Tarantino has flirted with (and abandoned) a lot of sequels/spinoffs : Double V Vega, Kill Bill Vol. 3, Grindhouse 2, Killer Crow, Django/Zorro. I think he loves the idea but gets bored before he makes them. Also, I think there's a lot to admire about wanting to go out on top.

It’s stupid. Scorsese and Spielberg are 80 and 77 and still great. Eastwood is in his 90s and still good. Manoel DeOliveira was directed until he died at 106 and was still a great artist.

This is why Rocha is not a casting agent. He judges actors by who looks like the character. But the main point is who has the range to play that character.

Sneider, if you haven't seen these Walter Hill films already then I recommend you do so: Hard Times: When we talk about the best Bronson films - the ones where he's the lead, not part of an ensemble - then we mean 3 films: The Mechanic, Death Wish, and this one. - and I would say the case could be made that this is the best out of those 3. Extreme Prejudice: I will never understand why this film wasn't a bigger hit when it first came out. To me, it's probably in the top 5 of best pure action films of the 80s (and by 'pure' I don't include the hybrids that combine other genres). Johnny Handsome: This one is a solid if unspectacular neo-noir. But it's worth it for peak Mickey Rourke, and the rest of the cast isn't too shabby either: Morgan Freeman, Forest Whitaker, Ellen Burstyn and of course Lance Henriksen. Trespass: Again, I don't understand why this wasn't a bigger hit when it first came out. Such a great, tight little story - a contemporized Treasure of the Sierra Madre. I think it was simply due to bad timing: It came out right around the time of the LA Riots, so the studio got gun shy and scaled back the release (echoes of The Warriors release). Based on an original script by Zemeckis and Gale (yes, those two). Last Man Standing: I actually hated this when I first saw it around the time time it came out, but now it's one of my favorites - it's aged really well. There's a great atmosphere to this film. Great hard boiled noir dialogue. Undisputed: I'm not going to say it's great but a prison boxing film starring Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames (playing a version of Mike Tyson) can't be bad. Solid - does it's job. My only criticism is that the boxing scenes could have been tighter (and given the subject it's a significant criticism) but if Hill retired off this one it would have been a strong swansong.

Raimi Spider-Man movies are great (yes even 3). Not dated at all...If they're dated now, they were dated then. Those movies were very old-fashioned even for the early 2000s...That's why they're great! They're very awe shucks matched with zany 80s filmmaking. They're wholly unique. The best stuff of Multi-Verse of Madness is when they let Raimi really cook with the visuals!

Raimi had his time with Spidey I just am not excited by that pick. DiCaprio as Sinatra just feels kinda boring very safe. But I guess at his age Scorsese would rather worry about other things and just get actors he knows will deliver for him.

I heard that DiCaprio was supposed to be in The Godfather Finale Aka The Godfather Pt 4, as Santino "Sonny" Corleone. Deniro was supposed to reprise his role as Vito Corleone. And, as far as other actors, they have yet to be confirmed. But, is it too late to still make this film. I mean, DiCaprio would be cool to play Vito, while they can still find someone to play Santino. Ya never know.

I was pretty much on the same page as Jeff and his take on the situation with Tarantino. For a myriad of reasons whether it wasn't the script coming together, the cast not coming together or whatever, or the pressure of it being the last film and things not working out the way he wanted, I could see him and don't blame him for stepping away. I was a little surprised that Rocha was that forceful about his objections, but I get that, too. Maybe just clamp down and 'put the big boy pants on' so to speak, but I dunno, I don't know that he's not experiencing anything any of us wouldn't (no, none of us are writer/director of Tarantino's stature, I just mean in the sense of facing some obstacle and figuring out how to tackle it). I also found it somewhat funny just how frustrated Rocha seemed to be with the situation. Like he said, I can see him kicking down Tarantino's door going, "Get a hold of yourself, man!" 😂

Abigail was radio silences second best movie for my money, weirdly marketed as the twist from the trailer happens way later in the movie than i thought it would (but could you sell the movie on a more basic premise without it? I guess we won't know). I know jeff is not a hater but his ongoing onesided beef with RS is pretty funny, bring on ready or not 2 (is she gonna get remarried? lol, maybe she dates a lesbian and her family are the weirdos this time). It sucks that ungentlemenly warfare isn't screening outside of the us wish some youtubers or people up the foodchain would call amazon out on it. EDIT: "If you think about it for 5 seconds it is forgettable" so is roadhouse and reacher and all these things too what a weird line to delineate (there are like 5 memorable movies a year usually, we have had two already [Dune & Monkey Man for me] that's fine), to each their own of course, jeff is right about sinatra though. EDITED AGAIN: 1:07:03 i am pretty sure they announced it was 2D no? Also, i really wanted to like civil war (it was in my top ten anticipated) but it just didn't have the juice, after Devs and now this libertarian wank I sadly feel like Garland has lost his edge (Dredd, Ex Machina and Annihilation is one of the best 3 movie runs too; disappointing for me).
