There's a setting in the menu that you can turn on that shows how much damage you do to a target Let say if you shoot a dino with a rifle it shows how much damage you do and it shows how much damage your Dino's take when they are under attack If you want to see your damage output it's best to turn that in

@Appsro & Neebs: If you want to work out the damage on your weapon, find a Diplodocus, they can't deal damage and have good health so they're great for testing on. Use a magnifying glass to see the difference in health if you're using a wild one
