Certainly easier than sending all channels out via sub and back in to bounce down in real time (although i may still do it that way if i need to make fader moves etc during the mix). Useful to know how to move tracks so quickly too.. i dont have to unplug cables anymore ! Thanks for this vid

Hmmm...so I could record 8 tracks, & combine them to one stereo channel. I wonder if I can record more tracks & then combine those onto the other stereo channel to get even more tracks. Most of my music is pretty basic punk/hard rock & I've only ever overdubbed guitar & vocals, so it's not even necessary for me. That's why i got the 12 instead of the 16 or 24...but I'm gonna try that tomorrow just to see what I can do. That's awesome. I didn't even know about that... Thanks

Yes it's great! You can build up quite a lot of tracks!! Have fun!!

Like I said, I don't do a lot of different tracks; just overdubs of guitar & vocal tracks. But this might give it an even fuller sound because before I had been recording on a Tascam 424mkiii that uses cassette tapes. 😂 So it was very limited @@GlennThomasTech

Glen - Can multiple individual tracks be bounced to the internal storage to transfer to the desktop via usb.
@GlennThomasTech3 жыл бұрын
If I understand your question - in theory, you can bounce back tracks - summing them together until you run out of tracks to use as the “clean track. ” But I think you’d end up with summed tracks on the SD too. Hope that helps!

Thanks for this video - When you bounce 11/12 back to 9/10.... It is not letting me "Stereo Mix Export" How do you get this off the machine though the SD card as a Wav? I am trying to avoid using a daw all together for bouncing band rehearsals to wav files. I am gettin an error message that says "Main File error"
@authenticoriginal15643 жыл бұрын
I am having the same issue and error message, have you been able to figure out what the issue was yet by chance?
@GlennThomasTech3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay on this! To stereo export the mix there needs to be content on the main buss (11/12) so that said, after you have done all our bounce backs, added all the tracks you want, and mixed the sound as you like, you must then record your final mix back onto 11/12 by pressing record and letting the song play back with no tracks armed. From there you should be able to export your stereo mix! If there is a reason you don’t want your final mix on the main buss, you should be able to pull the “final” track out of the 10/11 folder from within the MTR folder on the SD card. Hopefully this helps! Thanks for watching!

@@GlennThomasTech What are the chances of a video walking through how to set up the M12 to route back to the daw with the same tracks that were routed to it from the daw? I use Logic Pro, Pro Fools, and Ableton pretty regularly, so I understand that the daw may be the limiting factor for routing signal in some cases. Honestly, I saw a cool video Recording & Mixing With Solid State Logic's BiG SiX Desktop ...www.youtube.com › watch › v=89pElzLfEYs on the SSL Big Six being able to route signal back to a channel of the daw more like a traditional console does, but through USB, and I have to believe that the M12 can use the same workflow with the "USB" routing back into the daw "post-eq" right? I understand the value of getting the dry signal to the daw for editing and processing in most cases (when using it as an interface anyway), but I am also interested in using the M12 eq and compression to send signal back into the daw wet sometimes. I see the option in "mixer" to change the send point, so I think I am close. I just cannot diffuse those last few synapse in my brain to make it come alive, lol. I have been like a mad scientist in my little studio trying to figure out signal flow and how to best route the individual channels from my daw, through the mixer to process, and back into the daw for further processing and summing. Thanks for any help you can provide on that man, and thanks for the great content!

@@authenticoriginal1564 Really cool idea for sure! Are you thinking something like what i did in the reamp video - where i sent a channel out of ableton into the tascam and then back into ableton on another track? I LOVE doing that - so much to be had there! So many cool possibilities for processing This is the video i'm talking about: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoXdi3aZp5WehJY IF that's not what you're saying, can you elaborate more? I don't believe it's possible to both send out to a channel on the tascam, and record back the changes from EQ and compression on the SAME channel ... but now you're making me wonder!! I'll be looking into that for sure! That would be amazing if it works! I too have been a mad scientist with this thing ever since I picked it up! I love the model 12 and have had so much fun with it recently! another thing i do is tie mine in with another fully analog sound board for more mixing fun! As you've worked with the Model 12, what's been some of the bigger confusions, question,s or pain points, around it? I'm considering doing a more structured video series on the M12 and would love some feedback that way! Thanks for watching! Let's keep some conversation going! 👍

Is there a way to duplicate a project before doing this? In case I do all this bouncing and dont like the result for whatever reason, can go back and fix something ?
@GlennThomasTech3 жыл бұрын
Great question, Tyler! There isn't a function on the model 12 itself to duplicate a file or song - but hook it up to your computer in storage mode (or take the SD card and put it into your computer) and you should be able to open the MTR folder and duplicate things in there! The Tascam won't see the duplicated song because it didn't create it, but should something go a direction you don't like, you should be able to copy files back into the original song folder... hopefully that makes sense and is helpful! Good luck and enjoy recording!! 🙂

The Main Bus on my Model 12 stopped recording tracks 1-10 when I hit record so I have no main bus. I have checked all the message boards and triple checked everything.: PFL/AFL, mute, MTR, Main buttons, Faders, Solo, etc.) Could I have tripped something in the menu? when bouncing tracks 1-8 over to 11/12.. does it always record (sum/bounce) everything on tracks 1-8, or can I, say, not have whats on tracks 7&8 be included in the bounce to 11/12? i heard that just pulling down the faders on 7&8 wouldn't work if theres something recorded on them. -is this true? said another way, if i have tracks 1-8 full of material, but just want to bounce/sum tracks 1-6 together (without including whats on 7 & 8) is that possible, and how would you do that?
@scooynilo Жыл бұрын
I think if you just mute them they aren't be recorded

Yes, you can unpress the 'main' button on any channel you don't want to bounce - it won't send that track through and the recording won't include it.

Hey hey! Looking into buying the model 12, just one thing isn't clear to me looking at manual and forums: is the SD/DAW recording post-fader? can i do a mixdown and move channel faders and it'll be recorded on 11/12 or on each channel or is it all pre-fader? either way this looks like such an amazing piece of gear. Thanks for this video!
@GlennThomasTech2 жыл бұрын
Great question! Sorry for the delay! Yes, recording to 11/12 is postfader! That enables you to "mix" your song down to a final stereo file. The Tascam is such a great desk! Happy Recording!

TThanks! Question! Can we bounce the content of certain tracks to 9/10? I mean, let's say i recorded instruments on track 1,2,3,4 and then, an acoustic drumset, 4 mics on 4 tracks ( Tracks 5,6,7,8). Can i bounce my drum mix of tracks 5,6,7,8 onto 9/10 as a stereo mix? Just to free up 5, 6, 7, 8 so i can add more instruments on them and have them new intruments play in sync with my previous intrument tracks1-4? So i would have tracks 1-8 with instruments and my drums on 9/10?. And everything playing in sync?
@GlennThomasTech Жыл бұрын
Yes! The way to do this would be to record the drums, then sum them to the master buss -11/12. Do this by playing them back and recording it to the mains WHILE having the tracks you don’t want summed MUTED. From there move 11/12 back to 9/10, clear your individual drum tracks and you’re ready to record more instruments!! Hope that helps! Thanks for the question!

Take a look here. But just remember to have the tracks you don’t want summed muted or turned all the way down. kzbin.infoSdOsFGgeM0Y?si=bFHYjbbz7XXjsUGa

Thanks for this-- your walk-through was helpful. I'm curious if this mixdown sum operation can be performed multiple times, e.g. "sound-on-sound" to channel 11/12 (main) in an additive manner? Example: say you've recorded onto ch 2-4, bounced these to 11/12, then cleared ch 2-4 as described. If you then record onto tracks 5-6, can these new ch 5-6 tracks be bounced (summed) to 11/12 in an additive way, over the top of what was previously on 11/12 so as to combine the music from chan 2-4 with the music from chan 5-6, so that now channel 11/12 contains (all 4) of these original tracks, prior to bumping them to chan 9/10 using your example? I ask because there doesn't seem to be a discrete involving clearing chan 11/12 in any examples I've seen. Thanks again!
@GlennThomasTech2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Joe! to my knowledge, every time you sum to 11/12 it overwrites rather than overdubs. - but! you're close in your thinking.... You should be able to record 2-4 -- sum to 11/12-- clear 2-4 --- record 5/6 -- Move 11/12 (summed 2-4) back to two empty channels -- record all of those back to 11/12 (summing 2-4 & 5-6) -- Copy the summed 11/12 back to 2 clear tracks... etc etc. --- Hope that helps!
@JGlassy2 жыл бұрын
@@GlennThomasTech Thanks much Glenn, you've provided a great re-cap and explanation for how this indeed works. It also confirms for me the huge opportunity lost (thus far) by Tascam's Model 12 designers; they could have supported this needlessly cumbersome "shell game" action via a 1-step overdub action, by just adding an "Additive Sum/Overdub to 11/12" option via firmware. (e.g. first privately auto-write the current 11/12 to a private scratch buffer to a protected file area on the SD card, then immediately 'tee' the newest selected track additions, together with the private scratch buffer contents, right back to 11/12 in one step). Sigh. I'm definitely hoping they'll add this sort of 'Additive Sum to 11/12" option via a future firmware update. They certainly already have all the raw mechanism, and access to on-board storage available, to vastly reduce the cumbersome workflow required now to do this common operation.
