The people who can beat the game are big brain, but the dev who actually had to make and cheese-proof the levels is absolutely galaxy brain.

a TAS of this game really amplifies just how well the game was made for its time: levels don't include useless space, puzzles have to be solved in the intended way, Visual and sound design reinforce each other and give the game that unsettling, but not threatening, feeling.
@SeppelSquirrel
@SeppelSquirrel 2 жыл бұрын
I was really impressed by it, too! At first I was confused as to why so many moves were required to make each position work, and it turns out it's because there are 27 different "orientations" of the block. Because movement back to the origin point in a single direction is 3 tiles, we have to account for all 3 orientations (standing, vertical, horizontal) per tile in a 3x3 space. This is also why a 3x3 space isn't enough to attain each orientation. You need at least 2 tiles' growth beyond a 3x3 space to achieve additional orientations.
@PaulFisher
@PaulFisher 2 жыл бұрын
as I was watching this, I was struck by just how good the animations and sound effects are. even though the swirling effect as the tiles exit the playfield is a bit dated, it’s well-executed, and the “sliding into the hole” sound (not to mention the motion) is perfect.
@Henrix1998

Actually they do include quite many useless tiles. For example stage 6 the lower path final 4 tiles in upside down L shape were not used
@seventeen777

For a puzzle game about blocks, the rusty texture on the player character and the dark red skybox mixed with the empty, sterile, and narrow levels always kinda creeped me out. Looking back, why was the atmospheric design so hostile for such a chill game? The red skybox, the ceramic sounds, the clanging metal, the black-red coloring of the block, and the foreboding background music are all design choices more evocative of a horror title like Silent Hill, than a normal puzzle game.

When I was in middle school, I didn't have my own phone, but some of my friends every now and then let me play on theirs when we were on the bus on our way back home. One of my friends had a clone of Bloxorz, and I decided to play it. I was doing well... And then in the penultimate stage, there was actually one floor tile missing, rendering me unable to beat the game in that bus ride. Damnit. Oh well, I can still beat this game normally anyway, so it's not a big deal, but I feel like I'll never be vindicated about that.

I loved this game as a kid, played it all the time during summer school when I was around 10 to 12 and I had no idea the rectangle turned into two squares until today at 22 years old

it really looks like 3:30 was unoptimized, why wasn't the author controlling both every other frame?
@Spikechive
@Spikechive 2 жыл бұрын
I pointed out in the submission comments that the author has submitted a suboptimal TAS in comparison to the RTA world record, and it got accepted under the reasoning of it not being "enough to reject over".

I remember in middle school we would finish our tests in the computer lab and immediately get on this game to see who could get the farthest before the class ended, which usually gave us like idk 20 minutes max. I dont personally remember getting past level 10... so this was quite the trip to watch xD

i never noticed those ominous sounds in the background due to the loud chatter of our school's computer room. and Man is it unsettling... does this game have some lore?
@davisdf3064
@davisdf3064 3 ай бұрын
I don't think so, i think it's just creepy and unsettling because the creator felt like it. Wich is, honestly, something that i kinda miss from the flash era, a game could be creepy, just because it is. No need for lore.
