Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. A great resource for us in the valley, and elsewhere I’m sure.

One of the best videos on pomegranates out there. Keep them coming

Thank you, I shared this with our FB group as I am doing a raffle later of the Desertnyi. And the other varieties sound nice.

Soo interesting. There's hardly any pomegranate taste reviews about different varieties. A very authentic review. You've inspired me to do a multigrafted pom as well. Was looking forward to sirenevyi.... Otherwise 👏

Thanks! I just ordered a Sirenevyi from One Green World. I have a spot for it in ground. That one sounds so good!

Thank you for sharing, I’m now thinking of grafting to one of our wonderful variety pomegranate trees.

After seeing your video, I top-worked my two pom trees (mislabelled Parfianka and Wonderful) with Sireneyvi, Linda (HarveyC's seedling), Desertnyi, Vkusnyi and Parfianka on one and Gissarki Rozoyvi, Ranni, EverSweet and UtahSweet on the other. I think Desertnyi and UtahSweet failed but others are growing well. Hoping I see some fruits next year. I left a branch of Wonderful intact - if I let the fruits on the tree until Dec here in coastal CA, they take on a vinous flavor which I really like

Impressive collection! Next year you should get a good harvest!

I hope they fruited for you in 2023! After harvest (if you read this), please add your opinions!

Granada just means pomegranate in Spanish. Actually Granada's literal meaning is grenade in Spanish but you can see why they would call the fruit that. Likely just a Wonderful or a seedling of a common variety.

I am inspired. I have a pom wonderful and 2 of the yellow skin type pomegranates (I'm not sure what they are called.) The yellow skinned are sweeter. All seem to have hard seeds. I'll look for the softer seed variety scions to graft onto my 16 yr. old trees here in CA zone 9A. Thank you, Natasha. Are you going to prune your trees this winter? They look like mine that have never been pruned back.
@EnlightenmentGarden3 жыл бұрын
You are welcome! The soft seeded varieties are such a better experience when eating fresh out of hand. I am doing some light pruning now but will be doing a hard prune in Winter on most of the trees

Agreed. I have Wonderful and I swear I hated it so badly that I thought I'd never grow pomegranate again. It has weird tangy sweet griddy taste - yukkkkkK. This vid really change my mind, I'm gonna give it another try. Did not know there are better varieties with softer seed. Just look up, Dave Wilson here in CA sells a variety calls AC Sweet and Eversweet - I'm gonna give them a try next season.

It's a shame the big box stores/nurseries don't sell more of the better tasting varieties. Glad you found this video helpful!
@lindasilva6662 жыл бұрын
I see from your plant list that you have an in ground purple heart pomegranate. How does that compare to the Wonderful, in your opinion?
@EnlightenmentGarden2 жыл бұрын
I can't say as I ended up top-working it with parafianka before it ever fruited. It's a young plant. It's supposed to be much better than wonderful. Now that the graft is strong, I'll let a rootstock branch come up so I can get more than one variety.

Any updates from the 2022 fall season?
@EnlightenmentGarden2 жыл бұрын
No updates this year. I grafted on Pink Ice and Parafianka in spring and find that you don't get fruit set the same year when grafting pom especially with tiny scions like I had. My in ground Sireneyvi did not grow much. I am confident I'll have fruit off these in 2023 and can do more tastings. The Azadi, Medavyi Vasha, Desertnyi and Gissarskii Rozovyi continue to impress me.
@margaretmarshall3645 Жыл бұрын
I hope you do get to taste those two in 2023! You convinced me to graft Azadi, Medavyi Vasha and Desertnyi (along with Eversweet) onto a spare Wonderful rootstock that I had. All but the Azadi took, and thanks for the Fruitwood Nursery suggestion; I was happy with their scions and at great prices. But like you, no fruit this first season. Also my 3-year old in-ground pomegranate fruits here in high desert SoCal have been splitting open well before ripening this year! Not sure if I’ve overwatered, under fertilized, or let them get too dry between waterings. Frustrating.☹️
