We have peach and apple orchards where I live in the north west corner of North Carolina. Many different varieties of each. Fresh ripe peaches are the best thing ever. Most the orchids have their own store where you can go buy them fresh during harvest season in the fall.

Warm peach cobbler goes well with either whipped cream or frozen custard. My grandmother made peach cobbler every month or two.

The secret to making a good peach cobbler is getting the right peaches. My Dad taught me to use Freestone Peaches, they are strong in peach flavor, sweet, and not hard. Our town never ever has them fresh, but they do get them in the cans. I always clean them before I put them in the cobbler. Not all the peaches have been cleaned properly. When I say "cleaned" I mean that not all the stringy center hard center portions were removed. So I remove them before I prepare them for my cobbler. There are many types of "cobbler" but we prefer our cobbler to have lots of delicious peach juice in ours. I have seen some people's cobbler looks like someone made a cake batter and poured it over fruit. That is why I say there are many types of cobbler. One that I saw and really liked looked like a peach soup with strip dumplings in it (I'll bet it tasted very good too). The way you two love cooking and trying new recipes, I wouldn't be surprised to hear Mr. H has opened a Barbecue Restaurant!

hey if burnt is the best part, burn that thing. Mrs H respectfully, iirc peaches are best overly ripe or as we call them raggity ripe in baked dishes they use to sell raggity ripe peaches in a can just for cooking. this rule of thumb works with many baked goods as a way to use up fruit that's over ripe. like when bananas have gone brown you mush them up and make bread

Living in Washington State I have learned there is a big difference in peaches. Most supermarkets sell canning peaches last longer, firm and not quite as sweet. We enjoy dozens of sweeter varieties locally from farmers markets but they ripen extremely fast. 🇺🇸💙

The best peaches are grown in Palisade, Colorado. The hot days and cool nights make 'em extra sweet.

In America, custard does not go with fruits, such as peaches As much as I like ice cream, I have never had a peach cupboard with ice cream. But hot blueberry pie or cobbler on a scoop of vanilla ice cream is absolutely heavenly I haven’t had this in many many years now I am tempted to buy some ice cream and blueberry pie the next time I go to the store. 🥧

I say no to custard, and I realize I am in the minority, but I don't like Ice cream on any baked goods, because I feel that it overwhelms the flavors (or flavour)

Vanilla ice cream on top of hot cobbler.Try it.The meltiness is amazing as it soaks in.Also next time sprinkle some coarse sugar over the crust before baking .Should help with tart peaches.

I know most people like ice cream on their peach cobbler, but I prefer to put heavy ctream on it. It mixes more thoroughly with the peaches

Yes custard would work. Do anything you like. Its your kitchen. 😂

There's no bad time to make cobbler. Sny fruit will do. If you can get your hands on rhubarb, try a strawberry-rhubarb one.

You cannot get sweet peaches in the u k where do the peaches come from. I know there are many vegetables and fruits that the US ships to the U. K, I'm not sure about peaches.

Please don't ever put custard on any American dessert. It's just... wrong. Nothing against custard in its proper place, but don't cross the streams.

IDK abt ‘wrong’, but the texture & flavor might clash w/ the cobbler.

I may have overcooked it as it was our first cobbler, but I now understand that is more "sloppy" and less of a cake as you spoon it out and not slice it. Would you agree?
@mildredpierce450618 күн бұрын
@@BritishFamily a cobbler should be a two crust affair (top and bottom crust), deep dish as it is supposed to be juicy. Not necessarily thin juice (some people put a little cornstarch in the peach juice to slightly thicken it) but it should not be solid. It is something you serve in a bowl and not on a plate. I haven’t looked at your video yet, but I definitely can say that I commend you because you try to be as accurate as possible. I have more than once recommended your channel to another British channel who tries to make American foods and they have failed 100% of the time. They do not look at videos on how to do the recipe correctly and they don’t measure. It got to the point to wear. I do not watch their cooking videos anymore and I literally automatically give them a thumbs down because they don’t read comments suggesting they watch videos first. People ask them where did they get the recipes from because they make no sense the way the person is cooking it. Anyway, sorry for the rant. Continue to grow and explore.
