I didn't listen to this song for a while because I was a little scared and didn't know what to expect. And nothing could have prepared me for it 😂 Tarja was like "hey Tuomas. hey, I wrote a song about you & the whole drama. Wanna hear it?" * presses play * *_AGGRESSIVE CIRCUS MUSIC STARTS PLAYING_* 🤡 she was so fucking funny for this. this song is wild :D but also interesting because it gives some insight into how she was feeling at that time. there's a middle part missing with voice-overs that say stuff like "no beer, no show!" and "i'd rather play here naked with you" so yeah this live performance is great!!

This is a really good, strong song. Thank you❤ This song is just so in your face kinda song!! I don't know exactly when Tarja wrote this song but I would guess around 2007-2010. She released Diva in her 4th studio album, the Shadow Self, that was released in 2016. I hope you'll do the song Enough, too. That is another song that is rumoured to be about the breakup with Nightwish.

The voice overs and laughter in the studio version give the full context to the song and yes we all know what it is, whether openly acknowledged or not. Someone did a great video with the lyrics and background material (like the letter and press conference) to illustrate the song - I hope you can find it and take a look at it. The other song Enough is very poignant - symphonies of sorrow, symphonies of agony, the depth of the pain of the situation they were all in is obvious. Still, not taking sides, one can't fail to note that "the boys'' did it not once but twice! I am glad Tarja was able to put it behind her - to the point where she even said that although unlikely she did not close the door to some kind of reunion -, thrive, find her voice not just as a singer but as a person, and steer her career in full alignment with who she is. She is indeed phenomenal in every way

Tarja was under the dictatorship of Tuomas who only wanted others to follow orders. She proved to be much more than a full band, taking her solo career forward as a "diva". I went to see her live here in France and she is really amazing!

"Diva" and "Love to Hate" were written long before she released them. I think she just waited until she felt comfortable enough, emotionally, to release it.

this song is so full of feelings. In the album version, near the end of the song, some men's voices can be heard saying: "Is this garbage bag big enough? (noise of bills), not sure about it, how much we got?, not sure about this "Hey! No beer, no show! Should we check some page instead? Ha, I prefer to play here naked with you. Where is all vodka gone? Where is my vodka?" ohh and at the end of the song Tarja laughs. she is splendid!

I know everyone thinks tuomas is one of those voices and perhaps he is, but I think the others are the managers of nightwish. Finberg was known for being a sexual predator.

And they put all that footage themselves, on their official DVD, lol. Don't remember his name, but he works with them in the studio, and apparently joined them on tour as well.

However, I still think the managers of Nightwish has a lot to do with what happened and it was motivated by their greed. They also knew how to manipulate tuomas and exploit his alcohol addiction and jealousy. They were also the architects of the smear campaign against Tarja and Marcelo. An example of this is the film "a day before tomorrow" included as an extra on the "End of an era" DVD. It's clearly a hit job against Tarja and Marcelo and it's fully filmed and edited by Ewo. Ewo hated Marcelo and would do anything to get rid of him, even possibly destroy the band. I think he saw Marcelo as an impediment to him fully exploiting the band and it's members for his own benefit. Ewo knew that as long as he could keep tuomas and the guys drunk and clueless he could do this, but that didn't work with Tarja and Marcelo.

One of my favorite songs by her. Regardless of the drama, musically wise, it's a great song. So unconventional in terms of style, so dark and dramatic. Not a lot of musicians can mix a circus theme, opera, metal, and such a bombastic orchestral arrangement, and make it work. I also love that she's never chasing a hit, and repeating a popular formula to appeal to a wider demographic. "Diva" is an unambiguously dark, theatrical song, and I love how passionately she performs it. And of course, yes. It's a word that was used against her for years, I'm glad she reclaimed it 🖤.

Oh, so excited to see this😄 this was one of the best performances from this concert. We, fans think this song is about Tuomas and Tarja's breakup with Nightwish but Tarja has never confirmed it. Tarja herself has said (in the Living the Dream booklet) about Diva that it tells sthe story of Diva's last walk on the ship before she is pushed out by the rats on board. Tarja says: "Any resemblance to reality is pure coincidence..." and also "It took me time until I felt comfortable releasing it, but I am very happy that I did." Tarja also mentiones that she got theme idea (pirate theme) from Pirates of the Caribbean when she saw in Antigua one of the ships that was used in the filming of the movie

@kara deniz yeah😅 to me it is quite a big coincidence. But she necessarily didn't want to add fuel to the flames by making it official that it was a disstrack about Tuomas. And that is also probably the reason why she released it many years after making it🤷‍♀️

Thank you for this great reaction. It's the first time I hear someone revealing the history of how the song came alive in a reaction video to this song - that she had written the song just for herself and didn't publish it first. And this is so important for understanding the situation that she was in at that time. I think you cannot take sides on that split of Tarja and the band, because we all haven't been there! We just know what was shown to the public, but we all can't look behind the scenes really. It's just sad whenever I read such comments of people condemning Tarja (or Tuomas) for what has happened, as if they knew the whole truth - which the obviously can't! Now this show was amazing, just look at the stage, the audience all around you! You have to be really self confident to do such a show. And what you hear is 100% live, no re-recordings afterwards, no backing tracks, nothing like that at all!

Exactly how I feel. Both sides were caught up in it and blaming the other (like a bad divorce), a lot of what was said tells us only that everyone was hurting. And this is old hurt, now; let's stop picking at the scabs in search of something we can never really find, and instead appreciate the people and their art.

So, the thematic thing with Pirates and everything is that she was on a sinking ship. She revealed her escape (she told them she would record one album after Once, do the farewell tour and leave the band) and this was the mutiny. Then, they (the rats on board) made her walk the plank. But she now is the captain of her own ship, and they may need her for a reunion of something as they are heading to the end of Nightwish. In the studio version, she even asked some actors to imitate the voices of the members of Nightwish repeating things they said to her while she was on the band. She called them the Drunken Rats. They are saying things like "this is garbage" about a song she wrote and showed them. They are talking about having sex with her. And asking "where's my vodka?"

Remember tuomas was into the whole "Pirates of the Caribean" thing. It was often said his look was to mimic that of Capt. Jack Sparrow and he even had a small doll attached to the front of his keyboard in many shows. It was said that also often used the metaphor of Nightwish as a ship at sea. So, I think that's where this comes from. " She revealed her escape (she told them she would record one album after Once, do the farewell tour and leave the band) " Yes, but I think the "mutiny" was the band plotting and planning behind her back to fire her prematurely at the end of the Once tour and the big drama play, with the open letter, the book, and all that. By their own admission, they started planning the whole thing at least 6 months before the final concert. A "mutiny" is like a conspiracy, in that it involves many plotting in secret against one. In this case she wasn't the captain, but they were definitely conspiring against her. "Rats on board", I interpret as those who are connected to the band and feed off of it or exploit it. Rats on a ship are like vermin or parasites in that they consume the resources but don't contribute. I'm thinking that's the management team, that tuomas handed control of the band to back when he fired Sami. And a "marriage" is a contract. So, "you married your own hell", might be a reference to the contracts tuomas signed relinquishing control to them. And the voices, I think some of those are those managers. One of them, John Finberg, has since been outed as being a sexual predator who frequently preyed on young women.

Actually, the studio version of this song is not this heavy. This is the band version. Her version is more orchestrated, as she worked with the people responsible for the Pirates Of The Caribbean soundtrack. She has other songs that are directed to Tuomas. Her first solo song was I Walk Alone, more about her journey. But you can get more tea about the whole her and Tuomas situation in songs like Enough and Dark Star.

The recording would be in Bucharest ( boo caw resHt) Czechia formerly The Czech Republic. You are right the audience looks down upon them not up. The lyrics are How? How does it feel? Knowing you married your own hell? You couldn't get out of your own mind. Now! Now I have the key out of this downward spiraling conspiracy. Just take a look. Just look at Diva! Diva! Diva! Debuted in 2012 The Shadow self I believe. You can see her sing it in Argentina. A fan gave her a paper crown she wore during the show. You can see she was very pregnant then wrapped in a beautiful off the shoulder gown. I do mean wrapped.Timing I think puts her at about 5 months with her Daughter Naomi who is cute as a button and soon to be 11 in September. Mom here is 42/43./I don't know the date of filming but her Birthday is in August. Aging like a fine wine. No lie sans make up you know she is in her 40s but no less beautiful in my eyes. Also as you can hear as she did protect her voice she has lost nothing. Too many big voice musicians in rock bands take no care of their voice. No rest. No warm ups. Over use. Stress and push for a big sound when you need to release and be open and relaxed to reach the note. Infection can not just ruin a night but turn into something serious, long term or chronic. It has caught out big names who have great careers at the start then 2 or 3 albums in their most precious instrument is ruined! That is their meal ticket. Their career. Ask Marko, or Thoumas, or Emppu, or Jukka, how would they react if they found a band member abusing his guitar, piano, or drums?? I dare say they would not be told to just suck it up and live with it. 2nd point she is married by 2002. She does not feel comfortable undressing with her male, drunken band mates or being on the same bus to sleep at night? Simply ask yourself would you be comfortable with your spouse being alone with band mates of the opposite gender where drugs and alcohol are being used? Would you be? This hardly seems diva-ish. But that is from a mature adult perspective without emotion. I can tell you from everything I have seen and heard from everyone who knows Tarja shows the warmest, kindest, generous human being. Here is a fact her North American tour. Tickets advertised at $25.00!!! Her!! Now!?? 😮😮 She could be charging hundreds but isn't. She could have refused to give Floor her blessing when she went to Tarja for it to join jer ex band mates to succeeded ( on what ever terms) the woman who succeeded Tarja and the ones who hurt her so. She would be well within her rights to want to see them fail. To be unable to forgive. But of course she did no such.thing. Floor got her blessings. Nightwish got a new lease on life and Tarja kept her friendship with Floor. Who set ground rules about not singing songs targeting Tarja like Bye, Bye, Beautiful! She honours the friendship and the legacy and takes the highroad. Both Ladies have my respect for that.

Bucharest is not in the Czech Republic, but in Romania. It's the capital of Romania. But before this concert was filmed in Bucharest, Tarja actually played it in the Czech Republic, in Prague. And the song is from Shadow self from 2016, and Naomi was already born. I agree with the rest of the comment. Tarja aging like a fine wine. I also find her more charismatic than before, maybe it's her confidence as an artist and the experience that comes with age. I like her personality and music.

No. She was definitely fired and in a very nasty way, an open letter posted on the internet to all the fans. In that letter they make accusations against her and her husband, and talk about "cultural differences" because he is hispanic. Yes, it's true that she was planning to leave one day, but that was going to be at least a year or more later. They were going to do another album and tour together, or at least that was what Tarja was lead to believe.

It would behoove people to listen to a wide selection of Tarja's work to know her voice before making uneducated commentary. Or just trying to start arguments. The more knowledge and exposure to a subject the more robust your arguments. Now as for Tarja...20 years on and we see her IRL and on stage. You can judge her for who she is by her words and actions. By the company she keeps and her friends. The quality of your friends goes far to settle your character. What said friends say about you. Now keep this in mind. This week sees Tarja and Marko touring together as solo artists. That again raises my point about friends.
