Annoyed with the success of the Mario Kart series, a bunch of Rare characters got together and held a racing competition of their own. Along with the availability of several types of vehicles, this game has something of a storyline to it and full completion requires reloading a saved game after the credits run for the first time. More races occur after the initial credit roll, so don't stop watching once the ending plays.

The Brazilian instruction manual says that Banjo put a lot of stuff in his backpack, because he hasn't partnered with Kazooie during the events of the game.

I know this is an old comment, but I was thinking this last night. I've basically replayed the game in about a day (and part of the previous night). Helps to be a skilled adult that knows and understands advanced techniques but this game felt so much longer as a kid. Doesn't help that I got terrified of the Wizpig head slowly completing and that I was too anxious to beat the silver coin challenges outside of Dino Domain and most of Snowflake Mountain. Even as a teen, the DS version too me so much longer to beat though I did 100% that one. tl;dr game wasn't as long as it seemed as a kid.

Crash Team Racing used the same technique. On those old CRT TVs it was really seamless.

Yeah, the N64 couldn’t render round objects in 3D without obvious flat edges. It’s why everything with a circular/ spherical shape in N64 games was a flat texture. Worked pretty well though, and nobody really noticed back in the day.

Still amazing to remember that this was both Banjo's and Conker's first game before they got their own spin-offs (and Banjo, with Kazooie, would get invited to Smash as well) And DKR is such a good game, got a ton of nostalgia with this one Hopefully a newer TAS will happen that demonstrates and optimizes a lot of the glitches though, I know this TAS is super old (2007) and a lot has changed since then - the game's still huge in the speedrun community to this day

Justin Rosinski the normal any% runs start out with the fastest character already unlocked which is used to clip to the final level. A TAS cant really use save files like that so it wouldn't really work.

@@ShinySpinarak part of TASing rules states that you have to start with no save data of any sort, the 'cart' has to be 100% fresh.

Funny enough, this was one of the few keys I found by myself. I had to look up the ones for Snowflake Mountain and Sherbet Island.

This game still feels unfinished.. like, for example, take Spaceport Alpha.. to the right, next ro the finish line, there's an open space which is a perfect hiding spot for a key, or some sort of collectible, and also right at the end after beating wizpig a second time, there's an end-credits scene that cuts off before the game restarts on its own..

@Keezawea There was an interview they did with some of the rareware staff and their final years and this just so happened to have been before they were bought out and then all of a sudden they basically had to change plans on their future projects. I do believe Conker’s bad fur day was the one game that was their last before this happened.

Technically this is Timber’s game, since the game takes place on his parent’s island, but the game had Diddy Kong on its name for marketing reasons. Although one might argue that a separate Timber game would’ve been great because it could allow other places in Timber island or even expand upon the tracks we already know in a facet different than being seen as race track themselves.

He's the second fastest of the default characters but has better handling than Krunch (the fastest). Drumstick and TT are better but unlocking/changing characters loses the time gained.

31:57 funny story.. i played this game when i was 8yo, circa '97, i did not read this part or if i did, i did not know the name of those darned boosters that were on the floor or water or air at strategic points in every race.. and because of that it took me forever to beat the wizpig until i accidentally performed that trick while racing the wizpig 😅

I just keep coming back to satiate my nostalgia.. There was no rubber-banding in this game, thankfully. You either possessed the skill to fully handle this game, or you lagged behind everyone like the npcs here.. except the bosses, they had some sort of skill but once you outrun them, they wont catch up unless you fudge up

It would have been better for the story if Wizpig would have been stuck on that planet, and perhaps it would have been cool if he accidently crashed near an army of Kremlings led by King K. Rool, which chases him all around the planet.

This could be way faster. Krunch is faster than banjo, and TT is fastest of all. And you never skip cinemas.

Some cutscenes can't be skipped, and Krunch's handling is HORRIBLE, so I think Banjo was a better choice (especially since this appeared to be a brand-new save file where TT wasn't unlocked)

Krunch's handling is AWFUL, he's only useful for one race, and there's some cutscenes you can't skip. Plus this looks to be a brand new game where TT wasn't unlocked.
