[TAS Test] Binding of Isaac: Wrath of the Lamb

So this is TASable now! Done with ruffle nightly 21-01-2023 and libTAS 1.4.4, though I needed to switch to the newest interim build of libTAS to get a proper encode.
The initial plan for this TAS was to unlock and clear the chest, but I realised my initial item build plan wasn't all that great and I had issues manipulating the RNG I needed, making a lot of the decisions made in this TAS very unoptimal. I decided to continue and get the first ending just to gain more understanding of the game and hopefully the RNG and how to manipulate it better in the future. Hopefully a proper TAS of this soon.

ive been yearning to see a repentance tas to be possible, and this scratched that itch for now, i'd love to see a tas that goes to chest

that was the original plan and I'm definitely interested in doing it in the future! just taking some time to figure out the build/route I want to use, since I'm starting from a fresh file I would have liked to try repentance too, but it seems like that's the only one of the dlcs that's not actually on linux weirdly enough? linux being necessary to actually tas it, unless the game were to be modded to add tas tools, which is also a valid approach but not one i would take

@@rythin yeah repentance isnt supported on linux, not sure why i'm also quite surprised that nobodys made modded tas tools yet you could try wine actually, but if that doesnt work the next best thing is probably just doing afterbirth+ if thats possible, cause im pretty confident that works on linux

does brimsnapping deal damage every time u input a direction?

it needs a couple frames to play the anim but after the first active frame you can press a direction for 1f to reset it. a regular brimstone shot does 2 ticks of damage but i've been able to get up to 5 with brimsnapping

soo... how hard would it be to make a tas for 100%?

Currently impossible. ruffle, which is the emulator that makes this possible, has a bug where killing the blighted ovum doesn't kill the little ghost, which softlocks. You need to kill all the bosses for 100%, so that's out of the question until the bug is fixed.

Tool Assisted Speedrun. Essentially, you can go in and do frame by frame inputs to have a theoretical perfect run impossible to achieve by humans

It stands for Tool Assisted Speedrun/Superplay, it's playing the game in a deterministic setting, with the ability to slow down and rewind time in order to select what input is made on each frame of gameplay. This allows for making perfect inputs, manipulating randomness and so on. In this case, this is a TAS Test meaning I played the game with these tools, but did not optimise the replay for either speed or entertainment, but rather just played around to explore the possibilities and get familiar with the game in a TAS setting, to hopefully produce a better TAS in the future.

TAS stands for Tool Assisted Speedrun, I used a tool to play the game frame by frame, allowing me to theoretically make perfect inputs and manipulate RNG within the possibilities of the game. The video is a TAS Test, meaning that I used said tools, but didn't spend the time to get the perfect run. Mostly just played around with the game to see what all is possible, and uploaded the run to showcase it. Proper TASes of the game are in the works, but will take time of course.
