damn, i’ve had the model 12 for over 2 years and had no idea it was capable of live mix recording. Didn’t know you could arm channels 11/12. thank you

This makes so much more sense now... I have been recording live shows with the model 12 and I loved that it recorded a stereo mix along with the multitracks so that I can manage the live sound with the main fader, but still record the mix at a constant level. I am always moving around the individual faders for a live show as dynamics change and it gets dialed in, but it never affected that stereo mix it seemed, and this answers that completely. I honestly use that summed stereo mix as a kind of parallel compression type element once I have the mix finished (this is all in the box at this point). Now, I realize that I was just lucky that I never touched that button to switch it to post fader, lol! RTFM, right? Thanks for all of the help, it's really a brilliant little console that keeps getting better with time thanks to regular meaningful firmware updates. Thanks again for all of the content, and thanks to all those who comment with answers as well. What an amazing community to be a part of.

Nice tutorial! Part 4 of this tutorial closes a chapter of the story but there is more to explore: with a printed mix in your hands you can decide to go to "master" it; or use it as a guide for further overdubs going well beyond the bounds of 10 tracks (while staying "DAWless"); or just decide to produce several versions of the mix from the same recorded tracks, then cut and edit them on PC as once it was done with reel-to-reel tape recorders. I find that the Model 12 is a creative laboratory in many aspects, small in appearence but powerful.

Thank you so much for explanations. One question though: When I want to send the master to my DAW via cables (not USB) which output would you suggest I should use? AUX1, SUB or MAIN. In my case the output of my TASCAM 12 would be connected to my PUSH 3 inputs. I planning to record each channel of my mix sequentially to my PUSH 3 and Ableton Live.

So, I purchased the model 12 as a result of watching your video series. Now I have a question. Since the model 12 is a digital version mixer, and the model 16/24 are analog mixers, will I be able to drive the master output section harder to the point of saturation on the models 16/24, or will they distort at 0dbfs metering like the model 12? I will upgrade for true analog saturation, if that's an option. Thanks,
@RecordingStudio9 Жыл бұрын
Normally you would “drive” the input signal for saturation as outputs go to speakers. This also depends on the design of the preamp.

Hey, since yesterday i cant find out why the "master section EQ" (that in a right corner) on my Model 12 have no response. I actually broke my nerves with this... I think it happened when i played one record from PC through TRRS to 9/10 channel, but thats probably just coincidence? Dont you know where could be problem please? I would be really grateful, cause it makes me sick. 😖 (I have the machine just 2 weeks, so its brand new..)
@RecordingStudio911 ай бұрын
The master EQ has on/off button to engage and affects only the XLR outputs and the USB ch 11/12.

When the EQs, Faders etc. get printed to the master mix 11/12, can the solo buttons record in live automation as well?
@RecordingStudio94 ай бұрын
Yes, but this depends on the Solo function setup in the menu.

@@RecordingStudio9 Thanks! Can “Mute” on each channel do this as well when printing?

Hello Vatche, After mixing my song, I am unable to have a response regarding volume control with the “SD Main Mix Return” switched on(red light is on). No volume is increased or decreased on the Main Bus. I am not sure if all of my tracks are on 11/12. Also, I am using headphones when doing all of this. As you explained in your video about 6 minutes in, I am unable to replicate what you did. Please help. Also, one other question. Regarding the Meter Screen. When I am recording a song, the Output Meters(green, orange etc.) does not match the levels that show on the MTR meter panel (gray screen). So my result was that my vocals recorded too low when mixing, if I adjusted my levels according to the green meter! Because I did not want to clip. But if I raise the levels when mixing looking at the gray panel levels(the middle line on the gray panel)the vocals are good, but then it shows that my levels are in the orange and just “kissing” the red levels on the Main meter? Both level meters are not synchronized to get an accurate result. Any thoughts? I must say that you have the best videos on KZbin for explaining the Tascam Model 12 functions! Thank you very much!

Thanks for watching. One thing to remember is that the channel levels shown on the display are the recording levels, whereas the LED main displays are the levels of the main bus. When recording, use the gain knob of each channel to record levels reaching the line on the display for guide. When mixing, use the main LED levels for good levels. While recording, you can have good recording levels but can have your main fader down and this doesn't affect each channel's recording level. You can also use the Pre-Fader button that ignores the main bus fader level. Hope this helps.
@vicmerle5711 ай бұрын
@@RecordingStudio9 Thank you very much. I did not know that. I am still learning how to use the Model 12. Any thoughts about my first question regarding the SD Main Mix Return? When you have time, I would appreciate it.

Thanks a million for all these model 12 videos! One question please, how do you assign the line in signal going into, for instance channels 1 and 2 to 3 and 4 or to any other two channels? In live mode in other words if my keyboard or synth out left and right are physically going into channels one and two, how do I route the signal to any other channels instead? Without physically hooking the input to those channels? Thanks. All of this is because I am trying to record tracks by over dubbing into other channels one by one from the same synth. Unless channel record modes have overdub feature on model 12? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You!!
@RecordingStudio9 Жыл бұрын
Thanks. There is no input routing option. One way is to record onto CH 1&2 and swap (Menu->MTR->Swap Track) and copy to other channels.
