@@layneyzback4936 I hadn't heard the song before seeing the movie, and I specifically remembered that line ('I miss my LIFE') because I thought it was so powerful - combined with the imagery of him floating in that pool and the symbolism of the lyrics. Then I listened to Elton's original and it said 'wife' instead of 'life', and I was like: oh, they must have changed it for the movie. Bit disappointing it hasn't always been 'life', but I completely understand why they changed it, it makes the lyrics applicable to Elton's situation in the movie.

The attention to details, the orchestration, the choice of instruments, the way the song is reinvented a bit while staying the same, the magnificent ending. I've never seen this movie,and I didn't even know that there was an official video with the actor who played Elton John singing his version of "Rocket man". I just wanted to listen to the song,I found this video by chance and curious I decided to click on it. This boy sang with such delicacy and sweetness that I was sincerely moved. Looking at him,I also wondered if he wasn't also excited during this performance. And while he's not a professional singer,he's shown many of today's unlikely singers that singing doesn't mean screaming into a microphone! And that scene within the clip,in which,playing Elton,he hangs his hat and collapses disconsolately on the staircase,gave me a lump in my throat. Taron Egerton,he truly deserves all my respect. It was a great discovery,something I found without even looking for it. I think I'll come and replay this version often,perhaps alternating it with the Elton John original. The scene where he tells his mother over the phone about his sexuality is so far the biggest acting achievement I've seen this year. Honestly it almost seems absurd now that we gave Rami Malek an Oscar for wearing a wig, fake teeth, not singing and just copying what Freddie used to do. I mean it was not his fault, the script didn't give him a chance to do anything dramatic or demanding, but still. Egerton's performance stands on its own, while Malek's is good only if you know who he is supposed to be.

Not to compare it to Bohemian Rhapsody because that was fantastic, but I personally enjoyed this film more especially as a biopic, not only was it wonderfully shot, but it was a collage of Elton’s life in a real glammed up fashion from him being a kid to the height of his career and it held nothing back in terms of his anger management and sex drugs and rock N roll lifestyle, I thought it was perfect tribute to Elton’s legacy, really worth a watch if you like his music.

DeanoPiano same... it captured a side of humanity that i haven’t seen in film for a while.... The original Bohemian Rhapsody was suppose to be a depressing movie dealing with impending death. Took them forever to get it green lit for production. I’m glad Rocketman showed us what life is really like for a lot of people. Elton john is truly an inspiration.

RocketMan is WAY better than Bohemian Rapsody becuase Taron Egerton actually sings all the Sir Elton John songs, in Bohemian Rapsody Remi Malek lip-synced, he didn't actually sing ANY of the Freedy Mercury songs. Sir Elton John didn't even like Bohemian Rhapsody!!!

MissJools11 the other thing is that this movie production collaborated with Elton while they were performing and as a result the details are very much accurate and felt. It just shows how much respect they have for this amazing artist. Yes Bohemian Rhapsody was good but they should’ve delved more into Freddie’s life.

DeanoPiano well actually Rocket Man isn’t considered a biopic due to the musical nature, more as Bohemian Rhapsody was a biopic, but I do agree that this movie was shot beautifully and captured aspects of his life wonderfully, but considering the contrast between musical and biopic, I don’t think one can be better than the other considering their both extremely different, but yes, this movie was beautiful.
