I use J37 in every mix and love it but have to try Taip. Those are the two I liked the most.

I use J37 as well . I use the Abbey Road default. I just use to let audio pass thru. I also use it in buss .

I couldn't hear any difference at all! Are you sure the plugins were activated?

I use TAIP because that’s what I own. Softube sounds like it’s the best for sounding like it’s been run through analog gear and just getting that little bit of colour, and you get 3 flavours even at minimal setting. TAIP is nice but it’s very easy to overdo it. The glue and wear are nice functions that make it useable on single tracks, but it takes a bit of playing to make it subtle enough for the master bus.

I think you need to hit the plugins with a hotter signal for us to really start hearing the differences, otherwise the only one where there was any real difference was mcDSP which made things sound worse.

Softube adds a little of 3d feeling, the others sound more 2D IMO.

@bookymydoor 🤣🤣🤣 I was wondering the same exact thing when I read his comment.

@bookymydoor means it creates "depth" on your track, basically in modern mixing works depth is preferred, and considered as an nice result of analog audio hardware chains. this is also an important factor when reviewing audio plugins in the past a few years. Nowadays engineers don't only mixing music 2D image way like the stereo speakers only creating audio image from left to right, but want to extend a dimension "depth" to create a 3D feeling. and that is not just about push audio backwards to create a distance, it's pretty hard to tell but thats what he means about 3D and 2D.

@@ordinarymonster1187 I own the Softube, but the Kiive Audio Tape Face become my favorite it offer even more wide stéréo image and more control like up to 16x oversampling, auto gain. A low boost. It can be subtle to really dirty. If you want to keep the hum/noise, you can adjust the amoumt.

@@jno8039 I'm a huge fan of tape saturation, own basically all mainstream tape emulation plugins. Honestly speaking oversampling and auto-gain functions are not something draws my attention (I use reaper it has all these functions embed in DAW) so I focus on other features that tape emulation plugins offer. Kiive's saturation is good but doesn't bring the tape vibe that I really want, i only use it as a saturation since the stereo image sometimes is not that accurate to my ears on my speaker system but it's the common flaw of digital plugins anyway. if you like the functions you described I strongly recommend U-he's Satin, so versatile, covering every aspects that a reel to reel tape machine can do even the encoder and decoder (and tape delay), Dan Worrall's video describe this plugin very detailed. If you want something "put on then sounds good" try UAD's or Acustica Audio's Taupe.

@@ordinarymonster1187 There is no miracle. The problem with an overall oversampling. The plugin must support the sample target you are lookging for. So iI rather to have the option on the plugin. The best it's like Pulsar Audio, a separate oversampling for realtime and for offline render. UAD too close to the Softube. I also have the T-RackS Tapes, Audiothing Wires based on a military soviet tape for extreme effect. Pretty funny. With these 3 tapes I'm cover my needs.

I use softube on individual tracks because it's nice and subtle. I like to use Kramer for vintage sound (also with the delay function) and I recently got taip and find it great on the master track. It has a real analogue sound and it's more 3D sound (I think, the others are more flat). But Taip has too much high frequencies, that's the only problem. I always pull down the "presence" and the "high-shape"

On individually calibrated Sonar Works Sennheiser HD 650, I could hear very little difference between the samples. In order the hear the differences you may need to drive them a LOT harder to emphasize the differences. Like many demos here on KZbin it is probably not translating due to conversion errors. Back in the tape days I had clients that preferred the 350nw/m elevated standard and pushed hard at that. [former P Funk members] That great tape sound was also from hitting tape hard at 30 ips that tended to reduce the lows for better highs.

I felt the same and also felt that the Baby Audio one was a few dBs louder (tried 2 set of speakers and a few headphones). But, yeah, KZbin processing may have something to do as well.

I think PA Karacter and A tiny bit of AVOX WARM on master bus gives you a very real analog saturation sound

Analog channel sound like mosquto... Softube sounds thinner on mid and top end but in a hi fi & polished way, waves sounds evenly distributed in the spectrum and saturated... Ozone also sounds like in a way like softube
