Great idea. Quick question though because I know alcohol is used to extract stuff say for vanilla extract. Have you looked into or tried or thought about trying to use alcohol in some nature to extract the scent from the hair my understanding is that the alcohol would evaporate off so you wouldn't have to worry about the smell from that

Good question, I had not thought about using alcohol. Hot water works well for removing the oils. I may have to tinker around in the future. Thanks.

I believe I know what you are talking about. The actual gland is not being used in this process. What is being used is the lipids and urine the buck produced and stored on his tarsal glands.

How long you can keep the tarsal gland lure in the refrigerator before it spoils?

I use it all season without a problem. If you have more than you will use in a season just put the extra liquid in a ziploc bag and put it in the freezer. Then thaw it out as you need it.

How long can this setup keep for? Meaning, if harvested this year, can they be used next year? Or do they spoil after time?

If you have more liquid than you will use in a season, or you want to make up some for next season, instead of bottling it. Put the liquid in a ziploc bag and just place it in the freezer. Next season thaw it and put it in a bottle. I only bottle what I think I will use in a season. It will eventually go bad if just kept in the fridge.

@@Makinggutpylz Awesome. That’s good to know. We just got a spiker, but season ends next Sunday. So if this is something that can last until next season, I’d be down to try.
