Hello tarot people! JQ Gordon here! I wrote this! RootsAndWaves, we were SO excited to see your flip through. Thank you so much for sharing our deck with your followers! Wanted to chime in about the card stock. At first, shuffle, I THOUGHT THE SAME THING! Believe me, we went back and forth on it for ages when we were making this, because I am super fussy when it comes to card stock, as well. My personal pet peeve is actually cards that are too THICK. They are so hard for me to manage. I have several recent decks which I adore, but the stock is so thick that I have to break it into several groups to shuffle, and they even feel a little bit brittle and awkward. I also teach tarot to a lot of teenagers, and considered them in deciding about the card thickness. So this was very important that they were manageable, as well as compact for travel! Though it breaks my heart, I am going to sacrifice one of my cheat sheet cards and do some strength testing. I'll dip it in water, fold it, rip it, bend it. Heartbreaking!! But I think it will be worth it. I think the coating actually makes these cards very durable, pliable, and smooth, which should lend well to long-term use, not to mention for using these cards outdoors, which we very much encourage! And YES, we very much want user-feedback to consider for future printings! I will for sure get back to you after my experimentation! THANKS EVERYONE for the love and support! Super excited for this to reach your hands, and I hope you all enjoy using it as much as we enjoyed creating it!

I appreciate your full flip-through ahead of the release. I have mixed feelings, but I anticipate this joining my collection. I *love* love love seeing this much diversity in an outdoor themed deck -- diversity of skin tone, body size, age, I see all of these and appreciate it tremendously. I love the artwork, love the backs, love the subtle nod to national parks, and love how this would look in a spread. The cardstock looks awful, and some of the artwork doesn't seem to really align with the card meanings, but I feel like given how much I like about this deck, I could work around these challenges.

Hi Laura! Thanks for stopping by. I agree with everything you share here in your comment. I have had more time to sit with, and utilize, this deck since I filmed this video. Despite the thin cardstock and lack of symbolism in some of the cards, I have still been enjoying this deck. Because some of the cards stray from the actual card meanings, I think I may use this deck as more of an oracle deck. I'm still playing with it and getting to know where it will fit in my collection and practice. I'm excited to hear what your thoughts are once you have a chance to get to know this deck! Wanted to also chime in about some of the card meanings, particularly the suit of BLADES/SWORDS! So, I have always found swords to be tricky, and maybe you have too. If you lay out the swords suit from the RWS deck and read it like a little graphic novel, I have never liked the fact that to me, at least, it seems to depict a story of two feuding kingdoms who go to war to solve some kind of problem. And to solve this problem, they use weapons to fight each other. The victor, even though they win the battle, is full of regret and heartbreak, lamenting "what have I done??" That's obviously totally in a nutshell, but that is my interpretation. I know everyone has a different style! So, a couple of things. Years ago, I actually switched to using Marseilles style decks more often. I liked the fact that I'm not looking at depictions of violence. And it clicked for me that I had MUCH more success in readings by looking at the swords suit as a suit of "how could we use our leadership skills to solve problems?" BEAR WITH ME! "How can I be a leader, use my organizational and management skills to come up with creative solutions to problems?" It was problematic for me that every other suit followed a similar trajectory, using pretty basic ideas, from Ace-10: You get an opportunity, make choices, communicate, take a break, have challenges, learn from mistakes, have faith and patience, work, come to fruition, then come to a conclusion/outcome. Super basic, right? So why was the Swords so dang negative? Why did all the choices lead to tragedy and heartbreak? Why couldn't I look at it in a different way? This of course is all VERY much in a nutshell, and I am eager to hear if people have similar experiences! The real big takeaway for me about swords is that, Hey: I do NOT use weapons to solve problems, period. So why would I want to use weapons as an analogy in tarot, which is a most sacred space? I DO, however, use *TOOLS* to solve problems, and I use leadership and negotiating skills. So that is what I did in our deck! I love that in tarot, there is so much freedom for a variety of reading styles, and I am really hope that my style will click with some people and maybe offer a different point of view! 💜

I came back to say that the quick guide at 3:45 shows there are some differences between what I think of as the typical Air and Fire associations, with the Sticks (Fire/Wands) including things like intellectual pursuits, ideas, and education, and the Blades (Air/Swords) including things like leadership and authority. I'll have to watch again to see how much those differences come through in the artwork or not.

I like this! I've been eager to see more outdoorsy decks hit the market. And I am tickled that they included a park in my home state, Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The Star and the Hierophant were my favorites in this deck, but I really love the art in general. And although the cards are clearly very bendy, the overall deck thickness doesn't look as thin as some others I've seen and held, so I'm wondering if the cardstock is thin or just extra bendy. I like that it's supposed to be durable. I don't think I'll mind it. Fun find!

Is it just me or do all cards look just "we're enjoying outdoor activities" no matter what card it is? I mean nothing against seeing a good thing on everything but generally it seems to me like just a bunch of pictures (yes, wonderful and beautiful pictures, that's for sure) assigned to the cards? Like Sword suits is usually get as a bit... not-so-positive suit but here it seems like "yay, let's enjoy winter sports" Also lots of the pictures look a bit similar (that's just the impression after watching the flip through I wasn't counting or anything so I can be totally wrong but-) like - few pictures of a tent in the woods. Several pictures with people on (in? sorry don't know the correct preposition)... canoe? kayak? Several pictures of people hiking. They are different - like people look different and there are different angles and so, but they kind of feel the same. If you know what I mean. (but as I said it's just the impression after watching the flip through once) The art is really wonderful indeed though! And the theme is great :)

Hello there!! ☀️ I actually hear what you are saying. As I mentioned in the video I did have a quick chance to “play” with the cards during a live last night. The readings, for the cards I pulled, seemed to fit. However, when I revisited the deck again (after this flip through) there were some cards where I was wondering what the correlation was between the image chosen and the meaning of the card. I agree, the artwork itself is beautiful and initially what captivated me! But now I would like to go back through the cards and examine them a bit closer in terms of symbolism and meaning. I thank you kindly for sharing your thoughts here! Thoughts, perspectives, opinions are always welcome as I believe that’s how we learn from one another. Perhaps a future follow up video is needed to dive a little deeper into the deck. 🌲🫧🥰

I agree with your comment about how so many of them seem to just be people enjoying nature. If I took the titles off the minors, I would not be able to correctly identify over half of them based on the illustration. The art is so gorgeous, but it just doesn't convey the card meanings to me, sadly.
