends these young men and women to war, not to fight, and often die, not for rights, or in defense, but to help extract resources from other countries. And the main victims are always the citizens of those countries. The entire concept of OWNING huge swaths of the Earth is so misguided.. The original natives lived in harmony with nature, and we killed them, took the land, and paved over it. But that just wasn't enough. There is hardly a country on this planet that our military hasn't pillaged, and all for profit and power, egocentric pursuits. So sad. Every day I wake up and check my mail, there is some new and ever higher bill for me to struggle to pay. It makes staying peaceful, centered, grounded and grateful SO difficult. As always, thanks to both of you for sharing this wisdom with us. It's needed so badly.
@usarmyveteran177

It’s not difficult for anyone to stay grateful, peaceful, grounded, etc. in America or ANYWHERE on the planet. Peace is acquired within yourself, which is readily available anytime. “The whole secret of life, everything that you can possibly desire, is yours at this moment, and if you cannot lay hold on it now, you'll never be able to.” ~ Alan Watts There is no peace “out there”somewhere where you can obtain it. You already have it. You may be distinguishing yourself from the rest of the world, when you’re one with it. There is no “this or that”. It’s just an illusion that you are separate. If you’re looking to find peace or achieve peace, then it’s your ego looking for it. Wanting peace is an ego game. The only thing that desires ANYTHING is your ego. The Atman, the true fundamental self, is whole and has no desires. You are being affected and suffer from everything that you have no control over when you should give up control, trust nature, and be at peace with yourself. You see much suffering in the world, which there is, but that suffering doesn’t exist unless there is a sufferer to receive it. So suffering is optional. Buy it, sell it, rent it out to someone, or not. Original natives did not live in harmony with one another nor with the natural environment. They were extremely brutal towards one another in ways which we wouldn’t even be able to comprehend. They enslaved other tribes, fought wars, raped, pillaged and plundered other tribes, were highly territorial and violent towards other natives. I can go on. We’re not alone in violence, greed, envy, etc. as westerners. The image or perception of the “noble” people that existed before we showed up is a joke and a big lie. They also burned mass amounts of land to capture game and killed more than they needed at times. Aborigines are not exempted from the human condition. “There is much evil in the world. You cannot conquer the evil in the world, but you can resist the evil in yourself.” ~Confucius

Peace starts in our own back yards...inquire within and do not try to control, it's a fool's errand. Those that insist on the last word are, in a way, sadistic. Jason stated: "Language is a tool of convenience", just as musician Todd Rundgren sang in 1973: "Words become a tool, anyone can use them, take the golden rule as the best example". 💗☯💗

Very insightful discussion, thank you both. It reminds me in a way of the poem "If" by Rudyard Kipling .. "If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream-and not make dreams your master; If you can think-and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools: If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’ If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings-nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And-which is more-you’ll be a Man, my son." (or .. you'll be full of honourable nations, my-ob world). 🗣️🎮👥🌐💣☠️😔🏆🚮🤔💞🙌🌏🕊️ Giving and receiving above taking and keeping. ✌️

I'm really interested what you guys think about conflict in a more individual sense. Like a mad neighbor that destroys your car tires, drunken guy trying to fight you in a bar, or someone that sells you stuff that is broken and gets agressive when you try to bring it back. These are all situations I have been in and I found it pretty hard not to get upset or react. Thanks for all this profound wisdom!

I live in India. It's a very chaotic place. And here, the social hierarchy from the economic and the social point of views, is very strong. How do I deal - I earn more than enough to live decently - I do what is necesaary to sustain that - everything else - fabricated social seetings - is unecessary. If the drunken guy at the bar said that he is god, I will agree and go away from there. If the stuff you are sold is broken and is not taken back- move on and decide to buy things from reliable people!! Just avoid getting into arguments that would never alter the perception of other person - it is not worth our precious time and more impprtantly - thr peace of mind!!🙂🙂

Democrats Decide What they Believe by “Social Status” Not What is True. To Get these People to Change, There Must Be a Social Cost, to Make that Happen You Have to Say: DEMOCRAT. Love Your Videos Bro! I’ve Been Following the Tao and Meditating for Seven Years… to Make a Piece of ART to Fight Them. Like Jack Kerouac, Like the Beats, Like What Nirvana Did to Rock and Roll. Nature is a Patient and Repeating, Art-Making Machine. To Defeat Your Enemy WITHOUT FORCE… This is TRUE VICTORY. I Even Had a Vision of My Goal Completed and a Voice Said: “Inevitable. Follow Each Instinct in Each Moment.” I’m Just Waiting for The Instinct. I Am Taoism in perfection.

Sometimes easier said then done especially on the side lines. Try practicing this in prison or in the badlands of inner city (like phila. where I live). What about the Bhagavd Gita where Lord Krishna tells Arjuna about his duty to fight.
@JasonGregoryAuthor
@JasonGregoryAuthor 2 жыл бұрын
Tough circumstances are the best time to practice my friend. Hence, Krishna's advice to Arjuna about engaging in war without being a sense of self, which is the crux of nishkama karma (not being attaching to the fruits of one's actions). I think maybe you didn't consider that when you mentioned the Gita. Krishna is not advocating fighting, but just that Arjuna need to practice nishkama karma to downregulate his ego. Also, as a sidenote, not everywhere is America and the world doesn't have to always submit to how America is. Just because some places in America are a certain way doesn't cancel the great traditions of the East. I always find that mentality odd and self-centered. Maybe you forgot that these sorts of philosophies arose out of poor places, such as India. And trust me, India is a lot poorer than anywhere in the US, but the difference is Indians live with a smile on their face because they were brought up with the essence of the Dharma. That is one of many reasons I choose to live here, even though many people around the world have an incorrect negative stigma of India. Just remember in the future and when you think America's concerns are the worlds concerns, they truly are only America's concerns and the truth is other countries have problems as well but for some reason the rest of the world should only focus on American problems. That is not the reality. I hope that makes sense.

I appreciate what you said about the nature of the world being inherently peaceful. I agree with you but I often wonder about animals that kill for fun. Take leopards for example. Is there a deeper reason for their behavior that causes them to kill more than they can eat? Maybe they have big egos 😉. Or perhaps they are a reminder as to the destruction this kind of behavior can cause. I don’t know and I’m curious to hear what other people think about it.

😊🤔as a practioner , one realizes this is wrong , a misinterpretation of Tao. NOW then , Tao is a whole of many different perspectives that cannot be experienced by man . Thus the ancients knowing this , gave instructions to followers to obtain what can be realized . This WAY is a twofold path , that of the Sage or that of the Hero . Each different side being that of the same .
