Tasman Ocean Rowing Boat Construction

Tasman Trespasser 2 to be used to row from Australia to New Zealand in January 2010 by Shaun Quincey. In 1977 Colin Quincey Shaun's Father was the first man to row the Tasman Sea solo and unassisted taking him 63 Days and 7 hours from Hokianga Harbour NZ to Marcus Beach Queensland.

Made of plywood and fiberglass? It must be really heavy.

Not if the ply was 3mm

it's not 3mm and yes it would still be really heavy if it was 3mm m/ply just because of the shire quantity.

Strength for strength there is almost no lighter way to build a boat than wood. Epoxy laid glass on top doubles the strength. You need to go to really exotic materials to do better. Source: Gerr the Nature of boats, Vectorlam, my own calculations and build.
