TASCAM DR-60D Recorder for DSLR Filmmakers

TASCAM's DR-60D is a portable recorder designed from the ground up to be the ideal recorder for filmmakers. The design of the DR-60D contains a tripod mounting screw on top and socket hole on the bottom, integrating perfectly with DSLR cameras from Canon, Nikon, Sony, and others. The camera output attenuates down to mic level before passing the signal to the camera to prevent distortion.

Great review but I do have a question if you could answer it. I have two Sennheiser G3 receivers that I want to use for both talents. Can I hook the two of the Sennheiser receivers up to this unit and have the two artists audio appear on the video? Thanks in advance

Hello. I just got the tascam DR60 mkii myself and I used it once. After that I have 2 questions: 1. I use it with RODE Videomic (NOT the pro version) and i find it pretty quiet. I have set the gain to HIGH and turned it to max on the front pannel. With this settings I get just about -20Db max (normal conversation).It is said that -12Db is optimum. When I use the videomic with DSLR (Nikon d7000) it is definately louder. 2. I use it with an external battery power supply (great idea by the way!). But I do not use any AA batteries paralelly. The thing is - every time I turn the device on, it asks me to set date and time again. Is it OK? A friend of mine who has another version of tascam says he never had to set time and date again even if he changes batteries or so..

Can someone help me please, i use headphones to hear what im recording, but when i put in my computer the music only comes in 1 headphone?, is there something i can do to solve this on the tascam itself.

I do have a good camera, so many options on it i don't know how to use it. I tried to take a camera class when i was in school, but they told me 2 years in a row they was full. So i never got a chance to learn how to use cameras. I can use them good enough how i taught myself.

I've had a problem with the original Tascam DR-60D not working with Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries, even after changing the battery settings in the menu. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know of a workaround?

It records on it's own to a card. Juicedlink doesn't record. seems to have more inputs as well. Built better for sure (also bigger) and buttons like preamps etc are all accessible easily instead of being underneath the unit.

Gain is manual, it has a level limiter on the inputs should the gain be set too high. It also has Dual Mono or Dual Stereo modes where it makes a backup recording at a lower level. Soundkit co uk expect stock in mid-May.

TheAzraelCrowley That depends heavily on the budget you're on, and how "tech-savvy" you are. I myself use a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (mainly for RAW), and I'm pleased with the results. It does require a little more work than a normal DSLR, but the images are divine. You can pick one up for $1000. If you're just staring out, I might recommend a Canon camera. They are easier to use, and there's a wide range of lenses available for them. Their top model, EOS 5D Mk III, is very good, but quite expensive. The EOS 70D costs about the same as the Pocket Cinema Camera, is easier to use, and delivers acceptable image quality for the web. If you want to shoot in 4K, both the Panasonic Lumix GH4 and Blackmagic Cinema Camera (not Pocket!) are very valid choices. But as with all cameras, you will need a good lens to get good results.

great videographer type features but the design of this is too bulky.. it should be lower profile.. if they put XLR's at opposite ends of the unit and a small LCD at the back right under the camera LCD it could be all of 4cm high and much nicer to mount under the camera.. Id rather have slimmer design and a few menu layers for controls than lots of dials/buttons.. Once your audio is setup you shouldnt need to tweak things much..
