The stator/magneto (the alternator) on most recreational vehicles produces A/C current ( Not D/C like the battery holds). Often headlight brightness fluxuates with the engine rpm, that because the power is coming from the engine, not the battery.... In order to get D/C, the A/C output wave is Split into D/C via the Rectifier...It takes 2 times as much A/C voltage Split to get the D/C voltage. (So if you need 12volts D/C..The A/C output has to be 24volts or more to rectify (split) into the 12volts D/C wanted ) ...DO NOT put bigger blubs in a lower rated circuit. You can fry the wires, switches, plastic housing, + or the enamel covered stator coil windings by pulling too much current.

So if I out a 55w bulb into a 35w I’m gonna mess it up?

Yes, there are some necessary upgrades to improve reliability. Helix brand fuel lines and vacuum lines, NGK spark plug, upgraded coil, tire valve stems, fuel filter. Also recommended but can wait: CDI box upgrade, Gates CVT belt or better, Motobatt battery. Properly lube all cables with quality lubricant. Inspecting all fasteners is mandatory and will save your life. Some factory installed bolts arrive loose. Hope this helps. If you do all this it is relatively trouble free.

Hey, no problem. Engine must be on before headlights will come on. But, with engine off and key in the on position, running lights will come on in the tail light and there are two running lights in the headlight assembly that will light up.

Thing is, them replacement lamps will go the same way, You must have too much power going to them in the first place. This tends to be the regulator, as it says, it regulates the amount of power so this type of thing doesn't happen. You have a stator, like an alternator on a car and a dynamo on a bicycle. This provides a charge to the battery to keep it fully charged. But in between this charge you have a regulator, that's the metal thing with the fins on, as you saw behind your light assembly. This is needed to stop the charge from the alternator exceeding something like 14.6v on a scooter. If you'd have tested the battery posts whilst attached to the bike with a multimeter and the engine at around 3000revs, you may have seen something like 15v or over, which will blow the lamps. Simple swap out of like for like regulator may have been your best bet.

mine is sym gy6 scooter headlights low beam blew out... my mechanic recommends changing the rectifier to solve the issue of blown low beam headlights occuring within 5 minutes of changing a new bulb... the battery however is getting charged well and so i assumed that rectifier is working well ... then... .I have difficulty in seeing how the rectifier has any connection to the headlights because the headlights are powered by the stator coil . In the rectifier there are 4 wires = two comes from the stator. 3rd goes to battery 4th goes to ground and not the head light .. there seems to be no connection between the rectifier and the head lights... .

So would the stator not working at all cause the front lights not to work when switching from bright over to dim
@salsan88966 жыл бұрын
activity10cc mi scooter is same at yours but the beam lights are very weak in the night, I see other videos they conect the lights direct on the black wire from the key switch, does no´t affect on the charger sistem? and to find the right bulb is hard to find.

My headlight went out, so I went to the store to buy replacement bulbs. Installed new bulbs & the headlights won't turn on. Before I replaced them, I knew the right side headlight worked when I turned on the high beams. But now neither headlight works on dim or brights.

thanks for posting this video. it helped somewhat. no head light is working, the bulbs look ok, so i ordered a new switch. do you know if the head lights are directly operated by the switch or maybe a relay is involved?

this is the sighn of 2 things eather the stator is going or the voltage regulator needs replaceing both are cheap parts on ebay . if its the stator over charging or but the battery is still charging and only bulbs are blowing or everything is fine yet bulbs keep blowing witch will happen to some bikes do to just cheap china crap then you can replace the bulbs on everything with the led equivalent leds can hold up better and can take a higher voltage sometimes caused buy bikes that over charge when at full rpms.

@bencline191510 жыл бұрын
I had some 158 bulbs laying around. Not sure if they're 168 or 194. You can use any, but wattage will differ. You can also get LED lights. That will decrease the power draw.

PIAA plasma ion GT-X 35w HS! "HS"one" might be a suitable bulb for this high vibration low wattage output cycle. These PIAA GT-X plasma ion Look like "halogen" but are brighter per watt than halogen. GT-X is the label PIAA puts on their vibration resistant motorcycle grade bulbs.

Glad I could help. I got some info a while back from gurus on a couple of forums scootdawg (dot) net and itistheride (dot) boards (dot) net. Other sources of your problem could be: faulty voltage regulator, regulator connection loose, regulator is not grounded properly, headlight wiring, headlight connectors loose or faulty (try spraying with corrosionX), switch on the handlebar is faulty or dirty. Don't know if there's a relay. Hope this helps.

one last question....if you have the patience and the time. does the scooter have to be running for the head light to come on...or just the ignition in the on potion?
@quilla3336 жыл бұрын
has to be running
@noneshere6 жыл бұрын
Yes, its got to be running...the headlights Do Not get D/C power from the battery...The Headlights Get A/C current made directly from the engine as it spins. (Thats why headlights often fluxuate with the engine rpms). The bikes stator (alternator) Produces A/C voltage output...only After the Rectifier dose the scoot recive D/C voltage sent to the battery....it takes Atleast 2 times as much A/C voltage to make (split/rectify) the D/C voltage wanted.

it's the rectifier regulator that it must be changed cause mine it does the same and it makes the battery bad meaning that the battery will not hold a charge

Uhmm...its also possible: Bad grounds, are weak links. Negitive polarity hunts for positive. Weak grounds pull more current to bridge their gaps. Check all connections + circuit integrities with the multi meters ohms setting.

The engine produces A/C voltage of @ 24-50 volts...once the A/C voltage reaches ther rectifier the A/C wave is Split into D/C polarity, then it goes on into the Battery....So, Before the Rectifier= A/C voltage...After the Rectifier= D/C voltage....you need Atleast 2 times the A/Cvoltage in order to get the D/C voltage you want

I had this issue with my TaoTao Evo 150cc. The problem was the high/low beam headlight switch. It was broken. I couldn't find a direct replacement for the switch so I just wired the low beam.

One of a Kind! Will you post a link to the LED's you buy, if they work well? I'd like LED's too, but not sure what to buy.
@j.me.03117 жыл бұрын
One of a Kind! Thanks for the info! I think I'm going to redo the plastics on the front. When I bought the TaoTao, it had some minor plastics damage from being dropped. Recently, the entire front end plastics fell about 4-6 inches lower, so it catches on the fender if I turn into a driveway. I've always wanted to learn to make fiberglass parts so this is good opportunity to learn. It's my daily commuter for school so I need to be in perfect running condition. Friday I finish with this semester so I'll start then. I'll probably install an LED light for a headlight. It's going to be bright, that's for sure!

Thanks for taking the time to post these videos. I am curious as to what you would do to a new scooter (Tao Tao Evo) before riding, if anything. I haven't bought mine yet but it will be my only transportation for a few months. I don't want to stuck on the side of the road somewhere. I have read about replacing all the lines and such. What would you recommend?

A/C to D/C voltage rectifier may not be regulating proper output....or the grounds may be weak connection. Weak grounds require more current to bridge the connection.
