I would imagine the atmospheric pressure is just what it says, the pressure of the atmosphere on that day. If you had a depression nearby, it could easily be 991 and would only change as the weather does. Well done for sorting it for your mum.
@samrodian919 Жыл бұрын
I agree with that! It says exactly what it does on the tin so to speak. It's the atmospheric pressure at that time at that location. It obviously compares something coming from the car as opposed to the outside atmosphere.
@turboslag Жыл бұрын
Yes, the ecu uses atmospheric pressure as a reference for all the pressure sensors and the correction factor for turbo boost pressure.

We had an old Brown Renault 5 on our farm and it lived for years and years and would not die. We put livestock in it, lambs and calf’s mainly. Hay bales, animal feed, vets, herdsman and so on. In the end we drove it off a ledge into an empty gravel pit, 30ft drop. When we got to it the engine was still running and it still drove (sort of). We left it in the pit and it has now lived in a 30ft watery grave for 35 years. Hell of a car and it still brings a smile to my face when I think of the scrapes we got into in it.

Hello - love your vids. I had similar issue with my wifes Mercedes C250cdi. Limp mode, check engine light on. Although I am pretty handy with the spanners, all my experience is petrol cars and I have always heard DPF issues are a nightmare so I was pretty annoyed to see when I plugged in my little OBD reader and got DPF codes. If this happens to others stop right there. Don't go any further until you plug in a decent scanner. Luckily I have an Autel 906pro. This revealed in fact that the code the little OBD reader gave me was correct BUT in fact it was two codes with the same 4 digit number but a 5th number giving more specific information. This pointed to a pressure sensor. On the Merc it is a differential pressure sensor so it has 1 electrical connector but two pipe unions - pre and post DPF to compare the pressure and establish when to re-gen. This was knackered. Changed that and like you was miffed that it was still in limp mode despite a few Italian tune-up's down the local Autovia. Then I came across "Adaptations" on the Autel. Went through that procedure - it learns the new values - and bobs your uncle, sorted. The good thing is that the 906Pro is accessible to most people - Snap-On brilliant but a huge amount of money. For a grand you can get a used 906 or 1500 new one. Its saved me thousands over the years. Greetings from Spain!

And this is why I always use the same garage for servicing and mot. They are fair and explain why they need to fail or advise what needs to be done. And never replace anything that doesn't need to be replaced.
@lint8391 Жыл бұрын
DPF probably didn't need to be removed from the car. All it needed was to fix the underlying fault that was causing the car to not regen the DPF. Which in this case was a replacement sensor plus telling the car the DPF plus sensors had been replaced / re-initialising them. And then maybe a clean with Launch DPF cleaning fluid with the DPF in the car. Oreilley's youtube channel has loads of useful DPF videos. It seems that there are loads of mechanics that are hopeless with DPF's. But they are actually quite straight-forward, once you understand how they are part of a system in the car.

Can't fault the choice of car - I've got a 2005 Grand Scenic that I bought as a very cheap runabout in 2018, before the electric handbrake failed, the MoT expired and I left it standing on my driveway. It was so nice I wanted to put it back on the road, which I did in 2020. Since then, in total I've spent £2,086 on parts (repairs, servicing and cosmetic improvements), and done all the work myself. I've thoroughly enjoyed doing it and learned quite a bit about working on modern-ish cars in the process.

I had Leon a few years back with a DPF, the guy at the garage told me about the potential DPF issues and his advice was 'thrash' the car in low gear at least once a week as it prevents potential clogging issues.
@turboslag Жыл бұрын
The pressure line from the dpf to the differential pressure sensor is the go to source of problems with a clogged dpf. The dpf itself may not be blocked at all but because the pressure line is blocked the ecu thinks the dpf is blocked. Of course the dpf may be clogged, but with a correctly reading dpf diff sensor the ecu may then allow a regen. You can clean dpf's yourself, just blow it out with a pressure washer and dpf cleaner. Little tip for moderately driven modern turbo diesels, use a fuel additive regularly and every 6k miles or so, use a high intensity diesel cleaner. I use Mannol ester fuel treatment on every other tank of fuel, it's 1ML per ltr of fuel, so very cost effective, and JLM extreme clean for the every 6k mile treatment, that is quite expensive at almost £40 for a ltr can, but worth it to keep carbon at bay. Also, it would be worth checking and cleaning the egr valve, it's very likely that will be well clogged to.

Renault are evil when it comes to repairs, they have always tried their hardest to make home repairs as awkward as possible. My first job was in a motor factors and Renault's and their oval plate numbers were a nightmare, two Renault 5's built on the same day of the same trim could have lots of differences such as one might have Bendix calipers but the other might have girling and one might have a Bosch distributor while the other might have a Lucas style. Of course I still bought a 21 Turbo years later which was a fantastic car apart from it's very militant french electrics.

Mot happened two weeks ago on my sisters Yaris 1 litre said I needed two new front suspension struts and coil springs, quote for work £780, went online priced new shock struts and coil springs separately £102.00 on Ebay for four parts ( Quinton hazel struts a and Napa springs), bought a coil spring compressor for £10 hardest part was getting the old ones off as the bolt were solid with corrosion took about 3.5 hrs all in to swap them out, I am no mechanic I have very basic skills but saved my self £660 there about it was not really that difficult TBH, went back for retest and garage passed it with an advisory on the front NS tyre the car had only done 5 miles since the MOT so why they never picked up on this originally ?They tried to sell me a tyre for £55 , I said no will take to the tyre centre and the guy there said nothing wrong with it 6.5mm of tread life no bulges cracks or tears, left the tyre on no point throwing away good money when not needed. if you have the tools and read up watching KZbin tutorials you can save yourself a packet. Wont use this MOT station again. TBH the old struts and coils did not look too bad just very light surface rust Thank heavens for YT and Ebay .

That's what its about saving money, my dad took his defender over to where he normally takes it, and they wanted to charge him 1200 quid to do a list of jobs, one was 200 quid to toss a bottle of injector cleaner through it, and a £1000 for a steering box, We were like where you getting those wages from?? The steering box only came to about 400 quid, he was putting £400 on top that, then £200 for labour. We took it else where and they moted it, They said nothing wrong with the emission smoke side of it at all, and the steering box was an advisory. I got in touch with a company who revamps steering boxes, and got his done for £200 quid. From the £1200 that the garage wanted to charge my dad, He managed to do the job for £400, and that was adding new pipes and PAS pump, So well under what the garage was quoting and wouldn't have done. Also my dad threw £300 at it for a new rad and fancy pipes. So it was all in for £800, £100 for the two MOTs.
