I’m surprised at how similar a target from 40 yrs ago looks to one today, same carts, same red walls, same lighting, similar displays, et.

Wow man, I grew up shopping at that Sports Arena Target, and still shop there, but not until 1986. What a trip to see it again. It pretty much looked like this all throughout the 90s and even into the early 2000s. They didn't drastically change the look of the store until 2011 when it got a full remodel.

I was at Naval Training Center a few blocks away from Late 81 - March of 82. And I Remember going to Target then. Not Fed Mart. Watched a lot of Movies across the street at Mann's and did the Swap Meet plenty too. As I was at North Island till 85.

@@michaellandreth1392 great story, my dad ran the Airman Apprentice School at NTC around that time. They had a carrier deck mockup with a real A7 Corsair, it was on one of the grinders on the RTC side of the base, kinda near the R4 Building and the 3 deck "E" barracks.

Clairemont Target is where we would buy holiday items back in the 80s. I have a distinct memory of picking out ALF Valentines for my classmates (Horton Elementary where you at?!) and then heading over to Warehouse Video to rent Fletch. Good times!

I grew up in Massachusetts. The first time I ever saw a Target store was June 1991 during a trip to Disneyland in Anaheim. There was a humongous Target store on Grand Harbor Blvd (I believe was the name of the thoroughfare?) right down the street from Disneyland. I believe the store is still in that same spot today.

There was also Fedco, mainly in the L.A. area. The employees worked there forever. Now, there's no longer employee loyalty. When you go to Walmart, Target and the like, it's almost like it's a whole new staff every time you visit.

I worked at Target from Feb 1988 to May 1996, the Balboa Avenue store T202. Fun times back then, met tons of people/friends and scored plenty of cashier babes! LOL I remember when they did the first major remodel around 1992 I'd guess and I took the #7 red cubed cashiers light, you see in this video, made a lamp with it and used for a few more years in my apartment. Good times.
