▸ Step 1. OBS SETTING - Output - Recording tab:
Type: Standard
Format: mp4
Encoder: x264 (depends on your setup)
Output: 1920x1080 (recommended)
Rate control: CRF
CRF: 15
Keyframe Interval: 0
CPU Usage Preset: superfast
Profile: high
Tune: None

▸ Step 2. Create Multi-Output Device, rename it "Internal Audio for OBS", make sure "BlackHole 2ch" is checked as well as 'Build-in Output", you can listen to it on your phone or speaker.

▸ Step 3. Lastly, go to Settings - Sound, Output should be "Internal Audio for OBS" (created on step 2)

▸ Step 4. Back to OBS, Setting - Audio - Global Audio Devices:
Desktop Audio: BlackHole 2ch (click ok)

I will also mention for anyone using this set up to record a video conferencing meeting (like in Google Meets) you will need to change the 'speakers' device in Google Meet (and probably in Zoom or other softwares as well). I was getting internal recording using KZbin but unable to get them in Google Meets. Changing this worked!

Hi Tario, I have followed your instructions however, when I record something, and then I changed the settings from the Sound to be "Internal Audio for OBS > Aggregated Device", it seems to be causing the video NOT to play at all from KZbin. I wonder why.

Thanks for the detailed video! I was able to fix my "desktop audio" using Blackhole but for some weird reason I couldn't hear the audio on my headphones. I was using Blackhole 16 ch, but thanks to your comment to someone in the chat. I was able to resolve it by using the Blackhole 2ch! Thanks again and hello 👋🏼 from Houston!

Great explanation of how this works. I've been hit and miss with audio from youtube clips and remote guests through restream. It's embarrassing when you have a guest scheduled and you can bring in the video but then you can't hear them, they can't hear you, or the stream doesn't pick up the audio. I'm running audio through a Rodecaster Pro with Sterling Sp150SMK Condenser Mics, video through a Canon T7 with cohost in studio, or my M1 Mac webcam if I'm solo, it's confusing for technological ignoramus such as myself.You have a new subscriber. This really helped me understand how this all works. Trying to host and produce a livestream is much more difficult than people think. Before I started this endeavor, I thought I'd just push a button and the thing would take care of itself...102 episodes in and I'm learning more by the day, so info like this is invaluable to me. Thanks again, brother!

Thank you so much for this video. It really helped a lot. But I still have a question. How can I change the volume that I hear while still recording in OBS? After changing to the multi-output device in the MacBook settings I‘m unable to change the volume. I have to change back to my MacBook speakers to change the volume and then change back to the multi-output device. That works, but is there any simpler way? Thanks in advance.

I'm using OBS with Bitwig DAW & Audient iD14 & one mic channel. Your settings work fine after the MacOS got used to using a Multi-Output Device. I had to reset the input source a few times but it seems pretty stable now. Blackhole is the key.

Hello Tario, thank you for the amazing tutorial! This is the best one I've seen on KZbin. I follow your suggestion step by step, and successfully record the desktop audio (if I am playing a KZbin video) and my own voice (using a external mic). But if the desktop audio is not from KZbin, but from a discord channel, the desktop audio does not work (I mean no sound is captured) - the only audio I can hear is my own. I do role play with people on discord every day, so this is extremely important for me. I appreciate if you can help me solve this problem. I am willing to pay for it. Thanks again!

Thanks for the video. FWIW, the latest version of OBS has a "macOS Screen Capture" option. If you choose this, you don't need Blackhole. Note when choosing this option, you will want to set "Desktop Audio and "Mic/Aux" to zero and max out macOS Screen Capture 2 under "Audio Mixer", otherwise you will get an echo.

Thanks bud! I teach music lessons on line and have been using the recorder in Skype to record lessons, but this is annoying to do because it cuts parts of the video off if the webcam is in a horizontal position. This will allow my students to see everything needed when reviewing lesson footage and they can finally hear themselves!
