"The Scarp II is large enough for 3 consenting adults." (head-to-toe) I've modified my SCARP II: 1.) Crossing poles shortened and run iNSIDE the fly, anchoring on the grommets sewn on just above the PitchLock struts for maximum stability/strength. Double-sided Velcro loops around the poles sewn inside the fly at the exterior Xing Pole attachment points. 2.) Heavier duty main pole from "Tent Pole Technology". 3.) More fly stake loops sewn on the hem.

Great video, I purchased the tarptent scarp 2 last year but only had it up twice but definitely holds its own against the hillibergs, its huge inside and I'm 6'2 and got loads of space . Have got a few holidays booked at work in late February and March so will getting out as much as I can putting it through the British winter

It is a beast of a tent. I'm going to play around with it more without the crossing poles to see what it can handle in it's lightweight mode. The tent is very toasty and solid during winter though so I'm sure you'll have a blast! Enjoy :)

I am really interrested at the Slingfin Portal 2 cause it's more lighter. I have an Shit Weather Tent, with huge vestibule with 45x15 Cm Packsize, 2,8Kg and one of the best Nylon (GorLyn). IT can handle 100Km'h sidewind and 130Km'h frondwind without lost in room. Bach Apteryx is nice, If you don't need an alone Standing Tent. I Love IT for Kayaking, but for some routes, you need an alone Standing Tent. Or If you want Go hiking with better weight and Packsize, then the Portal 2 without makin any compromises. I Like the scarp, the Soulo or Southern Cross, but they are to heavy and Packsize isn't okay. Nö Question, Most of the best tents. But Look at Bach or Slingfin, they are in These League. Bach bombastic strong Nylon and Slingfin ultra light and strong for heavy winds.

Thanks for the comments! They do look like cracking tents and both worth consideration. I'm sure they will excel over the scarp in a lot of situations for sure. Another couple of things I didn't mention in the review which make the scarp attractive are: -the price (relative to other tents) -you can pitch the outer first (this is sooo important for rainy British weather, no soggy inner tent 😅) - The versatility if you need just one tent. It can be free standing, weigh 2.2kg (with crossing poles), 1.7kg (single pole), 1.2kg (if you ditch the inner). I still think the Scarp is one of the best all round tents if you can only choose one. That being said, if I lived in a different country with a different climate I may have opted for something else.

@@a.harrison_outdoors9810 for the Portal you need the Groundsheet, than u can multi pitch. I looked at the Terra Nova Southern Cross, really a Bomb Shelter. But too much weight and Packsize. I Look at the scarp, it's better than the SC, the wheight is middle okay and Packsize too. Okay the Nylon is thicker and that is an opinion in GB. The Portal wheights 1,3Kg, have Guylines inner for stormresist is totally waterresistant and have a wonderful Packsize. That would be my next. Now i have my Apteryx and i Love IT. I am Sure, you Love your scarp too and is IT a wonderful Tent. But when we Guys are on search, WE want all the top notch 😅

Great video bud Just a little question did you get the tent from the US ?? How were the import prices etc 😊
@a.harrison_outdoors9810 Жыл бұрын
Thanks 😊 and I actually got mine second hand from someone in the U.S.. It can be hard to say what the import taxes will be as it will depend on the price of the tent and the strength of the dollar to the pound. There are some import tax calculators online that can give you an idea but Ive found importing is really hit and miss, sometimes you pay more or less than expected and sometimes you dont even pay anything at all! I would say that I think the import tax would be around the £100 mark or more at the moment. Sorry i cant give you a better estimate.

Thanks! Is it the 2 man or 1 man version you're after? Both are great tents although the scarp 1 will be better without crossing poles. If you're looking at the scarp 2 it may also be worth a looking at the big sky chinook. It's very similar and was on my watch list at the time I got the scarp.

Hey there. Great review, thanks. Very detailed. Which ground sheet are you using?
@a.harrison_outdoors98102 жыл бұрын
Hi, glad the review was useful :) I’m using a cheap groundsheet from amazon, it is a little on the heavy side (about 300-400g). It does the trick but may be worth looking for something lighter if you have the budget. I know alot of people use polycro/tvyek sheets which are light and cheap, but these make s bit of a scrunchy noise. Link to my ground sheet is here, also worth noting this ground sheet doesn’t cover much of the porch space: Outry Waterproof Multi-Purpose Tarp - Tent Stakes Included - 3 amzn.eu/d/8f1qmcv

Very good review - like your attention to details - what do you think of the weight 😄
@a.harrison_outdoors98102 жыл бұрын
Thanks, there's quite a lot I probably missed out but happy to answer any questions. The weight is really good for a 4 season tent (but with all the pegs and guy lines plus a ground sheet it is closing in on about 2.8kg). The most comparable 4 season tent is the MSR access 2 which I don't think is as strong and nowhere near as big. If you're going to be camping low down and want ultralight then I'd maybe consider a trekking pole tent like the xmid 2p or tarp tent stratospire. One thing I didn't mention is the pack size. The corner struts mean you cant pack this very small so that can limit what fits in your pack also. I just got a lanshan 2 pro for calm weather lightweight adventures but the scarp will still be my go to tent. You can get the scarp and trekking pole tent for less than a hilleberg which gives much more versatility with very little disadvantage.
@hanskirk-hiking96972 жыл бұрын
Thanks I will consider the tent - I agre that the weight is reasonable for a 4 season tent.
@kjhu462 жыл бұрын
Did you replace any of the pegs? How many guy lines are you using?
@a.harrison_outdoors98102 жыл бұрын
I added the 4 optional guy lines. The two at the sides are really needed to support the arch pole if the wind hits the tent side on. I use the two guy lines on the front to wrap around my hiking poles and down to the ground, in order to help tension the flysheet and give more space between the inner and outer tent, to reduce condensation. I also replaced the pegs to an unknown brands versions of the MSR groundhogs. These have worked great for me and suit a wider range of soil types. Hope this helps :)
@kjhu462 жыл бұрын
@@a.harrison_outdoors9810 Thanks for that. Do the front and back guy lines work without poles? I don't use hiking poles at all.
@a.harrison_outdoors98102 жыл бұрын
@@kjhu46 they do to an extent, but they will pull down to the ground opposed to lifting the fly further from the inner. They will help with rigidity of the tent and stop the fly flapping as much. To be honest, if you use the crossing poles, the front and back guylines arent as necessary, the side guylines are the must. On the new scarp 2 the side guylines are better than on mine which I think is great, as wind hitting the tent side on is the weak point of this design (as it is for most tents).
