Tarpon are the most incredible gamefish. Moved to Fort Lauderdale a few months ago and was lucky enough to hook several on the beach on artificials and got to grab the leader on one. Only negative is that I’ve been ignoring the opportunity to catch more snook cause I’m more focused on the tarpon 😂

i want to catch a Tarpon from my Kayak. What beach were you fishing at? Can you list what your rod and reel setup is?

It’s a really seasonal thing. For a week all the tarpon moved through and now they are pretty much gone again. Soon the minnow run should start and they will come back to the East coast of Florida. I use a Daiwa BG 5000 size reel with 500yds of 40 pound braid. The rod I use is a Heavy 7ft Offshore Angler Ocean Master rod. Any super heavy spinning rod should work if you are just trolling live baits.

Just a bit of advice never let two people contol the fish, your mate should of never touched the rod or line, thats how the fish was lost.

I agree, it wasn’t ideal. You can’t see it on the video, but there was a big storm coming. We didn’t have another option at the end

Ik🤣. It’s not ideal but it’s the only option when the tarpon are out far. I’ll use an anchor like Joey does next time. It will definitely help
