Hey ho, here we go! Vagabond is a great starting class, good stats, good gear, good choice! I'd say you're doing quite well indeed right off the bat. I think it can be said that Tree Sentinel is right at the start of the game to teach us an important principle: if we encounter an enemy or area that seems too tough for us, it probably means we should come back to it later when we are stronger/better, and it's entirely fine to do so. I know there are more episodes I have to catch up with, and I know you don't want spoilers. You did mention wanting to understand some leveling mechanics and such. I can say there are a lot of mechanics to learn in the game, and that understanding them makes the game a much more fun experience, because it's certainly plenty difficult even when you have learned them, and the game often isn't very clear about teaching some of them to us. For example, in case you haven't yet noticed, when you break an enemy stance after a Guard Counter, if you pause a tiny moment before striking again instead of immediately striking, you will perform a Critical Hit which will deal a ferocious amount of damage. Oh so satisfying. Similarly, to perform backstabs, we want to pause long enough to stop moving before hitting R1 or we will just hit the enemy normally instead of performing the Critical Hit backstab. The game doesn't tell us these fine details. Two handing a weapon or performing a heavy (R2) or charged attack (hold R2 until your weapon swings, including while on Torrent) and jump attacks (esp a jumping R2 attack) are all great at breaking an enemy's stance. I personally love jump attacks. Relatedly, when you knock down a foe and part of its body glows yellow, that is the guidance of grace showing us where to poke it with an R1 to get a critical hit. For leveling up, pretty much any build will want a good bit of added Vigor (health points) sooner rather than later. Soft cap for Vigor is 60. Earlier on in your game, I would recommend leveling up your skills stats like STR or DEX just enough to be able to use the weapons you want to wield as you acquire them. Most of the damage increase you get for some time will come from leveling up your weapons with smithing stones much better, rather than pumping your STR or DEX. So earlier in the game, I like to focus on VIGOR and ENDURANCE primarily for a melee sort of build, and a bit later on pump my chosen damage stats, It's a long game and you will be gaining many levels, unsurprisingly, so you needn't feel pinched or miserly with your levels. Speaking of weapons, I'll soon see in your next videos if you checked out that Lordsworn's Greatsword you picked up which is a great early weapon your build can make good use of. I love greatswords. I think they are the perfect mix of speed and wallop. I love to dual wield two greatswords. Tons of fun. If you are sleeping on that sword, maybe try it out and see if you like it. Another basic tip for weapons often not noticed or understood is that if you pick up a weapon that requires more STR to use than you have, if you two hand it, you have 50% more STR to wield it with. So, you can wield a weapon requiring 30 STR if you have 20 STR and wield it with both hands. This comes in very useful at times, and it also lets us try out new weapons and see if we like them before we have the STR required and may not want to add that much STR to use it with one hand. I like your playstyle and commentary. Keep 'em comin'. Cheers!

My first souls game was Elden ring, and it took me 11 months to finally beat it. Earlier this year, i then got into Bloodborne…and i loved it. Loved it so much, i played it 3 times back to back. It then made me want to get into Dark Souls. So i bought it and while i waited for it to come in, I decided to play Elden Ring again new playthrough…and I actually beat it LITERALLY in a week! BB is a big thanks to that victory…I watched your BB series and it was great, I can’t wait to see you experience this game as it’s the first time, a souls game is open world!

I meant your equipment will😅😅 dictate how fast you will roll. You have heavy armor and your weapons and shield 🛡 has weight to. There is a stat for this. Endurance increases the maximum equipment load. Or choose other armor 😅

Lots to take in when playing Elden Ring. The game is LARGE, it will take you a while to get through the game as there is a lot of side quests and areas to explore, just the main quest itself is long, but fun. Try new weapons and gear to find what suits you and your playstyle best as there are tons of weapons/gear in the game. You might wanna be quick, but not do as much damage or slow but hit hard and much more. Also there is a weight system if you didn't notice, you can see it in your inventory. It goes from: Light (30% or less) - Medium (70% or less) - Heavy (100% or less) - Overloaded (Over 100%). You get heavier the more stuff you equip and if your armor is heavy. You can see the weight of an item when looking at it in your inventory. Your dodging will be slower and stamina usage higher the heavier you are. You can level up Endurance to be able to carry more with ease. Also since the game is so large it gives you a chance to explore and gather items or levels to get stronger before following the main path, as early bosses in this game can be very hard. So don't be afraid to steer off the main road and explore and rather come back later if you meet something that is too tough. There is no rush, explore and have fun! The game is best enjoyed if you take your time and soak in the world 😁

Elden Ring is not a game that came natural to me. I don't play Souls, and I required *heavy* assistance from KZbin guides, but if you get the right build, you can just destroy everything (including Malenia) with no trouble. It's all about what build you get, you can overpower things so easily if you have the right tools. I platinumed the game, and if I can do it, literally anyone can do it.

I always tell people who've never played these games before that the most difficult part of these games is just learning the mechanics. While I wouldn't say the game is necessarily "easy" It gives you more than enough tools to make it through, no matter your build or playstyle (for the most part). One of the reasons that these games don't need easy modes is because you can make the game as easy or as hard as you want simply by using (or not using) the tools it gives you. And despite what some people may say, I don't think there's any shame in looking up guides if that's what you want to do.

Both these replies are spot on. Soulsborne games let you get there in your own way in your own time. The only requirement is not giving up and enjoying the world. I am not a good gamer. I got there through all the Soulsborne games just doing that. 😊👍

@@JonesySpaceCat Your sword and shield (Guard Counter) build is a good place to start. Vigor, Endurance and Strength will be your main stats now... and it's a good idea to have Faith (25) later as there are many powerful buffs you can cast. Don't worry, you'll be able to respec if you wanna try different builds. Try to get a Brass Shield from a soldier in the ruins who carries it (random drop) It has "No Skill" as it's Ash of War. This will allow you to use your weapons' Ash instead (L2) sometimes followed by R1 or R2.

Yay Jonesy, I am so pleased you are finally getting to play. What an Incredible journey you are about to behold. There is so much to see in this world. The map is HUGE and there is something tucked away in every corner. Don't think you didn't learn much in your 1st hour... You did Great and I'm sure there will be a ton of tricks and tips in the comments. (Fat Rolling, Item placement, etc.) You may also want to change some menu setting to make the game perform better. I highly recommend turning OFF "motion sensor functions" There is nothing more frustrating than trying to fight a boss and having your character sit down or wave. I ALWAYS play OFFLINE. I hate all the notes and other garbage on the floor... ruins the Immersion. You can change Launch Setting to "Play Offline" I swapped the X and Y buttons... and I LOVE IT. Being a From guy I need my interact button as X. and running and jumping is easier with O and Triangle. And Lastly.... I like to turn OFF " Camera Auto Wall Recovery" prevent camera from bouncing around to avoid walls Take these with a grain of salt... These are MY custom setting. Do what works best for you. Don't feel like you need to rush through the Bosses either, that's not really what this game is about. There is a (metric) TON to explore and do, with a lot of NPC questlines, So, take your time and soak up every sight and sound. Talk to everyone many time, as their dialog and locations can change.... and just have FUN!!! There are some bosses that are hard as FK... but we'll make sure your ready for them. ❤ Hope you are having a GREAT day!!!

I'm so excited to watch you go through this journey in the Lands Between to become Elden Lord, Jonesy! I've got nearly 430 hours in this game, I've beaten it 100% twice, and I have various other characters throughout their own runs. I plan on beating it again before the DLC comes out. I read your description and it said you're okay with tips and tricks, so I will provide them as best as I can as I watch you fumble your way through this game 😂 - Firstly, since you picked the Vagabond starting class, be aware that it is the only class that starts out with enough heavy gear equipped that it has you fat-rolling by default. Thus, you may want to unequip something to make you have normal rolling. - Remember to continue to talk to characters until their dialogue is exhausted and they start repeating themselves. Never attack characters unless they attack you first. - The items that are important to buy when you see them will be categorized as Key Items. Those can range from Cookbooks to expand your crafting repertoire, Memory Stones to increase the amount of magic abilities you can equip if you plan on using them, and Cracked Pots for throwable weapons. - 36:16 That's a harmless animal known as a rabbigaroo; a rabbit and kangaroo hybrid 😂 - You did a stellar job exploring the first enemy encampment! You didn't die, killed everyone there without alerting anyone, and got all the major loot! Incredible Jonesy! - If you want a breakdown of the stats, I can explain it here or in the Discord. Just let me know. - You can press L3 to get off the horse without having to use the Spectral Steed Whistle itself. I normally equip the whistle in the pouch instead of the quick item bar to free up space. To equip items in the pouch, open the menu and look on the right side of the screen. You'll see the pouch slots. Select a slot and press triangle to switch what you want equipped in the respective slot. Choose the item and it will be placed into that slot. To open the pouch when playing, just hold the triangle button and the pouch will be overlayed on the quick item bar. Then press the appropriate directional button that you mapped the item to in order to use it. - If you don't like all the bloodstains and spoilery messages on the ground, then you should play offline. It can be that you are level 23 and the enemies 99. I know that there is a teleporter in the bushes nearby a giant. It leads too secret place on the map. There are strong enemies there with weak defence but very strong attacks. But if you sneak up on them. They are dead quick. You will level up quickly. You can repeat this place as much as you wan't. Remember don't leave at the same way that you came. There is big statue that comes alive. And do a cyclops attack on you. Your Dead if it hits. Go too another transporter.

Yeah, Vagabond is a great starting class, but it is the only one that loads you up with two good weapons (the halberd being the second) which puts the player in Heavy mode right out the gate. Easy solution is to just unequip whichever one you aren't using. No wonder Jonesy said she is feeling sluggish compared to other games.

Look up how to make a proper build. DEX weapons are the best, and most fun. Fairly early on (depending on where you go) you can restat your character. Easiest build on your first go, will probably be a DEX/INT or DEX/FAITH. Faith has a lot more options as far as builds go, but INT (magic) is more OP. If you go DEX/INT, you can use the MOONVEIL, which is very OP, and fun to use. My current build is Storm from X-Men. Lightning Build, with Wind Ashes of War (spells you can assign to your weapons, when allowed). She's very powerful.

Best builds are always a matter of opinion and preference, but I will say that a STR build is significantly easiest of all the builds I have tried. DEX build has been 2nd or 3rd easiest. I would recommend STR or QUALITY build for a first playthrough of this game if one is not keen on magic or super versed in how these games work. STR has the benefit of readily staggering enemies as you hit them, which is a huge advantage not to be underestimated. Bleeding which is often achieved through DEX weapons is also super powerful, but not as frequently or reliably as pure brute stagger force and damage from STR. The fun for me is trying out and comparing a variety of builds which I have been doing the last two years. They are all fun and quite different in experience. The main thing is to aim for the kind of experience you most enjoy. But a careless or aimless build will be punishing later in the game, I can also say.

You only had problems with Bloodbourne because you didn't level up your vitally 😅especially in the end game and Dlc the enemies hit hard 😅 As a new player you should only level vitality and endurance. Damage comes from upgrading your weapons.

Elden Ring...from what I've seen of this game, it's indeed a beautiful-looking game, and epic in theme. It's definitely a From Software entry I may consider delving into, at some point in life...but for now I'll just count how many times you die. :P Which is at the moment, 6 deaths. Keep it up.
