In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about the story of the Singur Movement in Hooghly district in West Bengal. The Singur Movement started in May 2006 when the CPM government of Bengal announced to give 1000 acres of farmers land to Tata Company. Tata started a Nano car plant in Singur. Local farmers started the Movement after some time Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee joined it. In october 2008 Ratan Tata decided to exit from Singur.

Singur was the final nail in the coffin in the industrialisation of Bengal after 34 years of left ruled destruction on industries. I was in Bengal then doing my engg 3rd year, till before that I had little bit plans of staying in Bengal, post Tata motors withdrawal from Bengal I.made it a point never to return to Bengal for anything. 15 years in industry now and still I maintain the same. Industry, jobs, growth and development in Bengal have died with Tata's withdrawal and I am.pretty sure even in next 50 years whichever govt may come. Bengal and Bengalis will remain poor if they continue to stay in Bengal!

Nikhil amazing journalism as always but do you know that where all other states were not very sure of giving land to Tata on a fear of protest and state government at that time almost 2 decades back were very slow in land allotment, then CM Narendra Modi personally intervene and alloted the land to Tata's in just 3 business days and thus that was a new sun rise for Modi in Gujarat Politics and so called industrlization of Gujarat and it's people, Sanand is a very small village near Ahmedabad more than 25000 jobs were generated.

Have u not warched the video sincerely. Many states including odisha, maharastra also invited tata. But modi succeeded due to to 2 reasons. One of them modi is the capability to manage the media and able to surpress the voice of peoples by means of moneypower of the punjipatis shrewedly. Now u can feel how the media transformed to godimedia. no organoisation whether it may be media, pollution department, ngt, even upto Court(justice loya murder case) are under pressure and bound to obey the orders. Otherwise there is always a threat of torture by means of false case. How ever these condition are suitable for the industrialists and at that time, any one can understand the mental position of ratan tata. 2nd reason is gujarat has s vast lands that are not fortile. 3rd reason gujarati are more professional business race and simultaneously not a very strong background of fight or raiseing voice against establishment

Now imagine the year of 2026. BJP comes into power in Bengal. Few of the EV companies were welcomed to setup plants. Local Bengali population getting direct and indirect jobs due to skilled people pumping in. People from bihar don’t have to go down MH,GJ sor south for jobs, bengal buffers up business opportunity for them. Locals whose farms nearby the plants soon gets contacted by housing giants or else they would be getting cheap loans for construction of PGs and independent 1RKs. I stay 5 kms away from Singur. Maybe I can share some more insights. You missed some important points: - Land was shown in Kharagpur (uncultivable fallow land) before Singur (Country's one of the most fertile land where 3 crops can be grown). However due to some undisclosed undertable deal between Tata and CPM, the Singur land was selected - The deadlock was for 400 acres out of 1000. An alternate 400 acres was shown on the opposite side of the highway. However, the arrogance of the LF Govt did not allow to opt for that land - In 2016 Supreme Court gave the ruling that the Singur land acquisition was illegal and the land has to be returned back to the farmers - Singur agitation was historic in the sense, it made the Govt of India chnage the 1894 land acquisition act and come up with an updated act

CPM was taking the land forcefully without paying compensation, keeping all money to themselves. they did same in New Town also. When I see how Jatts have become rich by selling land or even in other sates, its sad. Bengali farmers were never compensated by CPM instead reign of terror was unleashed. Its sad but the CPM towards the end became completely greedy, blood thirsty and no development at all. Mamata is not great but ask any Marwari, Kolkata definitely looks way better, with flyovers and real estate growth. Tata should not have been kicked out. but corporates in india in general needs to find a creative strategy to enrich and compensate locals. don't depend on musclemen, go directly to the people and present the case for development.
