Tascam Portacapture X8: Overview of Control App and Recording Modes

Hi, I recently purchased the Tascam X8 including the Bluetooth Dongle. I'm happy with it but I expected that it would be possible to download audio files via Bluetooth from the Smartphone but I don't see any dedicated command. This seems like an important omission to me

my question is why people are not talking about the BT adaptor more! The Tascam DR22 wi-fi connection is SO bad! I really want to like the thought that this configuration will actually be reliable!

This video would have been more beneficial if it would have walked people through the Bluetooth setup via the Tascam settings and then their phone before "connecting" to the app. This video makes it sound like all you have to do is plug in the adaptor and hit connect on the app.

Plug in dongle go into “other” settings, turn on Bluetooth. Launch app. Hit big connect button on app Done

My personal opinion is that you record with no add ins. If you want that, then you can play with the track in post

There is no ability to transfer files wirelessly from the X8, it has to be done via cable

Hello. My name is johnny, I'm Brazilian and I love TASCAM. I currently have the MODEL 12, DR40 X and am testing the portacaputre X8 recorder. I need help, because I like to record content directly on my iphone and both the model12 and the DR40X, I can record videos directly on my iphone using these devices as an interface. therefore, I can capture performances with the audio ready. on the portacapture X8, I can make 2 channels via usb, but only using the audios from my iphone and entering the recorder (iphone being the sound generator), but in reality, I wanted the opposite. I wanted to plug in my synthesizers and receive them on my iphone to post videos. can you help me? thanks.

Nice job. With the Presets for music with reverb etc are they available across the 4 XLR inputs as well as the 2 front Mics? - That could be a deal breaker if you can't.

Reverb can be applied to channels 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 or across the whole mix

I just bought portacapture x8 today. Looks like my BT adapter is not working. there is no blue led light blinking. also mobile app can't show the device. :( is there any way to test it?

Can I use this as a multitrack recorder? Does this only make real-time recordings? I want to make recordings of myself playing several different instruments. In other words, I don’t want to erase something I have recorded, just add to it.

Hi Matthew, The X8 can record multitrack however the song will be limited to 6 tracks, and it cannot overdub. if you connect it to your computer and DAW it functions as a multitrack interface and will allow you to overdub via this method (if you need more than 6 tracks)

The Portacapture X8 can simultaneously record up to eight audio tracks in total (six individual tracks + stereo mix). Select which inputs are recorded on which tracks, apply noise-gate, compression, EQ and reverb like you would do on a mixing console.

@@Noisegate thanks - that is simultaneously recording several instruments at the same time; but I was hoping it would be able to over-dub so I could layer different instruments on top of each other like a DAW. I guess not. Thanks for your reply.

@@entysax Yes you can punch in and out, but to do overdubs you will need to use a DAW

@@entysax I can’t believe this recorder doesn’t do multitrack overdubbing. It has so many capabilities but the ability to do overdubs is what would make it truly useful. So many attractive features and functions (mid/side, phase invert, reverb options, the various presets, the ability to record from many inputs all at once), but they’re only good for the first take … and then you have to transfer them to a multitrack recorder to go any further. Frustrating and inexplicable.

@@slacktoryrecords4193 Agreed - this is 'nearly' the ideal recorder but the lack of overdub/multi-track recording is really frustrating. I don't use mine any more, for that reason.
