Ys III - Wanderers from Ys is the third installment in the Ys series, taking place three years after the events of the first two. Unlike the previous two's top-down perspective, this game is a sidescroller.
In this run, The8bitbeast ( tasvideos.org/... ) beats the game in record time via the use of a glitch to give the player maxed out stats. For more information, see the submission comments ( tasvideos.org/... ).

I forgot that Ys 3's "item get" sound is basically Metroid's.

gaminggoddess85 yes, but the Metroid 2 item get (the definitive one) was made after the 1st Ys game

They are similar, but as ikagura alluded to, Ys I (June '87) had it before Metroid II (Nov. '91), by over 4 years.

First time I've seen the Genesis version after playing the SNES version to death. I must say I'd rather have played this version to death instead.

I'd say most of the SNES version music doesn't come close to being as good as the Genesis version. The sound chip of the Genesis is just much more suited for most of the music this game has (and for rocking tunes in general... also for techno and other music requiring a lot of bass). The Oath of Felghana soundtrack also sounds much closer to the Genesis version.

Now the glitch I read claims it works before any level up but I think it only works on the first level. But if you use the FINAL blast from the amulet on a screen of enemies that grants you enough exp to level up, it causes you to get max stats (gold, xp, level, etc). I've found it ONLY works with being level one and it doesn't work for anything after. So that means swinging an invisible underpowered "sword" and dodging almost entire 1-hit-kills to get just enough XP to use the amulet 3 times. It sucks. Been trying to incorporate this glitch into a normal speedrun as I've been wanting to run this game.

Does this have to be played with BizHawk 1.10.0 only? as I'm seeing glitches on 2.8.0 and lower, when it's at the part with the statue, it glitches out.

It might. There have been sync changes since then that tend to break older input files.

And with the exception of Redmont/Sarina's theme, the Genesis soundtrack isn't as good as the SNES one to me. Neither of them beat Oath in Felghana's remixes though.

BARF. Nah, to each their own. The SNES has it's own strengths with the sampling capabilities. I'll admit I'm partial to the genesis cause I grew up with that rather than the SNES.
