Chris Rea's "The Road to Hell" is a commentary on modern life and its stresses. Released in 1989, the song paints a bleak picture of a world dominated by consumerism, environmental destruction, and societal decay. Rea uses the metaphor of a road to convey a sense of entrapment and inevitable decline, capturing the feeling of being caught in an inescapable cycle of modern existence. The song's haunting melody and somber lyrics reflect a sense of disillusionment and foreboding about the direction in which society is heading. The song’s ability to resonate with listeners decades after its release is a testament to its profound impact and Rea’s artistry.

There is a lot of Truth in all his songs - some are happy, some are sad (or very sad)., some are bittersweet. This is why they are beautiful. "Beauty is truth, truth beauty" said John Keats. The Polish romantic C.K. Norwid said :" Hell is inability to love" . We all probably don't know yet how talented and precious Chris Rea is. Chris - lots of love from Poland!

Chris was unique sadly suffering a stroke in 2016 and collapsing on stage in 2017 really took its toll on him, and he had his pancreas removed due to pancreatic Cancer. And yet adopted the attitude that when you face your own mortality, you appreciate life more. That I know is very true as I’ve battled 2 lots of cancer and 2 more scares. He had a unique voice and what a guitarist🎸 he was absolutely a master at it. Road to hell was for me his best song ever . Love all the versions here in you tube.
