I have a Lawn Boy Mower that I bought 50 years ago. I bought it in 1974 when I bought my first Home and still looks new because I washed it after every mow. It is a 2 stroke, but I like it because it is very light. The only thing I did is I replaced the spark plug. I do put premium gas in it. It runs great and starts on the first pull. Now at 68 I am glad I kept it.

I like your kind of story. Getting value out of your power equipment. Keep using the premium. Avoid ethanol. Fuel system problems with marine and small gas engines due to ethanol makes up most of the problems my mechanic friends deal with.

That's neat, I can remember cutting my Grandma's yard every summer with her 2 stroke Lawn Boy. Wish I still had it because it was light as heck.

2 strokes are awesome. I haven’t liked crap ass 4 stroke jokes since the late 1970’s. 2 stroke Detroit diesel engines are the greatest engines in world history. Lawn-Boy mowers are some of the if not THE greatest mowers ever built as well! And they all sound awesome! 2 strokes TRUCK, 4 strokes SUCK! 👍🏻😆😆😆

It's a great tip to keep the head fins clear. Every year I clear grass from my Krohler heads, without Taryl's advice from years ago I would have dropped guides in that motor. The shrouds are a pain to remove, but worth it when I see what lurks in those passages.

I remembered the solenoid fix video you did long time ago so I revisited it, made notes found a solenoid on an old junker mower, and it fixed it right up! Starts every time! Back on the day Chrysler had problems with the exhaust guides dropping on the 3.0 Mitsubishi engine. We used to cut a grove on the guide with a special tool and put a snap ring on the guide to keep it from dropping. You could probably do the same thing with that guide. The snap ring we used was a wire type without the holes for snap ring pliers.

I have the 22hp version in my JD LA135. Every year, after leaf cleanup is over, I remove the fan shroud and blow everything out with compressed air. Then the tractor gets a bath and I jerk the deck off and install the snowblower. Every 200 hours I adjust the valves. I have inspected those guides the past two valve adjustments and so far, no movement. 830 hours on it so far and it still runs great. I also added drain and fill plugs to the Tuff Torq transaxle, so that gets changed every 100-200 hours with Mobil 1 synthetic 20w-50.

Hi Taryl, I watch you channel, I'm from Downunder and I had a shop. but it's exactly as you say !!!! There are no longer parts available and the classic ''this is no longer available''. The parts have no quality anymore [ parts are made by the Chinese, ] B/S used to be American. I think they get others to make there parts same with Krohler. Victa. here GONE Lawson/Kirby = Tecumseh over there. Ans Honda It was time to shut shop, B/S should of never got rid of the L shape head engine [flat tops] It's sad that the game is over They just want you to buy a new one over and over again There is no pride anymore of quality Cheers

We had a host at the first place I worked at. I was a cook at the local restaurant when I was a kid. My mom worked there and got me the job. There was always cup flying off the drying rack and breaking. On night I went down stairs to fill the ice bucket. I set the scope in the top of the machine and as I went up the stairs it fell off and was laying west off from the machine in the floor. I told the little girl I worked with that I’m not going back down there. She said that she was certainly not going down there. The building was built before the civil war in the little town in perryville ky, might of heard of the battle of perryville from history class. We called him Sam.

My opinion, is the consumer buys the least expensive products they can find and if companies want to sell their products. They have to cheapen them up to compete with the least expensive ones. Unfortunately, this means the the products are becoming throw away products. I'd rather pay a little more and get a better product, but 30 years ago when I was young. I ether bought the cheap stuff or I didn't buy anything. I think there are a lot of people in that situation now.

Fluffy had a nedt built in mine the size if a half loaf of bread . So I put s stud in the engine block so the tin could be removed .Fluffy does some damage, but fortunately this engine was not run and overheated.

I had serious problems with mice for a few years in my garage. They were all over the place, building nests all over the place. Turns out they were feasting on the grass patching seed I had stored in a plastic bag buried under a shelf. Threw that out. But the worst problem was , I got my Summer car out for the year and it didn't run right. Checking around, I took off the air cleaner and found it was packed with a mouse nest. Got all that out, replaced the air filter, and it ran good again.

Rodent wasted 2 hours of my time with my 13 year old Craftsman power washer which has a Briggs lawn mower engine. I had just used the power washer a week ago and it started up on 1-2 pulls as usual. I pulled it out and it started on 1 pull, but it was running extremely poorly, with chugging, almost like misfiring. I check compression, then I checked the spark, then I pulled the carb to clean it. Reassembled and same thing. Then I noticed all these grass clippings under the heavy duty metal air shroud.....mouse had crammed all sorts of clippings in the shroud and caused blockage between the ignition coil and fly wheel. Cleaned that out and it started right up. Wasted so much time.

Proving that good maintenance and keeping the cooling fins and air filter clean, as well as the whole machine clean after every use is my 2007 Cub Cadet GT 2550 with nearly 500 hours. Has a vertical 22HP Kohler Command engine which gets new oil and filter at the end of each season. Still the original belts and tires. Sense this machine is shaft driven, the only belts it has is from the PTO to the deck spindles. It also has the cast iron transaxle which also gets new fluid and filter every two years. I am not willing to spend the large amount of money it would take to replace this machine with a new equivalent. I also use non ethanol fuel along with Sea Foam in all my outdoor power equipment which keeps the carburetors from having problems while in storage. When watching Taryl Fixes All videos and a machine is dropped off to be worked on, and it is fifty, it makes me cringe.

You're right Taryl, I have a riding mower with an 18.5 hp Intek Break's & Scrap'em engine in it, and every time I finish mowing, I use my Stilch leaf blower and make sure the whole engine, mower and cooling fins are blown off. I also change the oil and oil filter every other year, and the mower is a cheap one from 2017, and still runs strong, and good compression etc. I changed the oil and filter on it when it was new after about the first 10-15 hours of use, then the next season, but now it seems to be well broken in and the oil still looks clean after 2 years of use so I just change the oil every other year.
