This is the seventh published movie of Mega Man 4 (ＵＳＡのロックマン４), played for the first time by Tiancaiwhr ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/T... ).
This movie improves the previous run ( tasvideos.org/1444M ) by nearly 2 minutes thanks to new tricks and glitches, as well as better optimization and lag management.

I like how the HP bar to a TASer is more like a "how many damage boosts you get" meter, since you can avoid all damage with ease anyway.

As if the Pharaoh Shot weren't already at a near-Metal Blade level of usefulness, I learned today that it's insanely good against any boss that isn't outright immune to it with how fast it charges up to do a guaranteed 3 damage. Dang, dude.

It's to make the weapon get sequence shorter. Normally Mega Man will walk to the center of the room from where he was standing when the boss was killed, then jump. By using the balloon, he skips this process.

Iv just clocked this game myself on the 3ds Megaman Legacy Collection in 2hr 17 minutes here in the year 2020 and thought to myself. I wonder how fast someone on youtube has done it. Someone needs to explain this one to me... How is it that, only NOW, after all these years, we somehow figured out that jumping into the weapon absorption zone will trigger it prematurely and save time? The Wily Stage thing, I can understand not knowing about, but you'd think someone would have tried the weapon get thing just for laughs at some point. In any case, amazing run, Tiancaiwhr!

From a development standpoint it would seem certain bosses like the giant Met are actually background tiles (since they are still there in silhouette when destroyed as the screen flashes.) Yet they move incredibly smoothly during gameplay. I would have expected them to shift abruptly to the next 16×16 pixel section. How did they achieve this I wonder?

You're right that they're on the background layer. The game uses the NES's background scrolling capability to move them smoothly (the same way the game scrolls from one room to another). This is the reason why the background during these boss fights is one solid color - so the scrolling isn't obvious. To complete the effect, the screen is split at the bottom using a scanline interrupt so the floor doesn't get scrolled too. Super clever stuff.
