Barry, I loved this collaboration with Sorted Food. You and Jamie worked really well together and had me laughing hysterically. You two should definitely collaborate again or have a show together. You're both a joy to watch. I love Lychee so would have been curious to try the jelly.

This was pretty fun to watch as a foreigner living in China. About that tea though, to make it properly you use about a third as much as you did and let it sit for a couple of minutes longer. Seriously a small bag like that is enough for about 4 or 5 cups of tea.

I love how you guys are so positive about the things you tried, even if you didn't enjoy it as much as you may have wanted to. Whereas in most videos of people trying foreign treats, they are a bit rude and offensive towards the food they don't like. I really appreciate that. And the video with Sorted food was a splendid collab! Very enjoyable. Well done.

barry is definitely imagining savoury-ness in the middle of the red bean cake. I grew up on that stuff and have never had one that i would remotely consider "somewhat savoury." Tbh jamie was a lot more open-minded about these things. &the lychee jelly! Omg. That explains my childhood in one go.

There's a brand of potato 'crisps' called UTZ here in the US. They have their own brand of crab flavor and it's like eating compact slivers of pure salt. No crab flavor, just mouth killing salt. It still pisses me off because I really wanted crab flavor and paid $3.50 for a bag of them.

Guess the tea would've been enough for 10 of your cups.And Chinese tea is never "clean" (my chinese friend explained it that way). You put it in little boiling water, drain out the water, then put water in again, LITTLE bit of tea.

Barry, I think some of your comments could be seen as slightly offensive. As a Chinese myself, I felt a bit uncomfortable with you saying "We're Chinese, we're crazy". Just cause you don't like it you shouldn't call the people who do crazy, and also who's to say that some of the foods in the UK aren't digesting to other people e.g. Marmite. Also it's important to say that not everyone in China likes all of these snacks. Another example being "By the buttocks of some angry Chinese man", this was the first video of yours I have watched because of Sorted, and due to how uncomfortable some of your comments have made me I will not be watching again. But I thought I should just warn you to be slightly more careful with some of your choices of words in the future.

Ben trained your taste buds well Jamie :D Good job for holding it in with all the orange peel. My mom used to eat the prune candies a lot and I never got used to the taste no matter how many times I tried it. Ah! Those egg rolls are my childhood! They're delicious and kinda sweet. I used to drink milk through them like TimTams :3 Also lychee anything is delicious xD (though I more prefer the actual fruit than the jelly now that I'm older) Regarding the red bean paste recipe it's pretty common in a lot of Asian pastries (Korean, especially Japanese, Chinese, etc.) and the bean used to make the paste is completely different from the typical kidney bean you guys are imagining (it's called adzuki beans, look it up!). I think it's more of a textural thing that tends to throw people off because it's not quite "melt-in-your-mouth" like chocolate and it's also not as sweet (at least in most cases). It's basically a paste of cooked red beans and sugar which is usually stuffed in everything from rice-flour based pastries (like mochi! look it up) or wheat based ones (like moon cakes! also look that up too). I personally like it because chocolate (at least in that amount) is a bit too rich for me and I like sweets on the less sweet side. Regarding the chestnuts...uh I've avoided those for good reason. I mean some brands are good are really get the cooked/roasted chestnut down (usually the better brands have them in vacuum sealed packages so it doesn't spoil as easily), but usually I tend to avoid them because I like the texture of freshly roasted chestnuts better. And lastly, gods the tea. PLEASE BREW IT LONGER. That was like a minute or two, definitely not enough time for the flavor to come through. Green tea especially does tend to have a grassy note to it, but depending on the blend it can bring some really nutty (kinda roasted) notes as well that goes really well with sweeter pastries. I'm actually surprised how many things you guys DIDN'T like here. Especially some of the milder stuff like the lychee cups, or the rice crackers or the egg rolls. But hey, you guys probably grew up eating sweets/snacks a lot different than what I've been used to eating so this was probably an eye-opening experience for you guys. On an end note, I would really give red bean pastries (maybe find an asian grocery store near you or a confectionary/bakery shop that sells chinese pastries) and green tea another try because they're a STELLAR combination together. Thanks for the interesting collab guys :)

the dried orange peel is good to relieve sore throat...just mix it with tea or hot water :)
@TriSinging9 жыл бұрын
the orange peel can only be made from a certain selected mandarin oranges. and the most famous place or the only place that produces the highest quality of dried orange peels is my hometown. people buy those mandarin oranges and then peel them, and throw away the flesh but some retain the flesh to make jam, or preserve them for sore throat remedies

Pity that you didn't find the green tea to your taste. Bi Luo Chuen green tea is one of my favorites. Given enough time and hot enough water for it to brew, it gives out a very unique aftertaste and aroma. It is quite refreshing, in fact. Usually, it is better to get some fresh Bi Luo Chuen tea leaves instead of the air-tight packs you have in the video. Nice collab BTW ;)

I love the fact that your videos contains many many snacks(encompassing a lot of the country's culture) & HAHAH i get so hungry. Anyways, I feel that Chinese food in general is not an easily acquired taste. People in asia grew up eating what you might consider exotic things (raw, alive, preserved) as compared to caucasians, who are more reserved and prefer eating things cooked. (:
