Awesome vid Todd, great quick !explanation of a Brazilian power supply, btw can’t even hear that hot air station fan ...man I can’t wait to get mine delivered, seems sooo quick! You ever lay anything down to protect surrounding components when heating parts? Or just play it safe/smart and you usually don’t have to?
@ellensburgamplifier2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I noticed when I was editing that I could not hear it. I love OBS for being able to set the noise threshold. I do not use anything around the component that I am removing. The key is to use a small nozzle and keep the airflow low. I am 380c at 30%. Practice practice!

I recently got a Smart 3 that worked fine did some light mods to it. Tiffany style RCAs and upgraded the fans as it was a used amp and the RCA jacks were finicky, replaced the fans due to blades actually being broken. Bench tested the amp, worked fine played fine, got it hooked up in the car and it immediately fried the subwoofer, audio wasn't even hooked up yet. Checked the output with my meter and was reading 100+ volts DC coming out at all time. I assume something had shorted, but am unsure what a actually failed. Haven't seen an amp actually dump rail voltage into the output like that. I ordered new MOSFETs as I know a few died in the process. What else should I look out for?
@ellensburgamplifier2 жыл бұрын
The Smart amplifiers can be a little more involved. Make sure there are no shorted output transistors, zeners, or voltage regulators. When you start it up check for switching from the drive ICs. If outputs failed it usually takes the ICs with them. Thank you for asking!

Do the power supply snd output sections each use the same gate ic drives? My power supply seems to use an 8 pin 27524 and output seems to use an 8 pin lm393
@ellensburgamplifier2 жыл бұрын
The LM393 is part of the overcurrent protection. The 27524 is the drive IC for the power supply.

@@basshead100 The PA4Q is a TPS7A6601 which is used for the beginning of the remote turn-on circuit but I am not sure by memory if the Smart uses that for the remote start-up.

I have a blown smart 3 that was hooked up improperly at input power and looking to repair it myself. Could you recommend a decent soldering station and other tools I could benefit from to start repairing car audio amplifiers? Thank you
@ellensburgamplifier2 жыл бұрын
This is a tough one to answer. First, the Smart amplifiers on the difficulty scale will be a 10+ for someone just starting. I would keep that in mind. As for equipment, a good soldering iron like the Hakko FX888D is a great iron for the price. I started several years ago with the Xtronics 5000 series station. Then a good meter such as the Uni-T UT61e is a lot cheaper than a Fluke. Here is the most important purchase, a scope. Do not cheap out on this and read, read the reviews before purchasing to avoid disappointment. I still stand behind the Rigol 4 channel.
@pierregervais15672 жыл бұрын
@@ellensburgamplifier thanks for the detailed reply and for the recommendations! I was told it would most likely involve replacing mosfets and repairing burnt traces which I’ve discovered at B+ to a large cap. I’ve also identified the 3 types of mosfets used in this amp. I have pictures if you’re wanting to take a look. I’ve been looking into a rigol years ago…this now gives me a reason to acquire one! 😁

@ellensburgamplifier2 жыл бұрын
@@pierregervais1567 Oh it got hooked up backward. That does do a lot of damage. A lot of stuff may have survived but a scope will make the task much easier to accomplish. Are the power supply transistors shorted?
@ellensburgamplifier2 жыл бұрын
@@pierregervais1567 It depends on what type of scope. Some will have a slow sample rate which will make it hard to see.
