I’ve seen in his more recent videos dressed up quite casually yet still looks presentable, he probably just threw those clothes on at the last minute or that is all he had cause he probably had quite a bit of laundry to do! Happens to the best of us mate!

It seems like you got a really old box of snacks from South Africa. The chalk type of flavour is what happens when chocolates are old as they do not look like the ones if i were to open them now(no chalk flavour or appearance). Plus the Ouma rusk has to be eaten after being dipped in Tea or Coffee. The Eet-sum-mor biscuits also looked old.

One of my favourite thing to do in other countries is try their snacks. I found out years ago that a lot of confectioneries are formulated for the climate theyre in. North european chocolate has tons of milk so it would melt and sour in hot weather! So a flake in ireland and the uk tastes completely different to australian, american or south african cadbury!

"Marie" ("Maria", "Marietta", "Mariebon") biscuits are literally British "rich tea" biscuits. The "named brand" was released in 1874 in British Empire and Russian Empire in celebration of princess Maria Romanova's (Emperor Alexander II only daughter) engagement to prince Alfred (Queen Victoria's second son).

Their chocolate has to survive higher temperatures than ours, so will contain things like paraffin wax and other ingredients to make it more shelf stable and less likely to melt at room temperature. Thus making it more soapy/chalky/flavourless. There used to be a mint cracknel bar in the UK I think in the 70s/80s and it wasn't like that one in the video. It was more like a mint flavoured dime bar, or daim or whatever it's called now, with a slightly green toffee with chocolate around it.

@lewe666

No, our chocolate is just normal chocolate. The chalkiness seen in this video is not normal and most likely due to age/storage conditions during shipping. We do have higher temperatures, but generally ambient temp in a kitchen cupboard won't melt chocolate. I've dealt with many a melty chocolate bar though in the peak of summer but fridges exist to cool it down a bit.

That abomination called Caramello, from Cadbury in Australia, was reintroduced into the UK a few years ago. It was originally made in the UK in the 1950s/60s, and then production was stopped because it was not popular. Then, it was picked up by Cadbury down under. Quite a few chocolate bars went the same way. Cadbury's Tiffin is now only available in shops that sell food from the Republic of Ireland, where it's still made. Cost's around £1 mores than it does in Ireland.

I do think the choccies might have not survived the trip well (or the shop didn't store them properly) the Jelly Tot bar is also hit or miss quality wise (also just a sugar overload usually), peppermint crisp is ace especially if you can find enough to make a peppermint crisp tart :) The original flavour toffee I feel is like a marmite thing 50/50 love it or hate it, personally not a fan of it either (the cola flavour ones etc are quite nice, not sure if Wilson toffees and those Champion ones are the same tbh never thought about it much). Really really surprised that you didn't know what a rusk is, since it goes well dipped in coffee and tea I had this stereotypical idea that the Brits would have it as a staple. Not a big biscuit guy, don't usually ever buy the mini biscuits so can't comment on them, tennis biscuits usually buy the normal sized ones to make a peppermint crisp tart with. Cheers man, didn't expect to see some South African sweets pop up today :)

Rich Tea (with a bit of vanilla) are called Marie / Maria / Marietta, etc., pretty much everywhere outside Great Britain. The strangest part is they were invented (and named) in England.

I would probably love that toffee - licorice and caramel are two of my favorite candy flavors.
