I live in the UK and would like to buy Parfianka or Wonderful but the shops here only seem to sell generic (unknown) pomegranates or a French variety called Provence which doesn't have the characteristics of a wonderful or parfianka.

Unfortunately, there are lots of rules to sending scions to the UK & it is very difficult. I would try Etsy, Ebay & then nurseries.

Great review! Are Erin and Sweet soft seeded? I just had my first from my tree Parfianka this year. Delicious. I have small plants of Ariana, Desertnyi, Gissarski Rosovyi, Kazaki, and Vkusnyi. I been pondering which ones i should put in the ground. Knowing the early season of Desertnyi it is a must plant for me now. 😁

WOW! That's quite a collection! My relatives are growing Salavatski. Hope to try someday. Yes, the Erin and the sweet which I assume is either a Sweet or Eversweet both have soft seeds.

The Russian collection from Dr. Gregory Levin interests me quite a bit. I never had any of them except for Parfianka, lol. I will need to source me the Erin from Laguna Hills as I did not know that was soft seeded.
@growyourownavocados Жыл бұрын
@RichsTopGardening Yes, Levin's collection is amazing! Erin's seeds were not as hard as Wonderful. They didn't stand out to me which is why I would say soft. It was my first and only one I have had and the only one on the tree. I would ask Gary Matsuoka to be 100% sure.

@@RichsMangoGarden Eating a Parfianka now and yes the seeds are very similar to Erin. I think the hard seeds are usually with the cold hardy poms like Salavatski.

Rats ate all mine this year, I have Wonderful, Parfianka, Desertnyi, and Ariana.

Yikes! Sorry to hear that. I left out gum as Gary Matsuoka recommends and it worked.

Where did you get your Ariana? That one and Angel Red are on my list since watching the IV Organics tasting video of 12 varieties. In order of votes on that video were Desertnyi (3), Angel Red and Parfianka (2 votes each), and Ariana (1). But Ariana sounded particularly bursting with flavor.

Where do you live? I live in shingle springs ca. Was wondering if they grow well here
@growyourownavocados11 ай бұрын
I live in Brentwood. I first caught the fever when I worked Napa Valley and saw quite a few there. I don't know your exact climate or conditions but Dave Wilson has a video of different varieties in Winters so I imagine if they thrive there they should thrive in Shingle Springs.

Glad to hear your watering regime (2 gallons each, once a week). For the high desert zone 9A where I live, I don’t seem to have it figured out yet. All mine split too soon last year AND this. ☹️ Oh well; they are in ground so hopefully their root systems keeps growing so maybe in time they will be able to compensate for any errors in watering that I make! Or I’ll figure it out eventually.

A pomegranate orchard in Oakdale waters every ten days. I was doing that too but decided every Sunday is easier.

They say that splitting of tomatoes is caused by inconsistent water. If the fruit is starved for water and then swells from too much water, that’s when the fruit will crack.
@growyourownavocadosАй бұрын
Appreciate the feedback. Also when they hang too long they will split. I still have some for this season. When I don't take them down in time then they split.@kathleenebsen2659

I've only ever known two varieties. It's cool to learn there's a whole bunch out there the same as avocados and figs. Are they all more or less equally hardy and easy to grow? I have three trees between the sidewalk and street and want to plant another three. Tough growing conditions but I'm improving the soil. Also, im In San Diego.

Nice weather in SD! From what I can tell they all grow fairly similarly. I water twice a week when young and then once a week when they start to produce. From what I have seen they are all pretty tough and will grow even when neglected. One year I dry farmed them and the Parfianka did very well but the Sweet's fruit all cracked.
