Had this exact same snowblower at my parent's house when I was growing up. My father slipped while he was clearing the sidewalk, and managed to break his foot. He had the safety switches bypassed and a weight on a rope that he would sling over the drive lever so he could walk next to it. The thing took off up the street by itself and ran into the neighbor's flower garden. I found out that day that snowblowers have a deep-seated hatred of roses. The destruction was impressive.

@FourDollaRacing Yea. . . Most of the people his generation are gone, surprisingly many from old age. If you can, talk to someone who is in their 80s or 90s and ask them what they thought about bicycle helmets or putting seatbelts in cars (not even mandatory laws, just installing them in the first place). If you want a real eye opener, take a look at what manufacturers were advertising you could do with a radial arm saw back in the '50s.

I worked at a Wards from 1974-77 and was mostly based in the garden shop. Such a great experience for a college student to learn lifetime skills. Gilson products had stock numbers beginning with GIL and the MTD products began with TMO. We sold a 2-cycle MTD blower, but most mowers and lawn tractors were MTD. We offered a large garden tractor for about $2 grand, and to my knowledge, I was the only one that sold one. We were 4 miles north of Detroit.

My friend has the same machine. That machine was well loved and cared for. Lubed every year before being put away. He probably checked the gear case oil level and auger bushings yearly. . There were very narrow metal wheels that mounted where skid shoes went on some old blowers. There really isn't a blower made today that has cast iron gear cases and brass bushings for the augers, as can be seen in your last video. It represents a real value to it's next owner, and may outlast the other machines on the lot. Rods rather than cables that always rust up. Neato daddyo shirt in the style of Ed "Big Daddy Roth"'s Rat Fink. Poppin my fingers and digging the groove gettin down can you dig it. ah wooo. Thanks.

My 40yr old Honda HS55 will go you one better on those brass bushings with actual BEARINGS at all points in the auger assembly. As far as I know those bearings are the ORIGINAL (made in Japan) parts. Why people would not wear safety glasses or a shield, is beyond me. It only takes a minute to protect your eyes. I had a friend who passed recently who only used eye protection sometimes. When I was around when he was working without glasses, I would ask him why he did not use them. He said they fogged up. I told him , at least he could wipe them off. But when you lose an eye, there is no wiping anything off. All I could say to him was weer glasses, but he was stubborn.

You need tire iron/spoons that have a fatter thicker end that won't cut the tube ...and i add air to slightly inflate the tube ( not too much but enough that it is more visible )..this makes it easier to see as you work your spoons/irons ..also baby powder can help on your tube ...and put soap on bead of rim and on both sides of the bead area of tire too. . on stubborn stiff tires this can help alot. . and clean up the bead area too as any roughness can make it a battle 🇨🇦🤓🤙
@mattdudley3789 Жыл бұрын
Taryl, I’ve changed hundreds of tires by hand. What I found is that doing the small ones on a manual machine is harder than on the ground by hand.. spoon the tire into the rim., with the rim being on top of the tire. So much easier. My family had a few Gilson Monkey wards snowblowers when I was a kid. They were all 8/26 tho. A couple different models that were slightly different from each other. But I had 2 identical. They never blew snow great, but they always worked good enough to get the job done.
