Target Phil Taylor Power 9 Five Gen 4 26g darts review

I started playing darts in September with a set of harrows rapide darts. I quickly found that I liked my darts landing flat to slightly tail down so for Christmas I thoughtI would take the plunge into a set of power 9 fives. I went for the generation 2 because I liked the aesthetics and the Quattro grip. Despite being a little unorthodox, I absolutely love them. I'm currently running the gen 2 with silver fire points, short pixel azzuri stems and vapor flights. Suits my style well and hit my first 180 last week.

Thats great to hear! Well done on the 180! Its all about finding the set up that works best for each individual and while I think in enough time we can get used to any dart there is always a dart and setup that seems to feel just right so its worth experimenting a little to find it :)

Great set of darts. I bought them just for my collection but ended up playing with them quite a lot. After a few changes to the set-up (shaft lenght, different flights) these might even be my new competitive darts. Although they are designed specifically for Taylors unique style of throw, they are very accesible for different types of throw.

I would always change my grip position to suit the dart, instead of always using the same position I would normally do. For example if I hit more trebles and doubles from the rear grip then I'd throw with the rear grip, and remember where I place my finger on the dart.

Bought these and thought they felt brilliant, the barrels have a great feel to them, Changed the flights and they are far better, wish I’d of bought them in 26g tho as went for the 24g. Tho must say I prefer the phase 5’s which are of similar shape at half the price. Great channel btw.

I'm a rear gripper and exactly the same thing happens with my throw and short flights like when you throw them from the rear. It doesn't matter what flights I use, my darts always land tail up. My darts only land flat (like Taylor's do) when I grip the dart at the front. I don't know why that's the case and I don't think that it's supposed to be like that :D But, by the way, another great Review! :)

Also depends on the arc of your throw and if its more loopy the darts will be dropping down into the board because I think when you throw from the rear at least for me anyway the front usually kicks upwards more.

Yeah I think its all about finding what your most happy with but as we can see with Peter Wright he can throw any darts well and if you stick with a set long enough you can get good with them but I still think a lot is down to how they feel when we throw them, if it feels right you know it but will find it hard to describe why it feels right :)

I bought these couple of days ago played using the supplied set up excellent dart flies very fast I'm a rear gripper but I found swapping out the titanium short shafts to the intermediate gen 4 shafts improved the flight and balance for me superbly I'm a new to darts player and this simple change for me made a huge difference I also use standard target flight which also makes a huge difference in flight excellent review and a superb dart with a couple of tweaks very expensive including extra shafts but well worth it

Tose Darts are very cool, they have a cool design, I have tried them, but I feel them a bit unstable, hard to control them, and I was still playing with my Winmau Diamond Fusion 23g, I felt the weight and I think 26g are so much for me, I guess when you train with them, in a couple of weeks you will find the tripple twenty, trotzdem they are very cool, I guess if the shaft is strong enough to stay good when we hit the Robin Hood, I am not a Profi and sometimes I brake the Shaft Pro Grip with the Robin Hood... thankyou for the video. greetings from Bayern, Germany.

Buyers should be aware that the titanium stems add about 2g to the overall weight of the barrel. So, a 22g dart in this line, actually weighs in at just over 24g.

I always feel like his type of darts are to big. They cover the treble so much. Not to mention he holds them more to the back ^^. What would be a good type of dart for someone who grips the front/middle of the dart?

Well he done well with his Unicorn Phase 5 so its what ever suits really. I think a lot depends on your throw as well as where you hold the dart, some people throw hard and flattish and others slow and loopy. I used to like the Lowe darts but in recent years I seem to have done well with straight barrel darts but again depends on the length. Some darts I like are the Barney Phase 5, Winmau Paul Nicholsen, Harrows Elite and Harrows Rapide, I think all those could be good for front and middle grippers.

I've had a lot of Taylor darts over the years and I wouldn't touch these. The weak point is the screw in replacement top ... the tops are so weak and bend easily when you Robin Hood the dart ... depending on skill level, be prepared to replace them often if you group your darts closely ... you might as well order a lot of replacement tops when you order these darts.

Thanks for the tip but my throw has been changing a lot since 2011 when I came back from a bad shoulder injury and lost my natural throw, I also had a wrist injury which is still bothering me and I also broke my hand which affected my release and I get all kinds of aches and pains these days. So I just play for fun at home really, some days are better than others, depends how my joints are :)

Yes I think I mentioned that on the written review on the forum (link in description) about the coating getting scraped, cant remember if I mentioned in the video as I had not played with them long enough, but its not a very durable coating and others have noticed the same :)

its not just you,the darts seem to go all over place even when taylor throws them.especially when he throws at the lower numbers the dart barely sticks in the board.i guess thats where the patterned tip helps,to make the dart hang in the board.they do look incredible though.

i just believe that torpedo like barrels are for a very specific type of throw,while most players can throw with straight barrels.personally i cant even get the torpedo darts stick in the board sometimes.but as long as they work for someone its all good.

Yeah I think short barrels are not for everyone, especially if you have long fingers or like to hold the dart with a few fingers along the barrel.

Yeah you can easily cut round a flight with scissors, just use the smaller flight as a template and draw round it on the bigger flights.

you can use any flight with any dart but does not mean the dart will fly well for you with a small flight, I dont like small flights as my throw is slow and more floaty so a bigger flight usually suits me better, smaller flights tend to suit faster harder throwers but in Taylors case he likes his darts to land in a certain way but his throw is so good that he could probably throw his darts without flights on and still hit his target :)

Nice Darts. But ! Compare them with John Lowe Darts please, and you will see that these are 1:1 same darts (with the exception of the grip for maybe a little bit)- The biggest difference is the price. John Lowe will cost half of that.

Evgeni Roshmanov I own a set of Taylor gen 3 at home and they are difficult to throw compared to say MVG mighty generation, Barney's phase 5s or Anderson world champions. because the flights are so small it feels like you're throwing a dart minus the flight

Its the flights, they just dont provide enough stability for my throw but having said that I have been trying to get better with them and so far I am making some improvement and when I do get them right they fly super smooth but its still better overall when I try some standards.

Yeah they take some getting used to, I am improving but not sure if I would ever stick with them long term, if my throw was more perfect then I think I would be even better with them so for now I think I will just use them as a kind of training aid to hopefully improve my throw :)

I need dart help. I'm trying to replace my G3 points and I ordered 25 mm points but they are tiny but I still like short points so what length will I order. 32mm?

I think when you order points its best to ask the retailer first, the problem is some will list the full length of the point as it is but not the length you can expect when its repointed and also not all darts will have the same depth of hole.

They are if they work well for you but thats the tricky part, there is no way to know until you try them and its an expensive dart to take such a gamble on, but if you have not tried this style of barrel before you could always try a cheaper similar style first like the John Lowes or Andy Forhams or even the Red Dragon Swingfires :)

All coatings wear in time, some quicker than others and also depends on the acidity of your sweat and how well you group the darts etc, I know one guy wore off a coating in a few hours on the Harrows Aura, his sweat must be toxic! :)

Wrist does not suffer so much here. i cannot imagine MvG, Rob Cross or Michael Smith would throw these darts. The question is if delivered (packed) stems are short or medium. they looks like short ones but i am not sure

Yeah but Taylor used to throw long straight darts so I guess its just what we get used to in the end :)
