Hi Dennis, I just love this video series. I remember when I was at music college we used the Tascam Porta two to record demos of our ideas whilst writing songs. It was a great time back in 1988, and your videos bring back such beautiful and fond memories. So Dennis my dear friend thank you for doing what you do. Us older guys really appreciate it. My Tascam Porta 05 ministudio project is almost complete now. I am restoring it back to its former glory. I'll be very sad to see it go, because its a lovely little machine. Kindest regards my friend. Paul.

Country Sky Studio Thank you for your kind words...I actually have lots of fun making these videos. Stay tuned, there’s more to come: more tutorials, more 4-track models :)

This is every piece of vintage gear ever. “So here’s how this works” followed by “Why the fuck didn’t that work!!?” Good times.

One thing I noticed..when you bounce tracks 1,2,3 to track 4...I believe you should be PANNING tracks 1,2,3 all the way to the Right...since Track 4 is on Buss R.

Country Sky Studio You’re right, all three tracks should be panned hard right. Though in this case it doesn’t matter much, since the bounce is a mono mix that captures anything that’s centered or right. As long as the 3 tracks’ panning positions are equal. But perhaps hard right might give you better audio quality, because it practically eliminates the potmeter underneath (less electronics in the signal path) Thanks for commenting!

@@MultitrackCassetteFans If you panned all to the right, you wouldn't have had the low level issues when bouncing to track 4.

@@MultitrackCassetteFans Track 4 is Right, when bouncing, all other tracks need to be panned hard right for the volume level to be the same.

Cole Jester Thanks for watching, good luck with your own recordings...please post them on youtube and let me know 👍

Why didn't you just record the drums to just one track all at the same time from the computer? When you bounced those three tracks to one, there was a hell of a hi end loss

Hello Dennis does the DBX NR help with the tape hiss on the Porta One model?. I've found that I can achieve really great results using the DBX NR, which allows me to boost the treble frequencies for a good clean sound. I never record without it. My 488 MK1 has a great performance, bearing in mind it is a high speed machine. The sound quality is just awesome for analogue. It bounces really well too with no noticeable drops in sound quality. Kind regards. Paul.

I haven’t tested this out myself yet, with vs. without NR. I guess it depends on the material you want to record

Yes Dennis I totally understand. I don't know what it is, but I just much prefer my analogue multitrack recorder, I love that warm tape saturation too and I really enjoy the work flow also. I also use a great large diaphragm microphone to give that nice full bodied sound to acoustic guitar or vocals. To me I think it keeps me young because well over 30 years ago I cut some of my own songs that way, and the sheer joy of listening back to the finished product was something that will always stay with me.

@@MultitrackCassetteFans I recently watched a Les Paul documentary about track bouncing. He described it as literally burning the bridges behind you as you progress with your recordings. I love that aspect of using these machines. Because it forces you to make careful decisions about how you want your recordings to sound. May I ask you what your favourite four track machine is?.
@MultitrackCassetteFans4 жыл бұрын
Exactly Paul, bouncing forces you to develop some sort of “vision” on your project. I love that aspect, too. My favorite 4-tracker is the Tascam 244. What’s yours?

Hi do u remember the length of the mic cable you used in this record?
@henion93 жыл бұрын
I am asking because I have got a problem when I try to record with a microphone, the signal is just too low
