Yes he was very respectful toward Eric, Eric wrote the guitar lead for " Whiskey In The Jar " for Thin Lizzy when the band was unknown it was the breakout song for the band, although it is a very, very old song, the lead guitar track here was written by Eric in the early days of Thin Lizzy.

It truly makes me sad that Thin Lizzy will only ever be a part of our past. Phyl had such a unique voice. The guitar harmonies were incredible. There's never been another band like 'em, never will be. It's kind of crazy that I've never really gotten over Phyl's death. To this day, all these years later, Thin Lizzy is still in my top 5 all-time favorites. R.I.P. Phyl & Gary
