Thanks for the videos, I've watched a few of your videos on transitions from drywall to backerboard and I really couldn't find many of these and none that I found as credible as yours! I used your info to do my transition from drywall to backerboard in my laundry room to make the transition level...next time it's drywall for me this backerboard didn't make it an easy transition and it's not a shower so it wasn't actually neccessary...but other videos made it look easier than it actually is 😬. Thanks again you got my sub!

I like your delivery, informative, to the point, etc. So, you don't use thin set to tape the CBU? I plan on using Hydro Ban - as I did a previous shower, great stuff - but I taped with thin set then three (3) coats of HydroBan. Overkill? I thank you in advance for any insight you might lend.

Thanks for the informational video. I seen you do the taping two ways. Do I need to apply thin set on the joints first and let it dry before applying the waterproofing or can I just apply the tape and cover with waterproofing. What do you recommend. Thanks.
@SoThatsHowYouDoThat

A show both ways if time is an issue but the way I recommend foremost to go with, thinset over the tape let it dry and then apply the waterproofing membrane

I'm redoing a shower that has a fiberglass pan with a lip. I understand to stop the cement board at the lip. But when I go to tile what goes behind the tile and the gap that is created between the end of the cement board and where the tile rest? Can you direct me to one of your videos. Thanks

Your vids are great - thanks for taking the time to make these. Hardi seems to indicate that corners and seams need the glass tape embedded in thinset, but you seem to skip this step. I just finished doing my shower Hardi's way and it's pain because the thinset is so THICK and I truly suck at floating tape - espectially in corners. You mentioned in one video that you had a trick for preventing the thinset taped joints from bulging, but I never did see that trick.

That is to prevent cracking ? Someone installed tile in my bathroom and didn't put the tape and after 3 months the bathroom has huge crack on corner from the ceiling to the floor ,I put silicone to the crack ,maybe that is why the corner wall crack he didn't put the tape ?

You do a great job explaining things without dumbing it down like most other videos. To the point, but detailed at the same time. Tnk u. Do you have a video that shows how to remove a bathtub and then do what u did here? To make it into a shower. I'm scared with the "plumbing" aspect of it. Thanks. Ali

How do you expect that the curb will remain waterproof, when you use screws to attach the hardiboard, puncturing your liner?
@SoThatsHowYouDoThat
@SoThatsHowYouDoThat 8 жыл бұрын
Fred I use a paintable waterproofing membrane. This stops all water at the surface, It never makes it into the pan which is much better. It does not mnake sense to let the water seep into the pan to get to the liner and then go to the drain. It will stop at the surface of the pan and mold and midew will never creep in.

Any reason why you put your wall board down into the shower pan? Wicking!!
@SoThatsHowYouDoThat
@SoThatsHowYouDoThat 4 жыл бұрын
There is no wicking when you use a paintable membrane. This is not a pan liner shower system, it is getting hydroban which is a paintable membrane over the cement board and on top of the pan. I would never recommend a pan liner system, that is a terrible and old way of installing a shower.

I've see some videos where they use thinset on the tape and then the water proofing membrane over the thinset. So, it is not necessary to use thinset on the taped joints before using the waterproofing membrane?
@SoThatsHowYouDoThat
@SoThatsHowYouDoThat 3 жыл бұрын
I show this method because I live in Northern Minnesota and it gets very cold and Tile likes to crack and using this method will prevent that from happening. Using the other method will work too.

Hydroban. I use this on most of my joints in a shower. However if you gaps are larger than an 1/8 of an inch then fill with thinset frist then apply the paintable membrane. In this case I used hydroban
