David Nail sings "Forgiveness" LIVE and proves why he's one of country music's most under-appreciated vocalists and storytellers.
This acoustic performance was inspired by a friend of David Nail's who he couldn't reach out to at a critical time in her life.

David Nail, "Forgiveness" Lyrics:
(David Nail, Donovan Woods)
I can't lie / It's hard to hear / After all we shared / After all these years / I don't know / What I'm supposed to say / What I'm supposed to feel / Seeing you this way.
Chorus:
I wish I had the answers / To all the questions in your mind / I wish I could say it will get better / But I can't look at you and lie / I know I've had my share of troubles / So who am I to give advice / But if you ain't found forgiveness / Seems like now's the time.
There was a time / You could have called / I would've dropped everything / To break your fall / But times change / Like people do / And the times we had / They have long been through.
I wish I had the answers / To all the questions in your mind / I wish I could say it will get better / But I can't look at you and lie / I know I've had my share of troubles / So who am I to give advice / But if you ain't found forgiveness / Seems like now's the time.
I-I / Say a prayer for you / I-I / That's the best that I can do / I-I / Smile and say goodbye.
I can't lie / It's hard to hear / After all we shared / After all these years.

I’m obsessed with the album version of this song. I was washing my truck when this played into my headphones. I abandoned my truck and spend two hours figuring out the three string triads and the picking pattern on my guitar…then I played along with the track another 20 times. I have not been moved by a song like that in…well ever.

David has been my favorite country artist since his debut album. He is the best and should have won multiple Grammys and CMA awards by now. He is a brilliant songwriter and hope he stays genuine and never sell out for the formulaic hollow commercialized pop faux country crap that is today's "country" music.

His live performance might actually be better than his studio recording. What a powerful voice. And I'm not even a fan of country, but this song has been on repeat since it first came out last year.

I Love David Nail. i was learning the song Red Light, right about 2 days before my sister passed. she loved me singing david nail songs to her, it was the only artist that i listened to that she agreed with, considering i listened to nickel back and all. she was a punk rocker. but David Nail songs just seemed to sooth her. i sure miss her and wasnt able to sing Red light to her ;(. Thank you David for the inspiration!! I'm with you to the moon and back!!

Devon, as a writer myself, I couldn't agree more. I have lived this and felt I could have written it. The only word I would have changed myself is "Cry and say goodbye", instead of smile. All I can do when I listen to it is cry. The melody in it's utter simplicity, the lyric, his heartfelt delivery of his own song all go into making this perhaps the most beautiful song I've ever heard, and that's saying alot. As much as it tears me up, I can't stop listening to it. Thank you David for such a song! Your name means "beloved" and you are by those of us who are fortunate enough to know you and your music!

ChrisTopher...me too, I lost a "friend" who was so much more than that. He was only in his mid 50's when he passed, I had lost touch for a number of reasons and didnt know till years later when I ran into a mutual friend and he told me what had happened. I was devastated when I found out but couldn't really show it. When I heard this I was simply in melt down mode. Still am. All I could think about was, this was the song that said so much of what I would have had I been able to be there for him. I know many, many people can relate to this song. So many times artists and record producers and radio, shy away from songs like this cause they think they are "too heavy". But that is not true. In fact just the opposite, I think it's the songs that move me most that I am drawn to like a magnet! I sense you and many other of his fans feel the same! I am so glad David is not afraid to "go there" to the deep places!...Blessings!

From TOC's article: "I always tell people depression, mental illness is something I deal with on a day-to-day basis. But the difference is, now I know that it's not this quicksand that I'm going to be in for three, four, five months at a time." That's exactly what I've come to know as well... !! I'm grateful for everything I've put into healing mine. 2007 college until today, and the month's are now certainly much brighter and less foggy than they were in say 2012. Truly. So grateful for just how brave you truly are. Imagine just how many lives your story might touch... truly

My 19 year old daughter just told me to not contact her anymore because I won't affirm her choice to identify as a he/him. This is a girl that has never exhibited any masculine traits in her life! This song cuts deep but I'm praying that her heart will turn to the truth soon and she will accept my forgiveness. Brooke turns 20 on Father's Day and I would appreciate your prayers for healing of our relationship.

It does get better! I have struggled with addiction as well as loved someone, and still do love someone who also has an addiction problem. I had to start loving them from a distance and I constantly pray for them. I have been sober 3 years now. I can tell you that the line I wish I could tell you that it will get better, but I can't look at you and lie. What is really meant by that is that he's not going to lie and say that your problems are going to get better is that he's tired of fighting for things to get better if you can't fight for it yourself. In other words it's up to you to get better. Much love to you and whatever it was that you are going through. I Promise you that it DOES but you have to have the fight to make it better. 💖💖💖

I don’t know what to say? I feel sad and worry you and your wife have troubles, that hurts me deeply to think as you’re a beautiful couple, fits my relationship with my brother as well, I’ve almost given up playing guitar and singing it’s to easy to listen to you. When I played I felt like a jukebox (background noise), cut awards were on last night everyone glued to every note and word, yea they’re very good, I am too so are you I think you hear me,blessed we are some more than others they don’t understand we can’t help it we do it even if they don’t listen, it puts bandaids on our soul.
