Nice Cliff. Plenty of nice rivers in the north east Tas, there’s a lot of rocks between good gems out there, you need to work for them, but they are still there.

@@VintageTimeGems Hope you enjoyed it, I would recommend the west cost if you didn't go there already, its where the majority of mining has been done and there is some interesting rocks to be found that are quite different from the rest of Tassie, it also isn't as commonly visited as (for Tasmanians) it is quite a long trip.Visit us again soon.Looking forward to the next video's.

Absolute abundance of black spinel in the NE rivers, however I like the unrelenting blackness it provides. You'll have a hard time finding good quality sapphires large enough to facet though, most are quite small. You really need to spend a decent amount of time exploring the river systems and venturing to secluded spots that haven't been touched recently and just try your luck. I know you like Topaz, a trip to Flinders Island would be a good trip for you. They have good topaz deposits there, and the clarity of the material is very good. The locals say it's the highest clarity and hardest Topaz in the world, however, they are probably biased. Cheers.

Hi Lewis, yes I have a feeling finding large enough sapphires to facet will be difficult to find in Tassie. From the small selection I found they were small and bombs. Other fossickers were also finding bombs. Lucky I like topaz. I think Flinders Island would make a great trip.

@@VintageTimeGems is a fossicker a prospector ? I spent 3 weeks on Topaz Mountain in Utah , USA last summer . I collected eight 40 ounce peanut butter jars of Topaz , it was everywhere even on the ground . I saved some of the clear crystals bleached in the sun , thinking I might try heat treatment for fun and education . I found a ton of topaz but I was really looking for Red Beryl

I am excited about when you will mine the gems. I am a smoker, are you permitted to smoke on the deck of the ship?

No smoking on the Spirit of Tasmania. Although I did see a few people smoke a few outside.
