Marc Lamont Hill talks about the impact Bill Cosby’s overturned conviction has on the Black community.
The Black community has shared their opinions on Cosby being freed from prison, with many expressing satisfaction, while others were shocked.
Hill is joined by activist and founder of the #MeToo movement, Tarana Burke, and Dr. Brittney Cooper, associate professor at Rutgers University, to discuss the impact this has on the Black community.

@@talklesslistenmore5578 Actually, they don’t want women to have due process! Women simply ought to be believed without question, analysis, or critique. Due process would be akin to victim shaming and we can’t do that. In this case you become a rape apologist! So no, this whole sham is 180 degrees from due process. Meanwhile, it is claimed that it’s so hard for women to come forward yet when they are exposed for lying and making false claims there are zero consequences in this misogynist and patriarchal system! I find that peculiar…

@@jjones0822 c'mon black maaaan...you gotta be able to follow the legal discourse of this case. Cosby wasn't convicted on a lack of evidence. Primary to his conviction was the admission through a civil deposition that he regularly used qualudes to have sex with "young women". In Constand's case he used Benadryl... The promise he received was that by waiving his 5th amendment rights, he would not be prosecuted. The 2018 DA said that promise wasn't on paper, so fuck it. The SC said that promise didn't need to be on paper...you can't lie to people to get them to waive their constitutional rights. So...that was the short and dirty. Cosby pretty much validated what all 60 women said he did. "Hey wanna come over and tell me about your idea? Great. Can I offer you a drink?" What's difficult about this case to understand?

So Cosby...drugged and then penetrated these women. Do understand, taking drugs does not make you susceptible to unwanted advances. And you are correct he was not convicted of rape...he was convicted of FOUR counts of indecent aggravated assault...that's non consensual penetration...what we non law degree having folk call RAPE. If Mr. Cosby calling out on the black man's conscious to be more responsible in his ways is interpretted as him demonizing and embarrassing the black man, then there isn't much hope for the black man. Unfortunately these two women are the representation of who is raising our sons! If the absence of the black father has strengthen the black community than no need to do anything and the two ladies are right to scold Cosby for talking about a problem that isn't there. BUT if there is the problem in the black community is the result of the father's absence, then Mr. Cosby started an intelligent conversation that any sensible human being who observes the American society should explore further. Of course there is correlation between the deteriorating state of the black community and the absence of the black father! We must stop sugar coating our mistakes/errors. We should not retaliate against our own because we are uncomfortable with beimg called out especially when we know deep inside we are wrong. It is an attitude that is present in the black societies but with a costly consequence especially here in America when the black man is not much in control of anything. Mr. Cosby was correct to advise the black man to retake his place if we are to hope for a better community. Now, his carrier in Hollywood and his sexual endeavor should not be used to discredit the particular points he made! Maybe I am wrong but I sense that there is a personal hatred or dislike of Mr. Cosby. Again, it has nothing to do with the discution at hand. The discussion was to examine the circumstances that led to his release from prison so abruptly and to look at the judicial system again and her effectiveness. True there are victims of rape, sexual assault and other kind of sexual misconducs out here. No one wants the perpetrators roaming around free, it's not right. BUT, we also on the hand can not start to imprison men just because they were accused of something that happened 40 years ago. In all fairness, how is this right? How do we know what really happened? Why wait that long? What if Mr. Cosby had passed let's say 20 years ago, them what? 40 years in wait presents a challenge. How reliable is the memory after 40years? The accused is almost at an age when there is a possibility of memory fault. This is not how the justice system was supposed to work. If really there were crimes that he committed, then why wasn't he jailed long ago? Who swept the accusations under the rugs? How much power did he have to shut everyone up for all these years? Mr. Cosby has the right to also challenge his accusers. But how do you challenge what and who you don't even know? We all watched what has become of the American justice system " theatrical" trial...( I once dealt with the same court house....talk about the lady justice being bling ....Maybe elsewhere but not in the Montgomery county,PA! Her white facial tie is not on her eyes tight enought. I promise you that in Montgomery county, PA she can see; yes!) -Now with that said, the situation with the black American community poses another problem. A problem that leads directly to the white slave owners and the system. A problem that can be overcome with work but only when EVERY black American is on board. You don't free someone who has understood that they're still a slave. This has always been a challenge to the plantation slave. The house slave is the very reason why emancipation too so long. Only within the black race do you see a house servant turn his face away from his fellow servant, why because he now gets to serve his master inside the pretty mansion. He is now better than his brother who is out in the sun. Only in the black race do you find a faithful servant to his oppressor. The black since time of old is willing to give up his own identify to adapt to his oppressor's way so if his master will be pleased. I have always wondered what race were most of the dealers in the community? What race were most of the pastors in the black community? Inside the jails, what race is the majority of the prison guards? What color are most African presidents? Who do the well to do blacks play golf with?

I absolutely agree with the women! However, we must realize and recognize the justice system. The over zealous prosecutor, abrogated his oath by failing to abide the initial plea agree. It was a procedural error, by the state. This prosecutor was the same person that 'tried' to defend tRump during his impeachment hearing! Let that sink in. I'm not saying the Bill is innocent. But, the way that rules are set up, the prosecutor should have followed the rules! It's procedural. My heart goes out to the alleged victims. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

How the hell can this lady stand up there and claim we don’t believe women enough where there’s millions of women who have a history of being liars, drug addicts, etc. like most of these women can still have a man spend 2 years in jail base off their word. Most females are granted custody of a child based off their word. A man has to be a saint and a mother or a crackhead in order for him to gain custody but, I guess only men get the benefit of the doubt right😏smh?
